09.01.2022 Year 10 Extension Science students will be studying electricity and circuits next term. As an introduction to this topic, Mr Conaghan’s class has been investigating static electricity using electro-static rods and the Van de Graaff generator. The Van de Graaff generator can be used to demonstrate the effects involving static electricity, once the Van de Graaff starts charging, it transfers the charge to the person who is touching it. The student's hair follicles are getting charged to the same potential and they try and repel each other, hence why their hair stands up.
