25.01.2022 Last session for the year with Will! Amazing to reflect on how much growth all of our surfers have had this year and how much they have accomplished. social story’s & visual plans can be so useful to support transitions, make expectations clear and create a supportive space with boundaries for exploration, play and growth! Will & I read His surfing story before every session. it’s been a game changer!

24.01.2022 MEET MATTY... introducing our new coach to the Ability Surf Team. yewwweeee!!! I could not be more stoked to have this legend by my side! He is one of the most caring, empathetic, playful & hilarious men I know! Matty brings a wealth of expertise as a Physio, surfer & life frother... not to mention he is my brother! #dreamteam We had SO much fun today with the surfer boys #gofargotogether... stay tuned as Matty will be providing physio surf in the coming months @ Lennox Head

16.01.2022 Family capacity building- one of our core beliefs at Ability Surf is the imperative role family members play in shaping an individuals skill development and their ability to thrive in different situations and experiences. I firmly believe that as therapists, 1 hour with us doesn’t compare to the 24hrs 7 days a week with family members and what these families experience. I believe family is SO important, but often interests, circumstances or different personalities..., (massive clashes) and all the daily stressors +++++ & of course the different abilities make it challenging for positive engagement and interactions in family dynamics. I see this frequently with the surfers and their siblings. And I also have a glimpse into how challenging it can be for the parents. Something that has blown my surf hat off though, is that when we take therapy to the ocean the interactions of siblings is out of this world, and the ‘whole family activity’ makes my heart burst. I have had more and more parents starting to get in the ocean learning to surf alongside their child and to me this is a huge part of what it’s all about. I want to acknowledge all the parents who are doing the most amazing job in raising their child who has different abilities and often juggling this with other children in the family. You are all raising the most amazing kids, and I know it is far from easy, but I want to say that I feel truely blessed to be able to share moments with every single one of them & all their super powers! I would encourage more people in our community to continue to learn compassion & empathy, because we truely have no idea what others are experiencing in their own realities. See more

15.01.2022 Sienna & Emma : look beneath the surface and we are promoting bilateral coordination, hand eye coordination, activating all sensory systems, core & postural control, balance, emotional resilience & confidence, play skills, ....to name a few on top of the surface though, we are playing pirates, captains, looking for treasure and developing surfing skills. A child’s main occupation is play, and therapy for kids should be play based (ie, not feel like therapy!)!this is where we will see the greatest skill development. At Ability Surf we have the powerful play source of the ocean, lakes, and sand- so it’s inevitable we are going to see positive impacts on a child’s development as they are engaged in an environment so supportive of their play & needs & interests. #occupationaltherapy #surftherapy #playbasedtherapy

03.01.2022 Sessions at Ability Surf are about so much more than just surfing! We use an Occupational Therapy approach to develop skills across all areas, but we do this in a way which is functional and meaningful through play and a child’s interest of surfing / the beach! Poppy SMASHED some goals today! Poppy did up her life jacket herself today, she paddled on request AND after 1.5years of surfing together she independently stood up on the board out the back in the line up! She stood up and walked the board, jumped off and couldn’t stop laughing! Poppy you are AMAZING! #surfergirl #surftherapy #occupationaltherapy
