24.01.2022 I'm super excited to speak to Aussie singing teachers about Vocology today at the ANATS National Conference! This virtual conference has been excellent so far, and it's so great to catch up online with voice teachers all across the country, as well as a few from overseas... what a lovely community . . .... . . #voice #singer #singing #voiceteacher #singingteacher #vocalcoach #singinglessons #vocals #music #musician #learntosing #vocologist #vocology #vocalhealth #voicepedagogy #anats See more

18.01.2022 So the science is still pretty young on this topic in the voice world, and more research needs to be done, but athletes know that cooling down after a workout is a good thing! We can apply this to singing, and many singers anecdotally report less fatigue, and more freedom in their voice when they cool down regularly In particular, many of the teachers and other high-voice-load professionals that I work with swear by a cool down session at the end of their work day! . A coo...l down is really simple, so try a little "Sigh & Fry" after your next practice session or performance and see how you feel! . "Sigh" - Gentle, descending scales or pitch glides. I like a simple 5-4-3-2-1 scale or 5-1 glide. You can use your fave SOVT, maybe straw phonation or a buzzy hum, or just a vowel sound, but it should be soft and easy, even a little breathy - like a sigh! "Fry" - After a couple of minutes of sighing, settle into your vocal fry. (You know, that lazy, bubbly kind of sound at the bottom of your range?) Keep this very low in volume and very effortless. Simply hold it for around 5 seconds at a time, and repeat a few times until everything feels relaxed and open! Happy singing!
