22.01.2022 We would like to acknowledge and congratulate Tia (Year 12) on winning an award at the 2020 Angelico Art Exhibition. Tia describes her art work Never Cast a Shadow: Over the years, my mother stressed seemingly outlandish lessons like not to cast a shadow in the water, one that I found particularly intriguing. Her stories always came as a means of protection, as if the land had a mind of its own in the form of these beings. As an indigenous woman, I wanted to reference th...is cultural relationship between my spirituality, land and art, and the way these entities would watch us from the water as she would say. Through the use of acrylic, oil and spray paint, I chose to portray this rough self-portrait surrounded by a traditional beady-eyed depiction of these figures, encased in an Australian bushfire. Tias amazing artistic expression will be formally recognised during assembly later this term. #ECCsuccess
