22.01.2022 Excellent essay arguing for the importance of listening to the particular 'expertise' of everyday people in relation to health policy - important at any time, but critical in a pandemic.

22.01.2022 In honour of World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August), we are sharing the varied range of stories of mothers and fathers interviewed for our Early Parenthood online resource about feeding and settling their babies. Not all mothers were able to breastfeed, and so you'll also hear from those who bottle fed, or combined both breast and bottle. https://healthtalkaustralia.org//caring-for-a-baby-feedin/

19.01.2022 As Women's Health Week draws to a close, a reminder that we have two digital resources on health and illness experiences that are relevant to women's health - Emotional Experiences of Early Parenthood and Early Menopause - Women's Experiences. Here's a small sample of what you can find on our early #menopause resource. Visit us at healthtalkaustralia.org!

17.01.2022 "...society needs to adapt to the fact that human beings require care when we are children, when we are old, when we are sick rather than our care needs having to be adapted to the rigidities and imperatives of the labour market." Interesting essay drawing on the ideas of European feminists pointing out the limitations inherent in capitalism with respect to the valuing of care.

17.01.2022 Coronavirus (COVID-19) resources in languages other than English available below. Take care everyone.

16.01.2022 Research team members at launch of Severe Asthma website at the Newcastle Museum tonight

14.01.2022 Sobering research findings from Jane Ussher and colleagues in Sydney. All the women who experienced cancer interviewed for our early menopause study were told about the fertility impacts of treatment and offered fertility preservation. However, for many these were fraught conversations in which women felt forced to make near impossible choices between survival and a chance at future parenthood, and at a highly stressful time when they were very unwell. https://www.smh.com.au//cancer-treatments-can-cause-infert

13.01.2022 Looking forward to hearing from Vrinda Edan from VMIAC, Katherine Boydell from UNSW and Isabela Granic from Radboud University in the Netherlands speak about transforming the mental health research agenda at this RMIT-hosted event this afternoon!

11.01.2022 Mask myth-busting!

11.01.2022 In our current study of experiences of #infertility, we are interested in hearing from people with experience of donor conception (whether or not this led to a pregnancy). This article touches on some of the issues people who become pregnant with the help of a donor might like to consider in talking to their child about how they came into the world.

10.01.2022 Our colleagues at Monash are seeking women with PCOS, their partners or carers for a 3-hour discussion panel on #PCOS and lifestyle. Please see details below.

08.01.2022 Our thoughts are with all Australians contending with bushfire smoke at the moment and particularly those with respiratory conditions or who work or live outdoors - please see below some useful information about face masks and other health precautions from Healthdirect Australia.

07.01.2022 A really nice article picking up on how collective action to #flattenthecurve and slow the spread of COVID-19 can be be seen as shared solidarity in support of population health, and through this support for our community's most vulnerable members and the healthcare workers on the frontline.

07.01.2022 Looking forward to attending this year's AMICRI conference, 'Motherhood in an Age of Neoliberalism & Individualisation' next week in Sydney, and presenting on a chapter from our 2018 book 'Paths to Parenthood'. (Interested Sydneysiders - tickets are still available for the keynote addresses, delivered by a fab line-up - Eva Cox, Andrea O'Reilly, Petra Bueskens & Renata Klein - visit mothering.org.au/conferences for more info.)

(NB: our brand n...ew article in 'Medical Humanities' is open access, i.e. free!!) * quotation marks indicate the contested nature of this term. https://healthtalkaustralia.org/publications-presentations/

03.01.2022 Australia has produced a world first evidence-based guideline for the diagnosis and management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This is a fantastic development! Too many women experience long diagnostic delays and problems accessing appropriate treatment:

03.01.2022 How can the health system better support expectant and new fathers? Many of the men interviewed in our Emotional Experiences of Early Parenthood shared their perspectives on this topic, and now you can too - if you are a man who has had, or tried to have a baby in the last 5 years, this survey is for you. (It's from Healthy Male, an Australian government-supported initiative to promote male reproductive and sexual health.)

01.01.2022 We've been a bit quiet on this page of late, but busy working away on a few different things, including our two new studies - one on experiences of infertility and fertility treatment, and one on experiences of borderline personality disorder. We will be submitting our ethics application for our BPD project in the near future, and - all going well - will be advertising for both research participants and representatives for our Reference Group for our infertility project in the even nearer future!
