25.01.2022 The unthinkable is happening. Our amazing youth leaders with their impressive beards and luscious locks will be shaving them off if we can hit the $4.5k mark. 20.01.2022 Our final goal for Relay for Life is a good one! Our Youth Leader Greg has promised to dress up as a fairy princess if we can reach $3000. This is a decent jump from where we are now, but there’s nothing quite like a good dress up costume for motivation!

20.01.2022 We are on day two of our bible reading plans as a group, but heres the thing: I dont want you to get caught up on which day we are up to. I dont want us getting worried about getting behind. I signed up for both plans because, hey, Im your leader right? I should be doing both! But yesterday I didnt get time to sit down properly and do both of them. Today, I had the space. I did day two of the one Im running, and then I sat down and thought Ill just do day one of Sarahs reading plan too. I ended up doing day one and two, but thats just a bonus. Its not that I caught up - I wasnt behind to begin with. Do it at your own pace. See if removing that pressure helps it to be something enjoyable and stops it becoming a chore or a source of anxiety

Weve got some ideas on using technology to help us keep in touch throughout the week. Have a think about the things that stop you reading the word (is it a lack of time? Is it hard to understand?) and we will chat about what we can do to help you put more into it and get more out of it.

Keep in mind that we can only have one family in the foyer at a time, so maybe bring a brollie so you dont have to crowd in the entryway. 10.01.2022 Empire Youth will be running in a different format tomorrow night - we are going online! After talking with our church leaders today, we feel that we cant possibly maintain the social distancing standards required within a youth gathering (also, how awkward would it be standing 1.5m apart from each other? ) so we are meeting in a format that means we can speak, we can engage with each other, but theres a bit less shared oxygen. To keep it nice and safe, you need to send us a message to get access to the online workspace we are using, so send through a message if you havent yet had the details and password given to you

08.01.2022 Tonight Youth Group is not on officially. Instead, we are meeting up in the school holidays to work on our church building, build some things that weve been wanting to sort out for a while, and generally tidy the place up a bit! We are starting at 6pm

05.01.2022 Today we are trying to think about the future! The social justice program we support - Revive Food Pantry - is running very low on a lot of their supplies. Theyve had to close their doors along with our church building during the shutdown, but we want to make sure they are restocked by the time they can reopen (whenever that may be). We have been thinking about creative ways we can make money stretch further and this is one of them: buying smaller quantities and hotel ammenities instead of buying huge single packs of shampoo and conditioner. The razor kits and dental kits in particular are perfect: single packs, wrapped for hygiene, and so much cheaper than we can find them elsewhere if you want to get on board and support this local food pantry then please just get in contact for details on drop-off places for food

03.01.2022 Empire and CORE are on holidays for the next TWO WEEKS! So dont rock up at the church at night until Sunday 21st July. We will be at GBC Sunday mornings at 10am if you guys miss us too much

03.01.2022 Last day to register for CAMP (except, well I won't really close regos until tomorrow afternoon because I'm nice) Here's the packing list in case you haven't seen it in your email inbox: PACKING LIST!... Please remember that we don't have a great deal of space so don't go overboard with packing. Only bring a tent if you are the person bringing one for your group, and there's no need to bring any fancy clothes. We are all going to be bush grubs for three days together. Saying that, here's a list of what you should bring as well as a list of banned items: CLOTHING We will be camping for two nights, so plan accordingly and bring a few changes of clothes. It will be around 18 degrees, so it's not hot by any means, but and it will likely be cold in the evenings and overnight. Enclosed shoes for walking (and a second pair as a back up) Warm socks Hat/Cap + Beanie Jeans / thick pants Shorts (if you think 18 degrees is hot) Several jumpers and t-shirts Underwear and normal socks (you probably should just know to pack that) Sleepwear (warm stuff) A jacket A black t-shirt for one of the games BEDDING If you volunteered to bring a tent, make sure you've either given it to us ahead of time, or you have it with you when you get on the bus. Sleeping under the stars in 4 degree weather is not going to be pleasant. Pillow Sleeping Bag / Sheet + blanket A towel Toiletries (toothpaste + toothbrush) Wet Wipes (there is one outdoor shower we will all be sharing so don't plan on using it) OTHER STUFF We will be exploring the bush, playing games, and camping related activities like making damper, but we will also be spending time playing music around the campfire and listening to some amazing speakers. So come prepared: Pen + notebook Bible You can bring your phone, but it will only be used to communicate with home if you need to, or taking photos (lets try to unplug for just one weekend) This one is important: please bring your own cup, plate, bowl + cutlery. DONT BRING Guys - we are bush camping. Potentially in the cold and wind. Its going to be fun, but you dont need electronics, headphones, and other expensive items that might get ruined. Hair straighteners are completely unnecessary. You also really dont need weapons (no, not even a knife) or fire-starting items such as matches, camp stoves, or lighters. If you bring any weapons, they will be taken off you and your parents may be asked to make a 1.5 hour trip to pick you up and take you home. If you need to make sure your phone keeps working over the weekend (to contact your parents) then please bring a portable charger. There are no electrical outlets! There is still some time to register, so if you have a friend who isn't coming yet please remind them to register. We are really looking forward to spending the weekend with you all and another amazing term together at Empire Youth!

02.01.2022 Our final round of the battle of the memes came to a tie TWICE tonight (Skye almost died of sheer desperation for the game to be over). We had to call another leader over the phone to get a final deciding vote - so these five were our final five best memes from their categories: Covid Memes, Youth Group Memes, Empire Youth Menes, Self-Made Memes, and Christian Memes. The final winner was the homeschooling one, which is incredibly suitable to our particular youth group (they are overtaking )
