25.01.2022 What we build today, we live with long into the future. Our plans for Molonglo Valley's new commercial centre to be powered by renewable electricity, not fossil fuel gas, means the community will have a sustainable, comfortable shopping centre for many decades to come.

25.01.2022 Feeling like this election campaign is way too busy, so I put my feet up for half an hour and got snacks. Giving blood is a very restful way to give to the community! #lifeblood #redcross

23.01.2022 The ACT Greens have announced plans to transition over time to a clean, green all-electric Canberra, with the goal of making the ACT ‘fossil fuel gas free’ by 2040. So-called ‘natural’ gas is a polluting fossil fuel and contributes 22% of the ACT’s total greenhouse gas emissions. At a time of climate emergency, we must transition away from gas and get to zero net emissions or we will face the catastrophic consequences of irreversible global warming. The Greens have a plan to ...put our climate first, today announcing a series of climate action commitments, including: A $20 million financial support program to assist businesses and residents who have existing gas connections to transition to efficient electric appliances. Ruling out greenfield gas connections in new suburbs from 2021. An intensive 2 year transition program working with industry and the community to end new infill gas connections from 2023, including an all-electric Molonglo commercial centre. New support for community scale battery storage and microgrids. Delivering a 10 year pathway to shift to world’s best practice on climate-ready and environmentally-sustainable buildings and planning. 22.01.2022 Cold but sunny at Cooleman Court this morning, had some good conversations about affordable housing, mental health, and protecting Cooleman Park.

22.01.2022 @the_riotact’s latest poll shows the will of the community very strongly. Over 80% of Canberrans* think roadside signs on public land are infuriating rubbish. The Greens have taken a stand this election and said we won’t use them.... Instead we rely on our supporters to host yard signs on their own property, and for the community to find our information online greens.org.au/act/better-normal Because we believe in working with the community to Build a #BetterNormal *As at noon 28 September 2020. 21.01.2022 Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and day one of #16Days of Activism. Eliminating violence against women requires action in prevention and early intervention, as well as crisis and recovery. It means transformational change in how we think about gendered roles in society, and how we behave. And that means all of us working together. I’m committed to continuing the work. Find out how you can be part of the change https://medium.com/.../take-action-10-ways-you-can-help-end-v #orangetheworld

20.01.2022 Thanks for having us to visit today, Weston! I can highly recommend Fetherston Gardens as a good place to meet friends, especially with @carolinelecouteur to tell us a bit of history about how the Gardens came to be.

20.01.2022 What a great way to learn some local history, and about how to make one of the most useful things in our household cleaning & first aid cupboard: eucalyptus oil.

20.01.2022 It's voting season! Polls are open for early voting, so if you'd like to avoid the crowds on 17 October, you can vote now. And just so you know, this is the only how-to-vote flyer the Greens are distributing in Murrumbidgee. Having all three of our smiling faces on it makes me so happy, because working together is the only way we can really build a #BetterNormal

20.01.2022 Loving the sunny weather while talking to voters at the Farmers Market this morning. Also highly recommend the danishes. @ Southside Farmers Market

19.01.2022 Arts and culture events are a big part of our community. But it’s not a community unless we can all participate. This is why I am so happy to see the work Ruth O’Brien and others are doing to support greater representation and accessibility for people with disabilities.

19.01.2022 The world has changed. We don't want to go back to normal with all the economic problems and inequality that went with it. Let's build a #BetterNormal Building more social and community housing, free early childhood education for our 3 year olds, proper funding for community services, more options for walking and cycling and public transport, and taking care of each other and our environment.... greens.org.au/act/better-normal

19.01.2022 On Friday, I visited a newly built mental health supported accommodation property to see first-hand what these new homes will provide for the people who will soon begin moving in. Four properties have now been built with funding provided by the ACT Government to offer a brand new home for up to 15 Canberrans. The mental health supported accommodation homes each provide four bedrooms and a space for a live-in support person to assist with individual living for the residents. ...The residents are carefully selected to live in and belong to a community, with a support pathway to assist them in recovery. 18.01.2022 Adolescence is a crucial period of life for building good mental health, resilience and problem solving skills. The ACT Greens have announced an $11.6 million child and youth mental health package. Providing services and support for this cohort must be a priority, particularly given the significant impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on young people.... Key features of this package include a new ACT psychologist subsidy scheme and more support for children, young people, parents and families. 17.01.2022 Celebrating new skills at the Girls on Bikes ACT graduation today. Women of all ages from migrant or refugee backgrounds have been learning to ride with help from volunteers. One of the things they all appreciate is learning in a supportive environment. #cycling #bikes

16.01.2022 Looking forward to a good discussion focused on the needs of people in our community whose voices are not heard enough in planning policies and programs. Thank you ACTCOSS - ACT Council of Social Service Inc. for advocating for a more liveable city for everyone.

15.01.2022 Canberra has a bit of a gas problem! But no need to see a doctor; the Greens have the prescription to help us reach a clean, green gas-free future. Fossil-fuel gas contributes 22% of the ACT's greenhouse gas emissions, and is increasingly sourced from coal seam gas fracking.... We need to get off gas, and the ACT Greens have a plan to make it happen. While gas was used as a transition fuel over the past decade, now is the time to responsibly, but fairly rapidly, phase it out. With 100% renewable electricity now in the ACT we're in a great position to achieve this by 2040 - and the Greens have a sensible plan to get it underway. We need to stop building new buildings with gas connections: instead they can be all-electric and zero emissions, using solar, batteries, and smart designing. We also need to transition existing gas use over to electric alternatives. Our initiative contains a $20M fund to start helping residents and businesses make the switch to efficient electric alternatives as their gas appliances reach their end of life. Not only will this help tackle climate change, it will save on energy costs, and it will establish the ACT as the national leader in zero-emissions building and development. That's the kind of green industry we want in Canberra as we Build a Better Normal! Read more greens.org.au/act/get-off-gas #BetterNormal

14.01.2022 I’ve been out most mornings with the Murrumbidgee sign-wobblers - the Murrumbobblers - and it’s a lot more fun with earphones in. What should I add to my playlist? https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4speGY9eypVf1cleP8h6bR

14.01.2022 Climate change is the biggest threat we face, yet some groups will be hit harder than others. As renewable electricity becomes more affordable, renters and people on low incomes who can’t afford to transition to electricity are stuck paying more for polluting, outdated gas technology. This means that wealthier Canberrans typically pay less to heat their homes with clean energy and good insulation than people on lower incomes.... The burning of fossil fuel gas to heat and cool our buildings contributes more than 20% of the ACT’s carbon footprint. In Australia gas is increasingly extracted by coal seam gas fracking which causes huge environmental and health impacts. Check out our package https://greens.org.au/act/just-transition

13.01.2022 The Greens are proud that the ACT remains the first Australian jurisdiction to have banned the cruel and outdated greyhound racing industry, with the last race occurring on 29 April 2018. The Greens committed to a ban on greyhound racing at the 2016 election. Our Parliamentary Agreement with Labor played a key part in ending the $1 million annual taxpayer subsidy to the greyhound industry in Canberra, and an end to the industry in the ACT altogether. 12.01.2022 The ACT Greens have again committed to world-class climate action efforts, cheaper energy bills and more clean energy jobs, with a pledge to ensure the new Molonglo Commercial Centre becomes Australia’s first all-electric commercial district. We have pledged that the area will be powered entirely by 100% clean, green renewable electricity; rather than gas, a polluting, planet-warming fossil fuel, which currently contributes 23% of the ACT's greenhouse gas emissions. We are pl...eased that the new Canberra Hospital Expansion will be all-electric, as well as the Woden CIT - now it’s time for an all-electric commercial centre. By creating Australia’s first all-electric major commercial centre, the Greens are delivering world-class climate action - taking the urgent steps we need to tackle the climate crisis. 10.01.2022 The Greens know that it’s time to end the disproportionate incarceration rate of First Nations People, and we’re setting a target of doing this in the ACT by 2030. The Greens are taking the smarter approach to the criminal justice system, accelerating our nation-leading Justice Reinvestment commitments with a $20 million package for the next four years. Justice Reinvestment is a community-focussed, evidence-led approach that shifts funds away from building bigger prisons and... instead invests in vulnerable communities to address underlying causes of crime and keep our community safer, over the long term. Our Justice Reinvestment programs will work to bring Indigenous incarceration rates in line with non-Indigenous incarceration rates by 2030. You can read our full package here greens.org.au/act/building-safer-communities #BetterNormal

07.01.2022 Attention Canberra businesses: Our ACT Greens election initiatives will really get you electrified! Our recently announced electric vehicle initiative includes a $10M fund for grants to Canberra businesses to help you purchase electric vans, electric utes or other electric commercial vehicles. These grants can also assist to install charging infrastructure. Electric vans are already in Australia, and electric utes are coming fast. They’re quieter, cheaper to run, and ...of course, they create zero emissions when charged using the ACT 100% renewable electricity. By reducing the upfront costs, businesses can then enjoy the cheaper operating costs over the long term. And at the same time, it helps Canberra transition away from one of our biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions - petrol vehicles. Win-Win! 06.01.2022 We have released a major plan to overhaul Canberra’s planning system, to put people before property developers. Planning must deliver world-class buildings that are climate-ready, sustainable, well-designed and constructed, and serve our city’s needs over coming decades. Our plan will:... Set a 10 year pathway for international best practice on climate-ready and environmentally-sustainable buildings Change the law so that major sites are sold for high-quality proposals, not just to the highest bidder Provide a new Skills, Apprenticeships and Research-Industry Partnerships Fund to shift to world’s best practice on climate-ready and environmentally-sustainable buildings Return building certification of big residential developments to Government hands Change the Tree Protection Act and planning system to protect our mature trees and make room for trees during development Reform the planning system to insist on better quality development Better fund the heritage system so it can protect the things we love about Canberra. 01.01.2022 Hey Murrumbidgee friends, come down to Cooleman Court before 12pm today to pick up your letterboxing pack and t-shirt! I’m listening to some excellent guitar playing from a young busker while I talk to voters.

01.01.2022 The people of Coombs deserve more amenity around their homes. 30 houses are in the plan for the Coombs Peninsula instead of leaving it as open space. The Greens are committed to preserving this important piece of Coombs.... What happens on it will impact directly on the Molonglo River Reserve. The Peninsula should be permanently withdrawn from the land release program and reserved to provide more protection to the threatened species in the River Reserve. Read what we have to say greens.org.au/act/news/coombs-peninsula-development
