22.01.2022 It’s Week 12 and we are full of respect. There are very few needs that are as crucial to humans as respect. Perceived lack of respect has been the reason for conflict between individuals, groups (incl. families), on national and international levels, leading to contempt, humiliation and war. When we fulfil our need for respect, we feel safe and can express ourselves with trust, resolving differences constructively. But while it’s easy to assert our right to respect, it can b...e a different story when it comes to extending respect to others. Moreover, how someone shows respect may not necessarily match our ways as there are profound cultural differences. Yet the baseline for respect is the same everywhere: honesty, presence, consideration. Liking someone, incidentally, is optional. For this week I am inviting you to become aware of how you show someone respect, e.g. your awareness of others’ emotions; how you listen; your patience; how you express gratitude. Notice what tells you that you are being respected. Feel how you feel and notice how you respond. What are your boundaries? This leads to an important question that impacts how you deal with yourself and others: How do you respect yourself? #respect #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #knowyourself

05.01.2022 When I work with my leadership development coaching clients, we invariably discuss managing conflict situations and making tough decisions. The question I also invariably ask is this: If you had the choice between being liked and being respected, what would you choose? Most people immediately respond with Respect. Then, when we examine their choices, they often discover that while respect may be their ideal, their reactions are often based on wanting to be liked. What would you choose? Honestly. If you are not sure, let’s talk. #respect #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #leadership #selfleadership #beingliked

04.01.2022 Oops, I just realised I didn’t post this week’s #52needs. I was too busy adventuring - inside, in a short hard lockdown. It’s Week 13 and we are full of adventure. Adventure is anything that has an unknown outcome. It provides us with a sense of purpose and excitement and gets us curious about fresh and new things. We find adventure in exhilarating challenges. So can we still have an adventure when we have phones with built-in maps, apps and websites that provide detaile...d instructions for anything we can think of? Yes, we can. Where do we find adventure? Anywhere. In times of lockdown and restrictions, adventure doesn’t have to include getting on or jumping out of a plane or getting lost in the wilderness. It could mean exploring a part of your town you have never been to, taking on a physical challenge, cooking a new dish without a recipe, learning a new language, or Adventure is very personal. Anything goes. For this week I am inviting you to find a mental or physical activity that defies your definition of ‘normal’. Get in touch with the intrepid part of you. Set yourself an energising task that takes you away from the predictable. Find what you would consider a worthwhile risk that lies somewhere on the scale between ‘stimulating’ and ‘unacceptable hazard’. What will happen when you connect with invigorating uncertainty without the guarantee of success? #adventure #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #knowyourself See more

02.01.2022 The traditional model of leadership doesn’t require honesty and transparency. The leader delegates a task and the follower complies. And while the leader expects to be treated with respect and consideration, this right doesn’t necessarily extend in the other direction. Which means trust isn't part of the equation. This also means that valuable ideas are held back, problems remain unresolved, opportunities for improvement are missed. Now imagine a world where a leader and a ...team-member work together to create a solution for an issue that solves more than one problem, enhances effectiveness and accelerates the organisation’s trajectory simply because respect flows in both directions. Because of that, there is trust and honesty. Which means new possibilities open up. Which means everyone and everything grows. That’s the power of respect. #respect #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #leadership #trust #growth #teamrespect #powerofrespect

02.01.2022 It’s Week 14 and we are focussing on the importance of health. An apple a day supposedly keeps the doctor away. In reality, that’s more likely to be the pharmacist and prescription medication, since apples, like other fruit and vegetables, boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. What we eat, we become. So it makes sense to consume foods close to nature that provide the best building blocks for new cells. But health goes beyond the physical. It includes mental, emoti...onal and social wellbeing. All of these put together create the foundation for a life of high self-esteem. And while genes and epigenetics also play a role, your conscious choices in living a healthy lifestyle will make a big difference. For this week, I am inviting you to explore what health means to you. Notice which aspects you actively support and which ones you neglect. Become aware of the food and drink you put into your body and how it impacts on your sleep. How much do you move? Notice what thoughts may not serve your peace of mind. Are you challenging outdated beliefs and learning new things? What emotions are you not letting go of that have the potential to create dis-ease? Do the people around you support your well-being or do they undermine it? There is lots to explore. #health #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #knowyourself

02.01.2022 When we talk about health, it’s easy to forget that mental health is as important as physical health. Unfortunately, the attitude we have towards mental health issues isn’t quite the same. A broken bone will eventually heal. It still requires a cast. Telling someone to get over depression is the equivalent of telling someone to just keep walking with a broken leg, that they don’t need a cast. Isn’t it time we change the conversation? #health #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #mentalhealth

02.01.2022 We wouldn’t exist without sunshine. So it’s no wonder that our health benefits hugely from it. Here are just a few of the facts. And while we are talking about sunshine, how about adding some Sunshine People into your life? Like the sun they shine and lift you up but they don’t take responsibility for you. That’s another kind of healthy. If you want to know more about how you can find Sunshine People, message me. #health #52needs #emotionalproductivity #emotionalintelligence #sunshine #sun #healthy #sunshinepeople #facts
