24.01.2022 I’m so very proud of my footpath mural that I’ve adapted it into TEA TOWELS! So if you fancy drying your dishes on a little bit of Ballarat (and my art!) then you can grab yourself one via my website (just hit the shop now button on my FB page) I hope you love them as much as I do! xx

22.01.2022 Exciting news! An important part of the Me and Uoo Uoo project that I have been working hard at for the last few months is that each Uoo Uoo will be sponsored and subsequently adopted to raise important funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital And I have just now found out that my Uoo Uoo has been sponsored by Moonee Valley City Council and Moonee Ponds Traders Association. I’m positively thrilled to bits

20.01.2022 This is me. Mid word. Doing what I do best. Being awkward It tells a story of the video lessons I’m currently pulling together for a little (big!) thing I have been working on day and night for the last few weeks.... Which is essentially art classes IN A BOX! The idea is you get TEN video lessons delivered to your inbox, and everything you need to complete them all in a box, delivered to your door. Most of you will know me as an artist, but I’m also an art TEACHER, and I believe with every fibre of my being that creativity is within us all, and that it is ESSENTIAL to our wellbeing to give it space in our lives. So I’ve designed these lessons to bring PLAY back. To get you thinking outside the box (pun intended ) and reconnect with your creative instincts. In them I will teach you some nifty skills, take ALL the pressure off producing perfection and get you immersed in the FUN of the process. Because that is where the MAGIC is at The lessons are deliberately open ended, so they are suitable for adults AND children. It really just depends how far YOU want to stretch your art muscles! They are perfect for... Carving out some time for yourself each week to nurture your creative soul. For reigniting the creative spark that may have been pushed down to the bottom of your priority list. For connecting with your child through shared art making time. As an extra curricula activity for kids who are keen to shake up their remote learning routine. Or as a way of reconnecting via FaceTime with a face you are missing dearly so you can do the lessons together! BOXFUL OF ART will be available super soon, so keep your eyes PEELED! Much love, Emily xx

20.01.2022 I’ve been waiting on a very special arrival for a little while now, and today was finally delivery day. Which means I can now tell you all about it! I have been chosen as one of the artists to reimagine a Uoo Uoo for the Royal Children’s Hospital’s 150th Anniversary Art Trail and I am BEYOND thrilled! My squishy little friend is now hanging out at my house and I can’t WAIT to show you as he evolves into an entirely magical creature!

19.01.2022 Thanks Pauline O'Shannessy-Dowling Artist! xxx

18.01.2022 I’ve been a BUSY bee this week. I’ve been designing and trialling and sourcing and planning and having ALL the ideas at ALL hours of the day and night. It’s a NEW thing. It’s a FUN thing. It’s a boxful of art supplies and lessons you can do at home.... Art lessons that take the pressure off and give you permission to PLAY. Because being creative is SO important to our wellbeing (and isn’t that a hot topic in 2020 ). They will be suitable for (almost) ALL ages and are the perfect thing to do by yourself in a quiet moment, with your child as a way to connect, or with that friend you are missing dearly via Zoom. I’m ONLY going to release 10 packs in this first round, so jump over to my website and sign up to my mailing list if you want first dibs as soon as they are ready to go. And if you’ve got any questions? Just ask xx

18.01.2022 Boxful of Art has officially ARRIVED What IS it?? I’ve designed and recorded TEN super fun art lessons (I’m a teacher as well as an artist!) and sourced all the supplies you’ll need to do them.... The lessons are very accessible, open ended and they all include a healthy dose of PLAY! WHY? Creativity is a human thing. We are all creative (true story!). But we often push it to the bottom of the to-do list in favour of more serious responsibilities. But we shouldn’t, because it’s super important for our wellbeing to give it space in our lives and flex those creative muscles! These lessons are all about providing those opportunities and they’re suitable for (almost!) ALL ages! Boxfuls are available in limited numbers, so if you fancy one, hit up the SHOP NOW button in my profile, where you’ll find them on my website. Much love, Emily xx

15.01.2022 I know lots of you are feeling the pain of this seemingly endless lockdown situation we’ve got going on in Victoria. So I’ve decided to throw FREE POSTAGE in with the last few Boxfuls of Art. Keep going little engines! You can make it! xx

15.01.2022 I think nearly all of us has a musician or artist whose work resonates, consoles and narrates our lives. For me it’s Ben. From adolescence to pandemic his music has anchored me. And when he says things like this?! That NAIL exactly what it feels like for ME as an ARTIST?... I adore him even more. I see the role of an artist as someone who sees flickers that nobody else does and has the willpower to bottle them in order to share that with everyone else.

14.01.2022 Thought I’d treat you all to a little progress update on my UooUoo as he gets glammed up for the RCH 150th Anniversary Art Trail. Every day this week, he and I have spent some time together chatting about what he’d like me to add to his coat next, then I add it and show him his reflection in the mirror. He seems happy with it so far. It’s a pretty sweet working arrangement.

13.01.2022 When the weather turns and I can’t BE in the garden, I paint it instead. Hooray for flowers amiright?!

13.01.2022 Here’s me bringing some silly to the socials if you’re not on Instagram. Hope it brings a smile to your dial I’ve got a couple of tea towels left from the first batch ready to post if you haven’t grabbed yours yet. AND more fabric on order!... Thank you for being so quick to snap up the first lot hot off the Janome! You lot are THE BEST xx

10.01.2022 Earlier this year I was super lucky to be one of the artists chosen to reimagine one of these guys for The Royal Children’s Hospital 150th anniversary. The plan was to launch into the wild this year. Instead (due to COVID) they are hanging in a warehouse in their COVID bubble, having the biggest UooUoo party you ever did see, getting themselves pumped for a January launch instead. And just LOOK at them. They’re SO ready to be adored by the public.... Gorgeous things! See more

10.01.2022 Are you on Instagram? I’ve been running a little comp over there to celebrate the current series I’m working on, and ONE lucky duck is going to win this artwork TONIGHT! You should totally pop over to my Insta (@emilyvandermolen) and enter xx

07.01.2022 It’s a wild ride for me as an artist, full of twists and turns and often car sickness as I lurch from one idea to another, to another, to another endlessly. I can be heading down a path quite happily when someone in the backseat suddenly shouts TURN LEFT! So I do. And head off down a different garden path for a bit. Quite literally this time.... I went outside yesterday and picked a bunch of flowers and decided I wanted to draw them. So I did. These are the drawings that came out of that tangent. Which one’s your fave?

07.01.2022 Have you seen my shiny new website? All sales over the next little while will go towards my #artistsupportpledge, an initiative which aims to share the love during difficult times financially for many artists. Once I reach 2k in sales, I pledge to buy the work of other artists to the value of $400. It feels like a meaningful and useful thing to do right now. And if you are in a position to invest in art, now is a brilliant time to do it xx

05.01.2022 The work of artists can often seem a bit mysterious or magical. And in some ways, it kind of is. The essence of my work comes from the very core of my being and can only be tapped into when I switch my brain off and trust my instincts.... I pump the music up LOUD, dance and sing to drown out my noisy brain, then somehow from the depths comes the message I need to communicate. But at the same time, NONE of it would work if I hadn’t spent a lifetime honing my skills obsessively through education, repetition, hyper focus and sheer frustration. This article is a a really great insight into the artists process, specifically around knowing when a work is finished, which for me is the trickiest part! And for my fellow creatives, when do you know a work is ready to go into the world?

05.01.2022 I’ve started this series of teeny tiny technicolour works and I’m in that sweet spot where I can’t stop thinking about them. I wake up seeing them and fall asleep with colours dancing behind my eyelids. And nothing else is getting done. Like nothing. You should see the pile of washing waiting to be folded ... #worthit See more

04.01.2022 My garden. It’s my solace. My muse. My subject matter. It paces me.... Keeps me grounded. Anchors me in the seasons and gets my brain out of endless anxiety loops. It really is the shizz. Are you a gardener? TELL me about your plants. I really DO want to hear...! . . . . . . . . . . #artistgardener #mygardenismymuse #plantlady #autumnalvibes #theballaratlife #ballarad #ballaratartist #thepursuitofjoy #toplantagardenistobelieveintomorrow See more

04.01.2022 In this current alternate universe we are all living in, it’s hard to believe that school holidays start at the end of NEXT WEEK True story. And after all that remote learning strain, a Boxful of Art would make a FAB reward don’t you think? Either for the missing school desperately child (who knew that was even possibly right?!) or the worn down, over it parent (hi that’s me) in the house.... There are literally only a couple left and I reckon if you order ASAP, then I trip down to the Post Office ASAP you might just get yours before hols start

04.01.2022 I draw what I’m drawn to. At the moment that’s the vegies I panic planted at the beginning of the pandemic. What apocalyptic life skills have you discovered this year?

04.01.2022 I’m doing a spot of research. And I was hoping you might be so kind as to send your thoughts my way. I have this idea...... To offer some at-home art classes for all ages, complete with a grouse stash of art supplies and a weekly dose of ME via your inbox to show you how to have some arty fun. They’d be all about... PLAY over PRESSURE. PROCESS over PROUDUCT. And FUN over PERFECTION. Because I reckon art has the power to take us somewhere else for a bit, and to help us process all the weird awfulness the world is dishing up to us lately. #adultsjustaddwine #andzoomchatyourfriendsandgetartytogether #happymailisthebestmail

04.01.2022 VOTING TIME! The opportunity to be part of a DREAM collab with Gorman came up recently, so I magicked this work into reality and submitted it along with lots of other wonderful artists. I would LOVE it if you could throw a vote my way by clicking here and scrolling under the letter V until you find me... https://www.gormanshop.com.au/artcomp?letter=v... Can you even IMAGINE how BRILLIANT it would be to WEAR this piece?
