25.01.2022 A large part of our job as defence lawyers is to achieve the best possible outcome via negotiated plea deals for clients. As reported in the Herald Sun, Emma Turnbull has conduct of the defence for Mr Harvey who is charged and willing to plead guilty to culpable driving causing death. After the prosecution's initial unwillingness to limit the peripheral charges, Emma agitated those difficulties in open court. This achieved a deal being reached that was more favourable for the client. He will be sentenced later this year. https://www.heraldsun.com.au//4dd1bca76aea230ad05530e9887c
25.01.2022 Experience makes the difference.... Back in 2013, Emma represented a client De Jun "Kevin" Zheng who was charged with murder. In one of the first cases to progress to the Court of Appeal on an interlocutory appeal, Kevin was ultimately found not guilty and was released from custody. The firm has always maintained a strong practice in jury trials. We know the process, the practice and can assist you to best navigate your way through the Court system. ... https://www.theage.com.au//brothel-worker-cleared-over-kil

23.01.2022 Success in the Court of Appeal today on behalf of a young client. The judgement is important in that it considers the application of the young offender principles to cases where minors are sentenced in the County Court. http://classic.austlii.edu.au//cases/vic/VSCA/2018/333.html
23.01.2022 The County and Supreme Courts have suspended all new jury trials from commencing as of Monday 16 March 2020. How the Courts will ultimately react in their attempt to minimise the spread of Corona virus is not yet known. We will be working closely with our clients who are affected by the suspension of trials, in particular our large clientele on remand. At this stage the Magistrates Court listings are unchanged. We again intend to prioritise our clients in custody who need ...matters finalised as soon as possible and/or listing bail applications where appropriate.
