15.01.2022 How to Feel Safe Right Now... Are you feeling it? The collective Anxiety is palpable. Human beings are extremely perceptive, we were designed this way to avoid danger, its in out DNA to be searching for danger and when we perceive it the part of the brain called the Amygdala triggers the fear response otherwise known as Fight or Flight mode. This is an important part of our biology, in the cave man days it helped us to run from the tiger and in more modern times it war...ns us to avoid things like dark alleys. Its no surprise people are acting a little strangely right now with fear circulating globally due to updates of Covid-19 on the TV, Radio and most social interactions. I too have noticed within myself an underlying anxiety about the uncertainty in the world right now. Whether or not this is a projection of the community or its coming from within the result is still the same - Fight or Flight mode is activated. Just like a smile Fight or Flight is passed on to whomever you come into contact with thanks to the Mirror Neuron function of the brain. Just like a mirror the behaviour we witness others displaying is reflected back onto us as though we ourselves were performing the action. How crazy is that!? I am dedicated to doing my part to shift the energy around the fear cycle and that begins with me and you. So what can you do? 1) Change your thoughts. What you believe becomes your reality so tell yourself I am strong and healthy. Researchers in Japan conducted an experiment on 13 individuals who were extremely allergic to poison ivy. On one arm, each subject was rubbed with a poison ivy leaf and told the leaf was harmless. On the other arm, each subject was rubbed with a harmless leaf and told it was poison ivy. All the subjects developed a rash on the arm where the harmless leaf was rubbed. Of the 13 subjects, 11 did not have any reaction to the real poison ivy leaf. 2) Have Positive Interactions Remember what you used to talk about before Covid-19? Try chatting about those things, I know it can be difficult - Im certainly guilty of chatting at length about it because when we are fearful we just want to discuss it. Try chatting about some other things youre interested in, excited about or uplifted by and play a part in lifting the collective consciousness. 3) Self Care Eat well, move your body, meditate and breath. Take this opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. When faced with challenges get into the habit of asking yourself, whats the lesson? How can I grow from this? 14.01.2022 Clinically diagnosed anxiety is not just about being a bit worried, its when someone cant just "chill out a bit" or "get over it". It eats into their well being, their confidence, their health, their life and its 24/7. When someone cancels, or ducks out, or makes a pathetic excuse please understand that it isnt personal, it isnt laziness, it isnt being rude. Its because they cant physically do it. When someone needs supporting/encouraging/hand holding it isnt patheti...c, it isnt attention seeking, it isnt childish - its because they are desperate to beat it but cant do it alone. Anxiety sucks, being isolated and believing your friends dont care sucks even more . Sometimes people with anxiety have a night out planned, or arranged coffee or a beer with friends but suddenly the 4 walls they inhabit seem the only safe haven because its the only place they dont have to pretend they are ok, so they cancel. Or when they are invited out, they tell you how terribly sorry they are, but theyre already booked up that weekend, when they are actually just really busy holding it together in their safe box. So the first problem starts, all by itself. People stop asking them and the isolation that at first wasnt true becomes their only truth. Please dont give up on your friends. Ring them if they dont reply to a message. They really do want to talk, they just dont know how to say it some days. At work every passing comment is a negative, they constantly do more to get over the feeling they are not good enough. The exhaustion from not sleeping because they panic all night over what they cannot influence means they make mistakes, they live in a fog and its a vicious circle.
