19.01.2022 So fun celebrating #nationalrecyclingweek with fellow councillor Janelle McIntosh - Hornsby Shire Councillor. We are both passionate about reducing waste and supporting local businesses. If you are too, here’s some welcome news from the EPA. Businesses with fewer than 400 employees could be eligible for a free waste assessment from an EPA ‘Bin Trim’ assessor. This includes receiving a detailed waste report, action plan and ongoing support. ... Rebates between $1000 and $50,000 can help with the cost of purchasing recycling equipment. For more information go to www.epa.nsw.gov.au/Bintrim

13.01.2022 If the federal government makes decisions that so clearly risk our farmers’ future, then they have to go. #votethemout #narrabrigas #csg #ourkidsfuturematters #climateaction

09.01.2022 You know those green electricity kiosks in every suburb? Council has been approached by JOLT & Ausgrid to turn them into electric vehicle charging stations in Beecroft, West Pennant Hills and Waitara. The kiosks would provide 7kwH which is about 15min/45kms free charging per day. There would be extended charging available via the JOLT App (which I assume would not be free). As I find out more I’ll post updates. It's urgent that we shift all vehicles to electric motors as fas...t as possible. Vehicle emissions have a terrible effect on our kids' brains and lungs. Now that NorthConnex is open, areas like Beecroft and West Pennant Hills will get concentrated diesel emissions from the unfiltered pollution stacks. Council should also dramatically improve car-share, public transport, walking and cycling options. EVs are great but they add to road congestion and their tyres shed plastic particulates. Everything we can do to help residents keep off roads altogether means fewer accidents and less plastic in our waterways. But in the meantime, this is an exciting step! #electriccar #renewableenergy #cleantransport #publictransport #climatechange

08.01.2022 Loved the chance to meet in person at our Cheltenham catch-up. We talked trees, playgrounds, MTB, better development, reducing red bin waste, signage on bush tracks, cycleways. Thanks to everyone who shares their ideas with me for better neighbourhoods in person, by email, messages & social media. I’m listening. And more importantly, then going and doing something on the issues you raise wirh me. #bushlandshire #trees #participatorydemocracy #haveasay #mylocalneighbourhood

07.01.2022 They’ve managed to raise thousands of dollars for medical research and education for kids in need even during this crazy year. Congratulations Rotary Pennant Hills and thank you for the chance to meet everyone who makes the magic happen #rotaryinternational #localheroes

06.01.2022 The market at Hornsby Mall has a Christmas feel today If you’ve never been, it’s a treat: fresh f&v, breads, honey, plants, mushrooms, olives, kombucha, local eggs. Every Thursday.

06.01.2022 EWASTE RECYCLING | I wanted to make sure our e-waste isn’t going offshore. And I’m so pleased to report that it’s recycled here in Sydney. All e-waste is delivered to Council’s contractor, Sims Recycling. At their Villawood plant the waste is sorted by hand and any components with heavy metals like mercury are removed. The e-waste is then placed in an automated shredder, where commodities are removed separately using eddy currents, magnets and other metal-finding technolog...y. Steel, plastic, aluminium and other components are then sent to Sims’ partner organisations in Australia and overseas for reuse and recycling. Precious metals including copper, gold and silver are also separated from circuit board materials for reuse. The remaining e-waste is then turned into new electronic items, electrical wiring, water piping, engine parts and building products. What’s accepted as e-waste? TVs desktop computers, laptops, tablets PC monitors loose hard drive keyboards & plastic computer speakers and mice motherboards video and sound cards printers (with toners removed) and scanners network devices, set top boxes all cables IT accessories, gaming equipment web cameras DVD and VCR players CD and DVD discs (discs only not the covers)

04.01.2022 There’s a big redistribution of state electoral boundaries coming. If you’re in Pennant Hills, Normanhurst, Westleigh and Thornleigh you might be joining the electorate of Wahroonga. Cherrybrook might end up in Hornsby. On the map below gold = proposed new boundaries. Have a say via the NSW Electoral Commission website before 9 December: https://www.elections.nsw.gov.au//Proposed-boundaries-and-... #nswpol See more

01.01.2022 Hornsby is mentioned in this article as one of the areas with highest canopy cover along with Cairns, Yarra Ranges, Sutherland Shire, and Tasmania’s Kingsborough Council. Now we’ve got to protect that canopy: we lose 15,000 trees a year
