22.01.2022 Hi all! Hope everyone is staying safe and sane! Due to Covid lockdown and having 5 stitches in my foot, lessons will be post poned until further notice :( Ill assume by this point youre curious to what I did to required 5 stitches. Ironically it was not horse related, or even outdoor related! I didnt lift my foot high enough while stepping over some dismantled furinature and caught the top of my foot on a bolt. Luckily it doesnt and didnt really hurt but I do need to look a...fter it for 2 weeks! As always, thankyou to all my amazing clients and friends for your support so far this year. Its been incredible seeing the progress you guys have made and time out like this makes me miss you all! If anyone needs extra support over this lockdown period, Im here! <3
21.01.2022 Loving horses doesn't mean you have to ride them. Bellossom and I enjoyed a very peaceful trail walk together with Daisy and her pony, Misty. Daisy has out grown Misty but that doesn't stop them from enjoying doing things together. Bellossom is still young and this was her second outing. They were both so relaxed <3 we will definitely be doing more outings like this now that we're closer to Kuitpo!
21.01.2022 Enjoying the warm weather to kick off the year!
20.01.2022 Today was a big reminder of how lucky I am to be surrounded by such lovely, supportive clients and friends. Mt Torrens is very quickly becoming a community second to none! <3
20.01.2022 Windameres Pedro and Pablo have come to Mt Torrens to have some more exposure and handling. I just want to take them both home with me
20.01.2022 We had a healthy dose of equine therapy today at Empathy Horsemanship! Working with horses can be an brilliant way to bring your mind back to the present and reconnect our minds to our bodies. Calming our anxieties and relieving stress. I'm so blessed to have such beautiful gentle horses and great friends and clients to share them with.... I'm constantly reminded of how luckily we are to having these beautiful creatures in our lives. Don't forget to live in the present and count your blessings daily!!!
20.01.2022 Pika and Bells ending 2020 with a splash! Stay safe everyone and have a happy new year! <3
20.01.2022 Thanks Sunday team for your help today! Its been a while so it was nice to get back into it! Houdini had his 4th ride (very spaced out) and first trots this week! He was an angel! Hes going to be an awesome an awesome pleasure mount for someone! And well done little Gypsy who had her first ride under saddle today! <3 Gypsy has been so well exposed with empathy and patience that being ridden for the first time was such a non event. Well done Rosemary! Shes a credit to you.
19.01.2022 Today we discovered Pedro likes water too! Hes such a cool dude
17.01.2022 Brooklyn and Kahlene had their lessons today with Totoro and Pika and Millie, Rosemary and I took Rosemary's horses out for a trail ride. Gypsy had her little baby ride too, Bless her! What a perfect day
16.01.2022 Great to finally be back at work this week! <3
16.01.2022 At the end of your days you will regret more things you didn't do than those you did. Don't put your life on hold in fear of judgement from others. It's not their life, it's yours! Surround yourself with people who build you up and cheer you on and be that kind of person to those around you too! And remember, mistakes are just proof you're trying! So go get that horse or two or three! :p practice shamelessly, go to that clinic, wear those off brand clothes, be that person t...hat does things differently. The only judgement that matters is your judgement of yourself, so go be someone your proud of! And most importantly, LIVE IN THE MOMENT, because that's where your horse is <3
15.01.2022 Rosie's 2nd ride and 1st trail ride. Bless her gentle soul! Definitely was not planned but she told me she really didn't mind... so off we went
15.01.2022 Sunday and Monday.
11.01.2022 The last couple of days I've been thinking alot about how I would explain my approach to training. I really feel it boils down to 3 steps. UNDERSTANDING. First the horse must understand what's being asked of them. RELAXATION. Then they need to be able to do those things in a relaxed and confident manner.... EFFORT. Only when the horse understands what it is they're supposed to be doing and are relaxed doing so, can you ask for it to be done with more effort. I believe the step of RELAXATION is the most neglected in modern training methods, resulting in a variety of common behavioural issues. I spend the majority of my time teaching horses and students this step. It requires empathy and awareness. It requires patience to allow the horse to process its feelings and come to their own conclusion that everythings okay! And the results speak for themselves.
11.01.2022 Yesterday a group of clients and I took our young horses in training to Antola Lodge! Everyone did so well! It was lovely to have a group of like minded people to help keep a relaxed no expectation environment for the young horses... and ourselves! Relationship and trust between human and horse really shows in situations like these! <3 Well done everyone
10.01.2022 I hope everyone has had a very Merry Christmas! I am back at work now and ready to start the new year! If Ive forgotten to message you already to resume lessons, just harrass me. Im hopeless
09.01.2022 We welcomed Spin back to Mt Torrens this morning to help Pika and Totoro with lessons temporarily! Thankyou Ros for lending him to me! Windamere welcomed little Elvis to the family yesterday. He looks like hes touched the electric fence a few too many times Dusty, Spirit and Houdini came out first for a groundwork and curiosity training. ... Brooklyn started teaching Dusty how to send off and be relaxed on the circle. Daisy continued her bonding with Houdini, who she has a big soft spot for! And Kahlene and her daughter took Spirit for a sniff and explore around the arena just to get her out of the paddock and get some blood flow to her hooves. Brooklyn and Daisy had a lesson with Pika and Spin. They're starting to see how all the little things we do all come together in the end! Gilly and Jane joined us for a trail walk. Brooklyn took Stretch, Daisy took Houds and I took little Pedro omg hes such a dude. I dunno how hes still with us, hes such a good little pony. Jane and Gilly got to see their mental training at home work with anxiety out on the trail. "To use a tool, you first have to create a tool" and the results spoke for themselves. Well done Jane, a big breakthrough for you both. Then over to Katie to see Spartan/Aang and Bellossom. We worked on our judgment and relaxation for groundwork and feeding/gate manners. All three of them did me proud as usual
09.01.2022 Houdini had his 4th ride and second trots today. Hes going to be such an easy mount for some lucky person <3
07.01.2022 I'm really struggling physically at the moment with my recent increase of physical work load! Heavy lifting and walking alot more than usual. I'm absolutely stuffed and old injuries are bothering me. I'm cranky, short tempered, over thinking and feeling negatively about pretty much everything! Im even getting annoyed that my dogs are excited to see me and jumping around, bumping into me accidentally When I'm in pain I feel like a totally different person. I know this is te...mporary but it does remind me of how I felt for 7 years with chronic pain from whiplash. It effected my personality and behaviour daily and took years of trying numerous different therapists to finally get results! Over the past 12 months I've seen a significant amount of horses displaying behavioural issues that have originated from physical discomfort. The genuinely anxious and confused horses make impressively quick progress with their training, while the ones in pain do not. They can't tell us what's wrong but that doesn't mean we can't find out. Try another therapist, get the vet, get an x-ray, dig deeper until you get some answers that make sense and actually start seeing results! I think sometimes we don't want to know incase it's bad news or its going to be expensive. But when they do so much to enrich our lives... keeping them happy and healthy is the least we can do to show our appreciation for them!
06.01.2022 Kerry and Kaisa watching Maddie and Millies lesson today
05.01.2022 Hi guys! I'm in Tas for a week visiting family so instead of my usual training updates I thought I'd ask you guys a few questions! The picture is of me when I was 14 with my first horse, Jaffa. I have a long long list of things I wish I knew back then. After 3 months he went absolutely mental and I had no idea why or how to deal with it. I got thrown off at least once a month. Even though I was at a riding school there was no support or help to understand how horses think or... how to problem solve! My goal with my business is to be the person I needed back then. So my first question is: What do you wish you knew when you first started your journey with horses?
04.01.2022 Photo dump! Sunday and Monday
02.01.2022 Todays little highlight. Little Pablo is very nervous of people and definitely not keen on being caught. Ive spent the last few days hanging out with him and Pedro, approaching them only to give them a treat then walking away and hanging out while they enjoy some lucerne with me there. Incentive and positive assosication is so important. The little game I play with him here is to give him a sense of control and confidence in his situation, not only does the halter go away if he touches it but it gets him a treat! Added bonus... hes starting to feel comfortable being so close to me.
01.01.2022 Big busy day! Shirley and Evie had a ride on Stretch. He was so relaxed. I teared up a bit! So happy to see him come so far and be so happy and relaxed around people! Had a ride on Totoro in the indoor. He's had a few months off and was a bit unsure about leaving his friends but some green grass on the way back to the paddock hit the spot apparently! He wanted to come straight back out again! I guess food > friends Katie and I took Rosie and Spartan for a ride down the r...oad. Rosie was an absolute champion. Very very proud of her! Finished the day with an evening clean of the paddock and drop off feed at Darby Lodge. The sunsets are so pretty! And last pics are of Daisy the brumby this morning doing some float loading training. She's decided it's not something she's interested in but luckily Lisa now has her own float to practice with and can take her time building Daisy's confidence with it all. She's a ripper pony!
