There has also been a proposal for a 'Family Charter' which would block any legislation that would allow LGBTIQ+ couples to marry or adopt children. This now means that victims will no longer need court orders to be able to tell their stories. Did you know that the LGBTQIA+ community may face different or additional hardships in accessing legal, medical, law enforcement or other resources than other populations? Here are a few ways you can support survivors. Be genuine, listen and never make them feel as though they're feelings are not legitimate. Questions like "are you SURE you said no?" and "did you try to stop it?" do not offer help or support! Remember to be kind and open.

Amongst multiple allegations of sexual assault, many politicians are demonstrating their lack of care for victims, turning to the perfect victim myth to defend themselves and their colleagues. This silences many survivors who have been lawfully allowed to tell their stories in public in the past. 04.01.2022 Back in February, the Victorian government passed changes to the Judicial Proceeding Reports Act which was set to protect the privacy and safety of survivors of sexual assault who do not want to be identified. However, the Act, also known as gag laws, has also stripped survivors of their right to share their story even if they consent to do so. Should victims break this law, they are faced with a fine of up to $3300 and risk potential jail time. Womens rights activist Nina Funnell launched the #LetUsSpeak campaign in Victoria, to give victims of sexual violence the voice they deserve. Check out our latest blog in our bio to learn more!
