22.01.2022 R E S P O N S I B L E T R A V E L Sound On This morning we had a very special visit to The Elephant Transit Home, which is a dedicated rehabilitation and information centre designed to create awareness and share vital information on elephants.... The ETH was founded in 1995 in order to provide protection and rehab for orphaned or abandoned elephant calves. It is home to just over 50 rescued elephants aged between just 2 weeks and 5 years old. These elephants who are not yet able to survive in the wild are given special care by a team dedicated to their welfare. The transit home ensures that all elephants are returned to the forests when they are old enough to care for themselves and as such are raised with minimal human contact and interaction. A must visit for anyone planning on travelling to Sri Lanka and a massive win for responsible tourism and travel. Can recommend. #responsibletourism #responsibletravel
22.01.2022 The Fisherman's Trail - Probably one of the best coastal trails in the world. Have you ever done something in your life, so that when you close your eyes at night, it is what appears to you, not just for one night, but every night. You wish you were back there, doing what you were doing, that thing made you feel so happy? I have this problem at the moment.....Continue reading
20.01.2022 Back-Roads Portugal. The first half.... We have all been thoroughly enjoying everything about Portugal. Discovering new food and wine has been a highlight for many. Our guide Kriztie, is a wealth of knowledge and gives you an understand of what makes Portugal tick. Highlights are coming thick and fast, so I'll just pop a few pictures here so you can follow a part of our journey.
20.01.2022 Another resident home, only about 45,000 more to go... it was a pleasure Victoria Harrower
19.01.2022 Responsible tourism starts with you.
16.01.2022 Getting #strandedaussies home has been nothing but an honour.
15.01.2022 To all of my valued clients and friends, I'm still here, and not going anywhere! As you are all aware, the travel industry is pretty much on hold at the moment. If you are currently waiting for a refund, I am slowly receiving amounts here and there and will advise you once all of your amounts are in. All have been chased, but I am in the hands of the suppliers who are dealing with thousands upon thousands of refunds. I thank you deeply for your patience. ... In the meantime, lets dream of where we can travel to next, each day is a step closer to exploring the world. "A mind that is stretched by new experiences can never go back to its old dimensions" I'll leave you with a photo of were I dream to head to next, once I can, to complete my walk on the Fishermen's Trail in SW Portugal from Odeceixe to Lagos, 140kms over 8 or more days... more sounding the better way... Where will you travel to next? Emma x
14.01.2022 Fact.. anyone else??
13.01.2022 Massive shout out to all of my wonderful clients during this absolutely unprecedented s**t-storm. Your patience, understanding and caring has not gone unnoticed. We are essentially all in this together, I am trying to do the best for you in a situation I have never experienced in my many, many years of being a travel agent and you have all been absolutely amazing! I know I don't have all the answers and navigating airline policies is taxing but bear with me, this isn't over... and it won't be for a while I think. When it is all over, I know that Australians are a resilient bunch, and we will be back on those planes to continue to discover this amazing world we live in, make connections, have experiences and make memories for life. In the meantime, let's all look after each other, don't panic buy, wash your hands and keep that social distancing, the more careful we all are, the sooner we can get back to doing what we love... exploring... Pics taken back in the 'good old days..' 2019.
13.01.2022 So happy to help stranded Australians get home.
13.01.2022 Hi Fly, a Portuguese wet leasing airline, has operated the first single-use plastic free flights in the world. Here's hoping the major players follow on. It's not hard to start making small changes to reduce the amount of passenger waste on each flight. I was shocked by the amount of plastic cups and bottles used on board my recent Qatar Airways flights. How do we find a solution to this? Qatar Airways
12.01.2022 Postcards of our time. What do you think?
12.01.2022 Where will you go when this is all over?
11.01.2022 Soooo, now that Victoria is all but closed off to the rest of Australia and the world, I guess we just sit back and wait patiently, very patiently, until maybe one day we can travel again. Thank you again to all of my clients who have been very patient over these past few months, whilst I have been juggling jobs. In the meantime, grab a cold beer and lets dream of where we can go again one day. I'll be here and waiting for you.... Emma x
10.01.2022 S R I L A N K A .. R E F L E C T I O N S Apologies for my lack of posts, the rest of our time in Sri Lanka was hectic to say the least, I've now had time to reflect and process my thoughts. Grab a cup of tea (preferably a good black Ceylon tea...) and kick back. After Kandalama, we drove through the Central Province down to Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and last royal capital of Sri Lankan kings. We stopped via a Spice Plantation where we were able to see spices in t...Continue reading

I am experiencing Portugal with Back-Roads Touring for about 10 days, followed by a couple of weeks exploring Portugal as a solo traveller after falling in love with the country after a brief visit last year. I will have my laptop & mobile with me as I go, and will be best contacted by email or WhatsApp With the time difference and a busy itinerary, I hope to reply to you ...within 24 hours. I will post updates when I can for those interested in visiting arguably the best country in Europe.
08.01.2022 Just here and waiting for the green light..
07.01.2022 Happy Easter to all of my wonderful clients and friends. Enjoy a few bevs, good food and quality time with family (well, family in your immediate household!). Travel will come back again, in the meantime, enjoy this little clip. #stayhome Xxx
06.01.2022 Back-Roads Portugal The second half.. apologies for my delay.. Things just only keep on getting better in Portugal with Back-Road Touring. Colder temperatures greeted us in Viseu, out hotel located right in the centre of the old town. ... After Viseu, we travelled into the spectacular Douro Valley via Lamego, where we stopped for long-lunch and I got to practice a little of my bad Portuguese in helping to decipher the menu for my fellow travellers. We were greeted in the Douro Valley with clear skies and an abundance of autumnal colours on the rows and rows of terraced grape vines. Quinta Nova provided us with a stunning meal and the next day we had a short boat ride from Pinhao along the Douro River. Quinta Nova was quite expensive to eat at, so we all went to the local supermarket and stocked up for a picnic style dinner on the terrace. It was chilly, but no one minded as we ate local cheese, presunto (ham) and the tastiest cherry tomatoes ever, all washed down with the vineyard's wine. Another late start (this is Portugal afterall) had us travelling to Braga, further in the north. We stopped by a winery and garden that produced the regional Vinho Verde, or Green Wine, which is a younger style white wine and very refreshing. The gardens were stunning and not many of us wanted to leave. Onto Guimaraes, where we looked around the castle and again partook in a long lunch with wine. Our accommodation in the centre of Braga was dated from the 1500's and was breathtaking in it's beauty. A few of us indulged in a little retail therapy followed by another delicious meal and perfmoramce from a local folk group that encouraged a little audience participation! All good things must come to an end, and our travels through Portugal ended in what I beleive to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Porto, but not before a tour of Ferreira port wine cellars and of course a tasting. What a way to end! All in all, would I recommend Back-Roads Touring? Absolutely. The smaller group size, the smaller vehicles, which allow you to travel the actual back roads, wind through villages and see sights that you cannot see from a large bus on a motorway. Later starts in Europe mean later nights, which although is not what we tend to do in Australia, is the norm here. There is plenty of free time to make your own discoveries in each town, sit and have a long lunch, or get your walk on and see as much as you can in the time you have. All this combined with the secutiry of travelling in a group, the outstanding knowledge of our tour leader Krizstie, who gave us an insight into Portugal and the way of life here that you cannot get on your own, was invaluable and in many ways, priceless. Do yourself a favour and give them a go. You won't regret it. Contact me to look into options for your next holiday. I'll be home soonish, I promise....
06.01.2022 I actually got a lovely hug from one of my very special clients the other day. It was wonderful. I want to acknowledge and thank everyone who has contacted me to ask questions about their upcoming trips. As you know, I’m always here for support. With each passing day, there are new developments related to this worldwide outbreak, and not knowing what is next is leading many of us to act a little more cautiously than usual.... I truly believe that it is important to not let fear dictate our lives, but we need to be resilient and educated. My top priority is, and always will be, the safety of my clients. I remain optimistic about the future as I'm sure you all are too. As we receive information, we are relaying it to you immediately, however, given how quickly this situation is developing and fluctuating, there is no one answer we can give. This is why it’s important that you trust us to distribute information that may affect your travel plans as it’s made available to us. While this current outbreak is concerning, the world is far too beautiful to be left unexplored, and life is meant to be spent well travelled. I for one am not cancelling an upcoming trip to Europe. Thank you for being such great travellers, supporters and friends, and being patient with my industry as we navigate through this. I am always available for any questions or support, or to simply talk through your concerns. I continue to have faith in tourism, my colleagues, fellow travel agents, suppliers, and the industry as a whole and have been humbled how we have all come together in unity for the good of our mutual clients. We are all committed to seeing this through with you. Together we will be successful in persevering through these trying times. Thank you for your trust in me. Emma x
