24.01.2022 Let's focus on Progress over Perfection. The word progress means to move towards an outcome or goal. Reaching a goal can take longer than expected due to 3 reasons:... 1. The goal isn’t clear and precise 2. Perfectionism gets in the way 3. Lack of consistency I’ve had clients in my business program achieve more in a few days or weeks than they have in months, through applying this one principle. Being consistent with taking actions towards reaching the outcome you want is PROGRESS. It took Thomas Edison 10,000 attempts before inventing the light bulb and each attempt got him closer to success. He didn’t see each attempt as a failure but a step towards the invention of the light bulb. Comment below your number one light bulb moment from this video.
22.01.2022 By now hopefully, you have set time aside to reflect on the year that was for 2019/20. In July, together with my clients, we reflected on their business and identified the following: Wins: to celebrate... Learnings: to embrace Insights: to integrate into the future We also used this reflection time to identify what they were going to stop doing, start doing and continue doing in the new financial year. Need assistance with your reflection and future planning, just get in touch with me and I'd be happy to have a chat.
22.01.2022 Looking at numbers in isolation will not give you the full picture of how a business is doing. Speaking with those involved in the business at all levels, both internal and external parties. Understanding the process, hearing the challenges and successes is what helps interpret the numbers for you to make better decisions moving forward. #continuousimprovement #businessgrowth #smallbusiness #decisionmaking #businessplanning #businessnumbers #empowerbeyond #teamwork #communication
21.01.2022 There are days when we have all good intention to get certain jobs completed, but sometimes unexpected things happen, some of which are out of our control. Not every day will go as planned and we have to learn to respond in a way where plans may have to change but the end goal still remains. Right now, it may seem that your goals for the business are not on track to being achieved. Maybe the plan you previously had is no longer relevant or has some challenges. Don’t give up... on your goals, look at other strategies that will help you get there. #planning #business #teamwork #goals #support #empowerbeyond

17.01.2022 At the end of each month, take the time to reflect on the actual results. Based on the information you have at hand, you can either choose to continue with existing goals or reassess your goals for the next month.
16.01.2022 How we turn up each day is so important to our success. Additional to setting your goals and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for your business, another important element to factor in is what the business stands for and how it's people conduct themselves. It's the values, beliefs, attitudes, guiding principles and the culture. The diagram below deliberately has the 'BE-ing' as the foundation as it drives the actions we take and the goals we achieve. ... By taking care of your BE-ing, the result will take care of themselves. It will have a natural flow-on effect. Notice how you and your staff turn up each day and identify what part of the BE-ing is impacting your business results
15.01.2022 GET COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE How many times have you said to yourself, I want to but find yourself not fulfilling that want? Have you looked back and realised that achieving goals in your business have taken longer than you expected, and you find that disappointing?... A contributing factor could be you feeling uncomfortable with taking the steps required to achieve the goal. Every day in business we find a situation where it can feel uncomfortable, whether that’s making a sales call, looking at your financials, having a conversation with a staff member, letting others take on a task you would normally do, being in an environment you are not used to or asking for help. For some of you, these scenarios may now be the norm and you do them without having to think about it your UNCOMFORTABLE has now become COMFORTABLE For others, these scenarios may be new to you or still making you feel uncomfortable and find yourself putting things off and even avoiding them completely. As a consequence, business is growing but not at the rate you hoped for. I found myself being uncomfortable with doing a lot of things in my business, especially when first starting out. What made me uncomfortable was the fear of not being good enough, the fear of getting it wrong, the fear of getting a no (rejection). What I realised was that these fears where going to be there anyway, but the faster I took action the faster these fears diminish. What used to make me feel uncomfortable is now comfortable. Today take on the challenge to find one thing that you have been putting off doing because it makes you feel uncomfortable and action it. Let’s start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
14.01.2022 We can’t control what gets enforced by the government and other authorities, but we can control how we respond to it. #business #strategicplanning #forwardthinking
13.01.2022 Numbers, both financial and non financial are measurable tools that provides you with past and current data for your business. This information can be used to make informed future decisions. Avoid using gut feel or assumptions - use facts Examples of financial and non financial numbers: ... - Sales - Average customer sales value - Net profit - Margins - Aged Accounts Receivable - Aged Accounts Payable - Turnaround time - Defects / Rework - Wastage - Customer complaints - Machine breakdown - Enquiries - Conversion rates #continuousimprovement #businessgrowth #smallbusiness #decisionmaking #manufacturing #businessplanning #businessnumbers #empowerbeyond
12.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR! - Back into the swing of things. I hope you took some time out to spend with family and friends. For me this year I naturally got into the holiday mode which is something I find challenging.... When running your own business, it’s hard to switch off. I think you know what I’m talking about. For two weeks, I surrender to relaxing, I took a drive to Dromana for the day with the family, read The Will To Fly by Lydia Lassila while relaxing in the pool. I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but I also binged on Netflix with some late nights leading into early morning, sometimes finding myself asleep on the couch. For a long time, I hadn’t permitted myself to chill out for 2 weeks but my body and mind was telling me I needed to so I listened. Now I’m back into the swing of things. I must admit at first I did find it hard to put on my business hat, but the strategies I use that focused on increasing output helped. One that I always use is writing in my diary the top 3 things I want to achieve the next day. That way I wake up with an intention and get straight into it, I hate wasting time. If you are finding it a bit challenging getting back to business or still not clear on what 2020 will look like for you, reach out and let’s have a chat PM me and I will send you a link to my private calendar to book in a call. I look forward to staying connected and contributing to your business journey in 2020, whether that be through my emails, social media, online group coaching program or one to one coaching. Androulla
12.01.2022 3 Ways to Respond - how are you responding?
11.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks, trust is something I have had to work on. My eldest son turned 19 this week and had only got his licence a couple of weeks ago due to the COVID restrictions here in Melbourne. I thought him turning 18 and going out with his friends to clubs and bars was stressful enough, hoping he would make the right decisions out there in the ‘real world.’ Little did I realise that him getting his licence had me dealing with more concerns around trust. I found... myself worrying and hoping that he would be okay. I was hoping that he would make decisions that would keep him out of harm’s way. I would find myself constantly looking at the clock, staying up all night not having any peace until he got home. I concluded that over the 19 years of my husband and I bringing up our son, we would have hopefully instilled some values that he would follow through in his actions. I had to trust that as parents, we have done all we could to allow him to make his own decisions. Trust and values also apply in the workplace. We need to trust that by instilling values and leading by example, that others would embrace them and acknowledge the benefit of being guided by the values to make daily decisions.
10.01.2022 I use this saying to get me moving, build momentum and get things done. It's something simple that's so effective.
10.01.2022 FRUSTRATION = OPPORTUNITY Have you ever said, "there must be a better way of doing this." Right here is an opportunity for continuous improvement and innovation. Make a list of things that frustrate you in your business and prioritise them. Start with the simple ones that will be of great value to improve. Those that will take more time but would be a great opportunity look at it as a project and setting smaller tasks to complete within that project. I'm sure there is at least one thing that pops up in the business that frustrates you each time you do it, deal with that this week and notice the relief you feel once you improve the process.
09.01.2022 In this short video, I share the importance of planning and setting 2 types of targets.
08.01.2022 Merry Christmas!
08.01.2022 The topic of focus came up this week in many of my discussions. Whether it related to reviewing the product or service provided or the day to day operational tasks, there were things we identified that no longer added value or were of low value to the bottom line of the business and didn’t add additional value to the customer. Focus on fewer things rather than more and continue to improve on them. ... #bottomline #valueadd #processimprovment #review #smallbusiness #empowerbeyond #focus #businessgrowth #continuousimprovement
08.01.2022 This short video shows the importance of having VISIBILITY within your business. The one common statement that comes up when visibility happens is "I didn't realise." 07.01.2022 What problems does your business solve for your customers/clients?
06.01.2022 What do you know now several years into your business that you wish you knew earlier in the journey of starting? This post aims to share experiences so others can benefit and fast track success by learning from others. Coming out of a corporate job and starting a business was a different world for me. Have you heard the saying, "you don't know what you don't know." I knew I had the expertise to provide a service and what was involved in running a business, so I thought. I'l...l share a few of my own here: Networking and building relationships is a MUST Sales and Marketing, the difference between the two, platforms to use and techniques that help overcome the fear of the word "SALES." Offer your services when you know you can help (even if you have a fear of getting a NO, eventually you will get a YES with more to follow) Seek to learn daily and to implement what you learn within days Don't underestimate your ability and what you do know and the VALUE you add.
06.01.2022 Under the pump to meet deadlines before Christmas It’s a topic that’s been coming up this week. With just under 5 weeks to go before Christmas, everyone wants their jobs to be completed before then. For some who usually work 6 days a week, they are resorting to giving up their entire weekends to work.... Having taken on jobs and saying yes to work weeks ago not to let their clients down, they are now finding time is not on their side. In times like this, each day counts, and there’s minimal room for delays. It’s here where communication is essential with your client, your team, suppliers and anyone else that could impact on the job being completed before Christmas. No matter whether it’s good news or bad news, it needs to be communicated immediately so an action plan can be put in place ASAP. Everyone involved is working towards the same outcome, and working as a team can make what could right now seem as impossible be possible. #smallbusiness #deadline #teamwork #communication #actionplan
05.01.2022 This week the mapping out of processes was an activity I performed for a client which they found beneficial for several reasons: Better visualisation of the process It made it clear as to who was doing what as part of the process ... What tasks needed to be completed and by when Why each activity had to be completed within a particular timeframe What equipment, software, material and people needed to be resourced (whether internal or external to the business) Identifying areas that are a root cause to a problem (avoid band-aid fix and look to eliminating the problem) Identifying areas of opportunity for improvement (to save time and money and increase quality) Collaboration and input by those involved in the process (increases the acceptance of changes) Creating a standard operating procedure on that process (increases standardisation and ability to cross-train people) The process maps and standard operating procedures can continue to be updated as required. #processimprovement #processflow #processmapping #continuousimprovement #smallbusiness #empowerbeyond #procedures #visualisation
04.01.2022 In the beginning, we set standards in our business to ensure that things are done on time and of excellent quality to achieve the vision and goals that we set. However, over time we get busy, which is great news, but we start to notice the standards dropping. What wouldn’t have been acceptable in the past is now acceptable. We start to accept a new norm to keep up with the demand, but at some point, it will come at a cost. Whether that be the cost of rework, the cost of fewer sales, the cost of your brand. These costs may not be visible right now, but in due time if standards continue to drop the cost to the company will surface.
02.01.2022 A friendly reminder to have an EOFY checklist, so nothing gets missed. Here’s a simple way to maintain or even start creating a checklist to keep on top of the activities that need to be completed at EOFY.
02.01.2022 -- No second-guessing when you have a plan -- Last week I allocated a full day to do what I do with my clients, setting a plan for the business. I used this time to reflect on 2020 to assist me in making decisions for 2021. Upon reflection, there were many learnings and realisations using data, both financial and non-financial. I'm excited to continue implementing the things that worked and adjust those business activities that have opportunities for improvement.... It's a great feeling going into the new year, knowing what to focus on and the activities required to achieve the business's goals and vision. There is no second-guessing what needs to be done and there is no sitting back and waiting to see what turns up. Being consistent with actions is key and that's the same message I communicate to my clients. If you haven't yet done so, I highly recommend investing the time to plan for your business for 2021. Here is the approach I took: Started with the BIG goal for 2021 Broke that down into SMALLER goals (financial and non-financial) Identified the ACTIVITIES that need to happen consistently Set KPIs to monitor progress regularly If you are interested in knowing more about planning for your business, get in touch. Click the link below to download the simple one-page business plan for you to get you started.
