25.01.2022 Two of my favourite people got married this weekend! Thankyou for trusting us with the florals. congratulations @natenoack & @ellekremer

25.01.2022 Unsure what to do with your verge? This was compacted earth with not much growing, about a year ago down in town at my parents. We have been growing an assortment of hardy natives, including Kangaroo Grass and Billy Buttons ( Craspedia globosa ) & Silver sunrise ( Conostylis Candicans) . I have had a few requests lately from people wanting to incorporate more water wise and bird & bee attracting plants in their gardens or verges. While the Aussie lawn still has its place I really believe there are so many alternatives to create a beautiful garden, which are much better suited to the hot dry summer climates. Check with your local council for Guidelines or information on planting your verge. Or get in touch with us if you want help designing and plant sourcing to transform your space!

25.01.2022 Chain of hearts - a real favourite! The string of hearts is a semi-succulent plant, which means it is more tolerant of dry soil than wet soil and is prone to rotting in wet soil. You should water it sparingly, if in doubt. You can always add more water. You can confidently allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Prefers a well lit spot.

24.01.2022 The perfect gift for dad this Fathers Day! These Okatsune secateurs are remarkably strong and well built pruners. Ideal for general gardening, horticulture, nursery work, Bonsai and Ikebana. Especially good for cutting tough heavy material. 200mm in length Approximate weight 180g Cutting capacity up to 25mm... Made in Japan See more

23.01.2022 We have been experimenting with what flowers grow well at our property in the Adelaide hills, we have frosts in winter, hot summer days with cool nights. We tried Dahlias last year and found they grew really well! The best location to plant Dahlias in the home garden situation is an area that has morning sun and afternoon shade. Dahlias do grow very well under shade cloth as well. ... As a general rule of thumb it is best to plant the tubers two weeks either side of the first week of November.

23.01.2022 Opening hours in the lead up to Xmas @ensemble.adl

22.01.2022 Ficus Alii for @hotelindigoadelaide

22.01.2022 The Peace lily , is an adaptable and low-maintenance houseplant. Plant styling in a lower light area for Mutual Trust. Peace lilies prefer partial shade, and can handle lower light areas. Yellowing leaves indicate that the light is too strong, and brown leaves or streaks indicate scorching from direct sunlight. Peace lilies like moist soil and on the off chance you let them go a little too long without water, theyll start to visibly droop. When you see your plant droop, gi...ve it a drink! They perk back up really quickly. Photo: @josiewithers

20.01.2022 Known for its sweet white and gold daisy like flowers and popular medicinal qualities, Chamomile is a wonderful addition to your patch. Once established chamomile needs very little water to survive and is a hardy drought tolerant herb that can make for a great alternative to lawn. Best harvested before midday on a sunny day, be sure to pick the opened heads gently. Toss fresh flowers through a green salad or dry on a wire sieve in a cool, airy place to keep for teas and infusions.

18.01.2022 Flannel flower is always a favourite

17.01.2022 PLANT GUIDE / Philodendron Florida Philodendron prefer a humid environment, using a mister occasionally can assist with replicating this. Great drainage is also a must! They like to grow upwards, and generally will be supported by a central totem to allow the growth to wrap around - looks very cool! Water more frequently throughout the warm seasons, allowing the top half of its soil to dry out before watering again.

17.01.2022 Lilliums are a beautiful garden flower for the summer months! They are a hardy plant, producing prolific flowers over the summer months which are also great for cut flowers. It is time to get them in the ground now so head over to @thediggersclub - and order through their website.

14.01.2022 Home Ficus burgundy is one of our favourite indoor house plant. An indoor plant but also ideal as a potted specimen plant for patios and verandahs. This will be happy in a room with filtered light, however it's best to keep it near a large window where it can get bright light to avoid the plant stretching to find any available light source. Use a damp soft cloth to keep leaves dust free. Avoid moving your plant around unnecessarily as sudden changes of light and temperature can adversely affect your plant. Protect from cold drafts and mist foliage with a trigger sprayer to keep plants looking fresh and increase humidity.

14.01.2022 Who loves propagating? You can add a few of the support pellets from @wethewildofficial into the water to boost growth. Available on our website and in store @ensemble.adl

13.01.2022 If you have the resources to make your own compost at home that’s great! But we understand that isn’t practice or an option for some people. Just restocked in the SA composters organic compost bags. Great to add to your potting mix for your indoor plants, to use in seed raising mix and in the garden! Perfect for incorporating into soil prior to planting. Matured compost is a 100% organic soil improver containing primary nutrients as well as trace elements, humus, and humic ...acids, in a slow release form. Compost improves soil porosity, drainage, aeration and moisture holding capacity at the same time as reducing compaction. Increases water and fertiliser holding capacity. Builds rich living soil. No unpleasant odour. Concentrated by the natural compost process.

12.01.2022 Once youve used one of these tools you will not be without it in your gardening basket - the Niwashi Gardeen Tool. This Japanese hoe has a sharp angled blade that cuts into the soil as you pull it towards you. This is a more natural movement and the tool becomes an extension of your arm. It is useful for breaking up solid soil, preparing ground for planting and ripping out stubborn weeds and tap roots.... Available online. Image: @gretlwb_photo

11.01.2022 At home the garden shooting for @ensemble.adl our store is open 10-3pm today, and we have loads of great gardening products and gifts for dad in store

11.01.2022 First flowers from the Cymbidium orchids we have been growing at home. When growing these orchids, light is one of the most important factors. Hot sun will burn the leaves but too little sun will reduce flowering. Dappled light is best. In frosty areas, like where we are in the hills, we have been growing these in our greenhouse.

11.01.2022 PLANT PROFILE / Agave Agave plants are part of the succulent family, and are super easy to care for in our harsh Australian climate. They work amazingly as sculptural elements to your garden with their modern angular formed stems. With many Agave varieties to choose from, there will always be one that is the perfect shape and sizes for your landscape.

11.01.2022 The secret to successful cuttings is not allowing the plants to dry out, or become waterlogged and rot prior to roots developing. Don’t have a green house? You can easily make a mini hot house for your cuttings. Pot up your tip cuttings into an appropriate mix in a pot ( pearlite, potting mix, sand etc)... Grab four old wooden chopsticks, small sticks or small bamboo plant stakes and place these at equal distances around the inner rim of the pot, so they are sitting at least 10cm higher than to pot Using a recycled plastic bag, slip this over the top of the sticks and pull down as far as it will go without tearing Secure the bag underneath the pot, or you can tie it up with string or a rubber band. Once the bag is secured, pull the bag away just slightly, take a deep breath and blow, filling the bag with air. Open this up every few days and keep this out of the direct sun. See more

09.01.2022 Finally an alternative to floral foam. Oasis is commonly used by florists for ease and its water holding abilities. However this is a single use plastic that gets thrown away. Agra-Wool @agra.wool.international is a 100% natural floral foam and is a great environmentally friendly alternative to regular floral foam. It is made from a benign material that is non-toxic and made from 97% basalt mineral rock fibres. This Eco-friendly product absorbs water quickly and is almost a...s firm as floral foam. Agra-Wool can be used for securing both fresh & artificial flowers in any floral arrangement. Once the binding material has degraded, the product becomes rock dust that can be added back into the soil. Furthermore, this material is environmentally friendly in waterways and safe for incorrect disposal as it poses no risk if ingested by animals. We can’t wait to test this product this Friday for @isabellaias wedding. We found an Aussie stockist @kochandco Also check out @nofloralfoam for some amazing inspiration and ideas for alternatives to floral foam.
