24.01.2022 I had so much fun joining Creatrix Tiara and Maize Wallin Music again this morning to open the ACNH Fringe Fest Gala Stream - a 12hr live stream event for the Melbourne Fringe Festival hosted entirely in Animal Crossing! If you're wanting something fun and informative to watch they are still streaming on Twitch until 10pm tonight! Visit http://acnhfringe.cc for the link and to buy a ticket/donate money to the performers!
24.01.2022 Thanks so much to everyone who watched the Animal Crossing livestream this morning and for the messages of support! I had so much fun. Here is the video, and don't forget to buy tickets for next weekend's main event of the ACNH Fringe Fest Gala Stream from the Melbourne Fringe website (feat. Me Again)
23.01.2022 Thank you Imbi Neeme - Writer for mentioning my book Watching Cartoons with Boys in your blog post published today by Meanjin Quarterly! It's truly an honour to hear that you wanted to finish my book before Margaret Atwood's (that's what I'm taking away from this and no-one can tell me otherwise)
18.01.2022 If you're looking for something to watch on Saturday morning why not tune into Creatrix Tiara & I playing Animal Crossing as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival! ACNH Fringe Fest is the world's first fringe festival held entirely within Animal Crossing, and I'm so excited to go & visit. We'll be talking about things like writing, creativity, and the joys of playing Animal Crossing when you're stuck in the Melbourne lockdown :D
10.01.2022 On Saturday 21 November I'll be joining the amazing Tiara of ACNH Fringe Fest via livestream to talk about Animal Crossing as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival! Animal Crossing has been a great source of comfort (and fun) for me during the Melbourne lockdown. Join the livestream to hear us talk about writing, creativity, and how I'm probably a bit too obsessed with Wade the penguin (event link in comments)
07.01.2022 A while ago I decided my novel Rare Birds didn't have a strong enough plot, so I've been looking through different methods and "beat sheets" for ideas on how to bring the story further to the front of my writing so that it's ready for the next step towards publication. It's always been a battle to convince myself that the kind of story I really want to write (introspective and angst-ridden) is _worthwhile_ and just as valid as the kind of stories that are traditionally "plot-driven" (thrillers, mysteries, adventures...). And so seeing pages like this that take the types of stories I love most and represent them in line with beat sheets, showing they are still very much plot-driven (when executed well) and are therefore just as worthy, is very affirming
06.01.2022 Hello neglected writing page! Some cool things are coming up in the next month. In the meantime:
02.01.2022 Laura Elizabeth Woollett writes about flying to Canberra for the Prime Minister's Literary Awards after being shortlisted, and then working an 11hr shift in a call centre the next day. A really powerful piece about how this government views the arts.
