22.01.2022 Throwback to my first trip to the remote Alice Springs community of Santa Teresa with Senator Malarndirri McCarthy - Northern Territory ... it was a special visit for me, to meet locals and hear their stories. We have an opportunity to do better for the current generation of First Nations kids by working to close gaps - not simple add more targets. Which we seemingly fail at. We stopped to collect some red dust - for this City mouse, which still proudly sits in my home serving as a reminder of the memories and the stories and the incredible resilience, the talent and the gift of our countries rich Indigenous history.

In the aftermath people wanted to know about the acts of physical violence the monster had engaged in. As we learnt more, we understood his acts of violence were less physical and were based on coercive control, financial and psychological abuse. This type of abuse is some of the hardest to identify and survive.... 03.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day (it’s also mental awareness month). It’s ok to not be ok. What’s not ok is not taking responsibility for your own mental health. It’s hard to ask for help, it’s hard to know where to begin and even harder to face up to the reality that you’re not doing ok. It will be the bravest thing you ever do. But you won’t regret it - EVER. You have survived all of your worst days.
