20.01.2022 As early childhood educators, we constantly fight the upward push to encourage school systems to tone down the 'academics' in the first years of primary education and tune in to the uniqueness of each child. This is a beautiful article, particularly for families to explore the simplistic Steiner principles which I certainly see value in as both a professional and parent! Thoughts?

20.01.2022 I was forunate enough to spend some time at Bush School at the lovely Woodrising Natural Learning Centre Inc last Friday. It was refreshing to hear the children's voices so well respected as they were supported to be self risk assessors in understanding the dynamics of the new flying fox. They suggested materials such as bags to create a weight and visual understanding of how and where to place their bodies when they would be on this themselves. The team engaged in bush schoo...l provided lots of opportunities for sustained shared thinking and learning through the simplicities of nature, very little man made materials were taken and only for the purpose of investigation I.e. Binoculars and magnifying glasses. They also provided appropriates spaces for managing routines such as hand washing with a camp shower, large picnic mats for meal times and sleep and rest in hammocks. What an experience... thank you to Bel, Leanne and the lovely team at Woodrising! N.B. These photographs were shared with permission of he service. See more

17.01.2022 It was so refreshing to see Maggie Dent get some air time on Weekend Sunrise this morning. She has a humourous wisdom which I was lucky to encounter at the Inspired EC Unwrapping conference a few weeks back. Her strategies particularly for raising boys are simple and practical for families!

15.01.2022 Being a big advocate for risky play in early childhood, it is refreshing to see this risk getting some positive attention in the media. Our children need exposure to risk to understand how to manage it for themselves thus building their risk competence!

15.01.2022 What an amazing yet exhausting day at the Inspired EC Unwrapping conference presenting on the "Impact of Interaction using the Abecedarian Approach" thank you Nic and Tash for inviting me to be a part of this event! Kate

12.01.2022 It's officially this month that I will be travelling to the historical Bologna, Italy to present at the European Early Childhood Research Conference alongside a fellow director and two University of Newcastle research mentors. The project in which the service I lead took part in, looked at the impacts of intentional teaching on children's risky play and the findings were astounding. On behalf of my research team who worked so hard to plan, conduct, analyse and present the research, I will now share our outcomes with the world. #proudleader #researchrunsthroughourveins #excitedtomeetsandseter #ACELPteamarefangirls

05.01.2022 An interesting read on the importance of uninterrupted or unstructured creativity. 'The early scribbles of young children is evidenced as the beginnings of children's literacy development.' LET THEM DRAW!
