10.01.2022 Why Serve others? Fundamentally, helping, fixing and service are ways of seeing life. When you help you see life as weak, when you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you see life as whole. From the perspective of service, we are all connected: All suffering is like my suffering and all joy is like my joy. The impulse to serve emerges naturally and inevitably from this way of seeing. Fixing and helping are the basis of curing, serving is the basis of healing. ... 08.01.2022 Why is it important for your heart to practise relaxation? Relaxation helps to reduce the bio markers of cardiovascular risk. It improves the hearts ability to maintain blood pressure and/or heart rate in the face of daily stressors. Those who regularly meditate have been shown to have a reduced expression of inflammatory genes compared to those who do not. A recent study found that in a group who had not regularly meditated, but were assigned relaxation training sessions in...corporating meditation, after only 2 months of practise their genetic expression of pro-inflammatory genes had altered to resemble that of long term meditators. Practising relaxation also reduced the expression of genes promoting insulin resistance, the forerunner to type 2 diabetes and weight gain. The results of this study highlighted the importance of relaxation and how it can create resilience of the human system in a short time, supporting the theory that: It is never too late to make a change! Mindful meditation has become one of the most popular relaxation practices. A stress reduction program based on mindfulness has been associated with strengthening the immune system, improvement in relation to hypertension and depression, and raising activity of telomerase, an enzyme that slows biological ageing. If you would like to learn how to practice mindful meditation, or would be interested in joining a stress reduction program incorporating mindful meditation, please reach out to ERT today!

03.01.2022 A great version of this song- Though it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song and played often in churches, Hallelujah lyrically has a very different story, namely the second verse. While it uses a large amount of religious references and imagery, it can speak more towards a relationship that is not necessarily with God. Hallelujah is Hebrew, meaning Glory to the Lord. However, the word could be a synonym for a variety of things, such as love, life, or specific exper...iences. The line It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah proposes that there are different types of Hallelujah, not just one that is taxing on a person and one-sided, or cold and broken. Leonard Cohen was the original writer of the song. Information courtesy of Genius app
