24.01.2022 I M M U N I T Y : Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin that has an important role in enhancing immune function and has an ability to help fight against infection, including respiratory tract infections. If you're often sick and fighting the flu or colds, vitamin D deficiency could be a contributing factor. . Deficiency is very common and can play a role in autoimmune diseases. With evidence highlighting that vitamin D can affect the gut microbiome and can re...gulate gastrointestinal inflammation and immunity, it may be time to think about what your vitamin D levels might be. . If supplementing, for optimum absorption: take with a meal that includes healthy fats, such as avocado. Dosage can widely vary due to severity of deficiency and health conditions. Therefore, it is best to refer to a health professional, such as a naturopath, nutritionist or GP who can test your vitamin D levels to determine if supplementation is appropriate and to adjust the dose specifically and safely for you. . Some people are more susceptible to vitamin D deficiency, such as older people, those with darker skin and times of increased growth periods, such as pregnancy. . Spending time out in the sun is the best way to get your daily dose of vitamin D. 10-15 minutes unprotected daily exposure to arms, legs, abdomen or back 2-3 times a week will suffice. Don’t over-do it and ensure sun protection afterwards to prevent sunburn. . Dietary sources of vitamin D include UV-grown mushrooms, eggs and fatty fish including salmon and mackerel. . Vitamin D has an important role in for many systems in the body, including maintaining calcium and phosphorus levels, bone health, foetal development, normal neuromuscular function, hormones, immunity, gut and brain health. Consider checking your vitamin D levels if you're experiencing recurrent infections and lowered immunity, fatigue, low bone mineral density, depression, muscle and back pain, autoimmunity, psoriasis. . If you'd like more immunity advice: book in a consult with me and we can get you on your way to a healthy you! See more

21.01.2022 Some easy iso tips to grow some fresh veggies from your scraps

19.01.2022 Was just shown this old photo of me in my youth, which as far as I’m concerned, looks like I’m living my best life. Just reading a bit of Harry with a ‘touch’ of lippy on . I have no clue what the deal is here, other than I look like I’m doing my best impression of the joker, but just made me realise with setting up my own business requires a lot of down time on the computer at home that I often resort to the comfort of the faithful trackies.. so in some weird way this phot...o has inspired me to make an effort, brush my hair & put on something decent - but I have resisted applying such bold makeup.... . . . . . . . . . #naturopath #naturopathy #naturalhealth #southernhighlandsnaturopath #bowralnaturopath #onlinenaturopath #healthandwellbeing #nutrition #herbalmedicine #makeupgoals See more

18.01.2022 Are you taking probiotics and trying to improve your gut health? Let me tell you about PREbiotics: Prebiotics are substances that healthy bacteria feed off to grow So, if you’re taking probiotics but have a low fibre/prebiotic diet, chances are the probiotic bacteria do not have enough sources to feed off to flourish and do their thing.... Prebiotics are a type of fibre* that act as a fertiliser for the good bacteria in your gut, which passes through the gastrointestinal tract undigested to be fermented in the colon and then feeds/stimulates the beneficial bacteria colonies. I’m a believer in using food as medicine and creating the right foundation for your body to thrive and only recommend supplementation when necessary - which probiotic supplementation can be a lot of the time. However, if we aren’t creating the right environment for probiotics to be utilised, then it could be a missed opportunity to stimulate healthy bacteria and consequently your digestive health, nervous system, cardiovascular & metabolic health and immunity (to name a few of the many benefits of healthy gut bacteria). When taking probiotics (and in general), get more bang for your buck and health by eating more high prebiotic foods including garlic, onion, banana, asparagus, leeks, chives, legumes, oats, globe artichokes, chicory root, peas, flaxseeds and apples. *Types of prebiotic fibre: inulin, lactulose, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), and galactooligosaccharides (GOS) #healthypooshealthymood #prebiotics #guthealth #probiotics #foodasmedicine #digestivehealth #gutbacteria #naturopath #naturopathy #onlinenaturopath #bowralnaturopath #southernhighlandsnaturopath #herbalmedicine #naturalhealth #nutrition #healthandwellbeing

10.01.2022 My parents house at the end on the right. Was a close call and this was just the beginning apparently with the intensity. Glad everyone is ok and the house was saved, thanks to the help of brave neighbours and the RFS. It happened so quick and was ongoing through the night. And now we’ve had to leave where we are after a sleepless night and we’re thinking of everyone in Bundanoon. Stay safe out there - scary times. #australiaburns #berrara #australiafires #RFSsavinglives

10.01.2022 #ruok ? Remember to reach out, check in and listen to those who need it - and not just today, follow up. Mental health can be hard to talk about and acknowledging how you feel out loud is a really hard step for those suffering - yet everyone has been touched by it in someway, whether personally or with a loved one... and it bloody sucks. Getting out of bed, showering and having a regular routine can be hard to maintain in the bleak times - have you noticed a friend, colleague..., family member withdraw from life? Reach out. It may seem impossible for things to get better, but trusting the signs, keeping an open dialogue and getting the right help/mental healthcare team are important steps to moving through it. I’m here if anyone needs to have a chat, I’ve been there in the past and talking about it felt so difficult that I thought lifting a car with my bare hands would have been easier. But those close noticed that I had withdrawn and wasn’t ok. And they didn’t take no for an answer. And holy shit - finally voicing how I was feeling (or wasn’t feeling) was the biggest relief and first step. And with each day, getting out of bed got easier. And 10 years on I can look back on that time and see how far I’ve come and I’m so glad I never gave up #mentalhealth #reachout #depressionsucks #anxietyisalsoshit #suicideawareness #ruokday . . . . . . . . . . . . #naturopath #naturalhealth #naturalhealing #naturopath #bowralnaturopath #southernhighlandsnaturopath #onlinenaturopath Pinterest

09.01.2022 I tend towards being a creature of habit but this morning I made some time to do something different. I’m by no means a yoga fanatic (aka I am the most unco person ever) and can find myself disengage/bored when I’ve tried it in the past (I enjoy resistance training & cardio much much more).. But being a part of a new community, especially rurally, can sometimes feel isolating (especially with some days working from home). So when someone asked me to join in the little villa...ge yoga session this morning I thought why not? after being cooped up this weekend with work/extensive rain / epic blackouts... And I loved it! It was so good to start my morning stretching after being stagnant indoors, meeting lots of new people, having a stroll & cuppa afterwards with everyone - it made me feel so refreshed and energised It got me thinking of how revitalising it is to explore & try new things! To break old tired habits... So if you’re thinking to break up the routine, feeling stale/unmotivated or want to try something new after the weird summer we’ve had, why not try it today? What are some of your ideas? (So I can use them to keep this feeling up ) See more
