25.01.2022 One of the top 5 exercises and a great compound movement which works out so many different muscles simultaneously. If you're really wanting to test your strength throw a few of these in the mix. Pull ups are super rewarding because you are essentially pulling up your own bodyweight vertically. I personally find pull ups (pronated grip) more difficult than chin ups (supinated grip). The main reason for this is one being pull ups engage more lower traps and chin ups use more biceps. 09.01.2022 Mindful Eating During the winter season we all wonder why we gain extra layers of softness in certain areas of the body. In order to avoid extra body fat it is imperative we practice mindful eating. Holding yourself accountable through different stages of your life is key. Our surroundings, environment, cultural beliefs, upbringing, age and gender all have a major impact on our overall health and wellbeing. The food we ingest has a strong correlation with our mental health.... Our digestive system has it’s own nervous system and communicates with our brain regularly. That is why practicing mindful eating is vital. Notice how you feel and look after you ingest certain types of foods. Some key elements to take note are: - What sort of foods are you eating? - How much are you eating and how frequently? - When eating and are you in fight or flight (sympathetic) mode or in rest and digest (parasympathetic) mode? In order to break these habits on a phycological level we must break through old patterns and be open to new ways and possibilities. Tips: 1) Set your goals (constantly) as goals will change as we progress through life 2) Calculate your baseline calorie intake, macros, micronutrients 3) Distinguish your PAL (perceived activity level) 4) Eat enough fibre 25g for women and 30g for men 5) Drink enough water 30-35mls x your bodyweight and more when it’s hot and during training. No amount of exercise, cardio, resistance training or HIIT will get you the results you’re after unless you focus on your diet. Save your energy and expend it responsibly as each task that we do on a daily basis requires a block of your energy. Feeling depleted isn’t going to get you through your day easily. Be kind to yourself and always remember too much of anything is not good for you long term as balance is key. Staying in shape, dropping body fat or getting totally ripped all require the skill of mindful eating. Some tips on how to practice mindful eating are: Stay present, aim to be consistent, be determined.
