22.01.2022 Happy to say we are now have limited appointment spots available on saturdays! We see NDIS, Medicare and private clients. I have a lot children coming who struggle with frustration or anxiety, causing behavioural outbursts that trouble teachers and parents. We also help children who struggle with daily activities of self care such as Toileting, sleeping, washing, eating, getting dressed and doing school work. The struggles can be due to physical weakness, motor planning issues or executive function difficulties. Its really rewarding seeing children and parents feel better about their lives and their relationships as therapy progresses and we see results!

22.01.2022 Really interesting results from a study on the benefits of certain vitamin supplements for children with ASD. There is more and more evidence pointing to bipolar, asd, schizophrenia and other disorders as problems with the intestinal system. https://nourishinghope.com/autism-symptoms-improve-with-be/

19.01.2022 As we start thinking of going back to school, below is a link to some handy organisational ideas and a free printable. I would add some OT specific ideas: 1. Using a luggage tag on your childs bag for them to check they have put their water bottle, homework, sports clothes and lunchbox in. 2. Using timers and rewards to minimise verbal reminders (ie parents yelling) 3. Tie a morning chart to a reward. If they can come and show you they have ticked off their (laminated)list... by 8am, then they can have iPad time in the car, etc. After all, they have saved you both a lot of stress! https://www.stuffmumslike.com/kids-morning-routine-checkli/ See more

19.01.2022 Interesting take on the root causes of eating difficulties in kids with ASD or SPD- is it sensory or is it breathing problems?

19.01.2022 A great illustration of theoccupation in occupational therapists.

15.01.2022 Excited to announce Full Life OT has been partening with childcares, kindys and schools in the Redlands to provide free staff education sessions on OT - related student difficulties. Topics covered in the information session cover how to recognise and help children who present with sensory processing difficulties/ attention issues/ aggression/ anxiety/ADHD/ASD/learning difficulties. If your child sees me, you can ask for me to go into their kindy or childcare (at the centres request) and talk to staff about how to help your child or children like them. If you work at a childcare, kindy or school and you are struggling with student difficulties described above, I am able to come and give general advice about how you can help your children.

14.01.2022 A nice summary of yet more studies linking autism symptoms to gut issues ( and learning diffculties to early anitibiotic use) - and how to help your child with developmental delay. https://drruscio.com/autism-therapy-james-adams/

11.01.2022 Interesting developments in non medical therapy- Vagus nerve stimulation has been used for years to treat epilepsy, autism symptoms etc - now it is being trialled for kids with ADHD as an alternative to medication. https://www.romper.com/p/fda-approves-first-device-to-treat

11.01.2022 short video from ADDitude magazine about emotions and ADHD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=GeeeFsTaJss I find the ADDitude website has a lot of information on ADHD for parents:their link is https://www.additudemag.com/

10.01.2022 Something that is coming up more and more with my clients is the need for parents to have more control over their kids tech time. There are a few tablet safety items out there. Norton family does one, with an emphasis on protecting children from porn, violence and cyber attacks. Another, newer one is Circle, by Disney. I like that Circle offers a wider range of services and you dont have to download it on your kids device. You can read the details here: https://cybersafehouse.com/

06.01.2022 ADHD is soo much more than difficulty maintaining attention. It encompases emotional regulation differneces. When our children understand why they are the way they are, they will be much less likely to struggle with low self esteem and depression as teenagers. https://www.additudemag.com/symptoms-of-add-hyperarousal-/

05.01.2022 I see a lot of children with dyspraxia- which means, in part, that they have trouble planning their motor movements (using their muscles in a smooth manner). This page explains how dyspraxia can affect all parts of a childs daily life and how to help. https://elearninginfographics.com/deal-dyspraxia-infograph/

05.01.2022 Great article showing ADHD is a proven medical genetic issue and how meds work. Great article to share with those relatives and friends who dont believe in adhd.

02.01.2022 Here is a list of some symptoms of moderate to severe OCD in a child. OCD is a medical problem that needs to be managed by doctors, so unlike This post, I dont recommend parents trying to manage it themselves. Kids with ASD, ADHD, SPD and anxiety can often exhibit some symptoms of OCD. Other symptoms might include problem with obsessive thoughts leading to Acting distracted, or a need to have perfection in their school work.
