25.01.2022 Quick, simplified demo of the cardinal movements a baby must make to pass through the pelvis. A baby isnt a passive by-stander in its birth. Its working just as hard as mother, a tight team, dancing the most intimate and loving dance of their life. Movement and changing positions during labour will help baby find its way through the birth canal much easier. Walking in early labour, bouncing or rotating hips on a birth ball, slow dancing with your partner, and using rebozo t...echniques all help to open the very flexible pelvis of mother and give baby space to navigate. Birthing in an upright position also allows gravity to help baby descend and allows the tailbone to move out of the way- giving baby an extra 2-3cm of space. When mothers listen to their bodies and follow their instincts they often find themselves standing, squatting, lunging over a birth ball or chair, sitting over a toilet, leaning over a bed head, or on all fours on the ground. Avoid giving birth on your back. Its much more painful and baby has a lot less space to be born. Being on your back also increases your risk of ending up with an episiotomy or caesarean. Enjoy your birth dance with your baby. Move your body in a way that feels good, go inward and listen to what your baby is telling you, follow your instincts, and stay off your back. A more detailed video on this topic is up on my IGTV #lamazeaustralia #noosa
25.01.2022 The Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital is about to ban women from having the birth of their baby photographed- by dad, grandparent, midwife, birth photographer, Doula. Everyone. There is only one reason for this. So the misconduct performed by the hospital and its staff is not recorded. So that the human rights abuse, violence, coercion, bullying, verbal abuse that women are subject to during labour and birth is not recorded. It is every womans right to capture on film the... birth of her baby. Read Michelles piece on this below. There are many many reasons both photography is important. This outrageous attempt of one hospital to strip women of her right to this recording is maddening. Please sign and share this petition and lets hope the hospital administration takes heed. Because ultimately, its not their birth. It belongs only to the woman, her baby and their family. And if they want to take a few iPhone pics or have a birth photographer there, it will happen anyway. What evil person would throw out a father or Doula or photographer right at the time of birth because they have a camera in their hand? Get real. When will hospitals stop trying to control women and every single aspect of their birth?
23.01.2022 Still sleeping with my 3 year old!
23.01.2022 Synthetic oxytocin (pitocin/syntocinon) is not the same and doesnt act the same as the natural form of oxytocin. The synthetic form is used to induce labour and speed up labour and is also injected into a Mother (often without her being aware of giving informed consent) right after to birth to speed up delivery of the placenta. Understanding the risks of its use is important to giving your fully informed consent for or against its use.
22.01.2022 Love this!! Why do so many people feel breastfeeding a child into preschhool age is weird? Isnt it far weirder to give them milk from another animal? Think about how that milk is extracted, the processes it undergoes before it gets to your fridge, what that animal is fed, the conditions it lives in... you get my point.
20.01.2022 Why its important to let labour begin on its own (Lamaze Healthy Birth Practice #1).
19.01.2022 Tizzie Hall is no baby whisperer, nor is she pro-breastfeeding. Following her advice leads to parents who ignore their babies needs. It leads to early weaning. How about they get someone on who doesnt support leaving a baby to cry alone in a room, vomit on itself and still leave it. Her practices are dangerous and she should get ZERO AIRTIME. Please sign and share this petition.

17.01.2022 Anyone else also buck the norm of finding out your babies sex? So glad I didnt, for all the reasons listed below!
17.01.2022 THIS!!! Pregnant mammas our there- buy this book. Birth is not the time to be the obedient good-girl. Birth is the time to roar as a woman and take control and power over your life and you birth experience.
16.01.2022 I am in the minority. I am one of the few mothers in western society who has breastfed her children into toddlerhood. I have done this for a few reasons. ... Breastfeeding for me is one of the most fulfilling experiences of motherhood. It cultivates an unrivalled bond and attachment for a mother-baby dyad Furthermore, The World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding until 2 or beyond for an abundance of extraordinary reasons for babies/toddlers, but also for mothers, families, communities and the human species. Unfortunately though, this info isnt known by many because what takes precedence instead is when western civilisation frowns upon breastfeeding. As opposed of highlighting why to continue breastfeeding, its drummed into us why we should stop Whether its once a baby gets teeth (from around 4 months), can gesture his or her want to breastfeed (from around 6 months) or when they start walking (around 12 months), western culture has reached the conclusion that when it comes to breastfeeding beyond these certain developmental stages, never mind the evidence based benefits to continue, the answer is always a resounding bah bow So if you have breastfed into toddlerhood, are currently doing so or plan to in the future, I hand on my heart applaud you, for not letting social norms sway you into early weaning. But on those days you may be feeling deflated or unsupported in this judgy judgy world (and I promise you I have those days too) remember why you are doing this Straighten your crown and hold tight to the fact YOU are positively shaping the future and there is n.o.t.h.i.n.g bah bow about that Magical by @ellen.talitha.photography #662 #662movement #queensofthefuture
15.01.2022 It absolutely shreds my heart in two to write this as I remember my darling angel, crying for her mother as I sat next to her cot avoiding eye contact and patting her sobbing back. I was told to leave the room once more but I refused. I felt all of this; a stranger was in my home, telling me how to parent my daughter against my instincts and against what is biologically normal. In the end, I asked the nurse to leave. I held my beautiful girl until she fell asleep; still worked up from being very gently yet undoubtedly ignored.
10.01.2022 There is meant to be separation of religion and state but instead we have this radical Pentecostal loon taking us back to the dark ages where religion can be used to discriminate and prevent access to healthcare, medicine, schooling, accommodation. Sickening.
10.01.2022 Myths and lies told to pregnant women that are not based on scientific fact: - Your baby is overdue, you need an induction. - You have to have a blood glucose test. - You have to have an ultrasound.... - Your baby is too big you need an induction/caesarean. - Your baby is breech you need a caesarean. - Your baby is premature, the best place for your baby to be is in an incubator. - Having an induction is the same as a natural labour. - Having an induction is safe and risk free. - There are no risks from having an epidural. - Interventions like inductions or epidurals dont increase risk of caesarean. - You have twins, you need a caesarean . - You have to have a managed third stage. - Synthetic hormones (syntocinon/pitocin) are the same as the naturally releasing oxytocin hormone. - Drugs administered during labour do not cross the placenta and effect the baby. - Epidurals dont make your baby sluggish. - Breastfeeding isnt harder if youve had epidurals or synthetic oxytocin. - Speeding up labour is necessary if youre taking too long to dilate. - You must dilate 1cm an hour. - The only way to get pain relief is from an epidural. - An episiotomy is better than a natural tear. - You have to cut the cord straight away or your baby will get jaundice. - You had a caesarean so you have to have caesareans for following pregnancies. - Having a private obstetrician is the best form of care for low risk pregnancies. - YOU MUST! If anyone says you must they are lying to you. NOTHING during your pregnancy or labour is out of your control. You can say no to ANYTHING. You cannot be forced into anything you dont want, and you must be presented will all the facts, all the positives, negatives and alternatives to any test or procedure without bias, coercion or bullying. You have the right to informed refusal or informed consent. End of. The best thing you can do for yourself and your baby is to get excellent, evidence-based perinatal education that is independent (read: not a hospital class), that is going to provide you with the tools and strategies you need to have the birth that you want. Something that will give you the confidence to say; what are the risks if I wait; Id like another opinion; no I dont want that vaginal exam; I know from my own research you cant accurately tell the size of my baby with the ultrasound so I will decline thank you; book me for that induction but I will not be attending, my baby runs to its own schedule not yours. You get the idea. You have the power. Dont give it away at the most important time of you and your babys life. 09.01.2022 Independent midwifery is at crisis point. By the end of the year IMs may not be able to practice due to licensing issues. This means women will no longer have the option to birth at home. This will be a HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION if it occurs. It is a womans choice alone to decide where she gives birth, and for most women birthing at home is as safe, if not safer, than birthing in hospital. Decades of literature from across the world supports this. And having a chosen care prof...Continue reading
09.01.2022 Ultrasound scans are not compulsory and the benefits for each individual woman need to be weighed against the potential risks. This is a thorough article by Dr Sarah Buckley about the issue, a Brisbane doctor who had 4 pregnancies with zero ultrasounds. Studies on humans exposed to ultrasound have shown that possible adverse effects include premature ovulation, preterm labour or miscarriage, low birth weight, poorer condition at birth, perinatal death, dyslexia, delayed spee...ch development, and less right-handedness. Non right-handedness is, in other circumstances, seen as a marker of damage to the developing brain. One Australian study showed that babies exposed to 5 or more doppler ultrasounds were 30% more likely to develop intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR)- a condition that ultrasound is often used to detect. https://sarahbuckley.com/ultrasound-scans-cause-for-concern/
09.01.2022 What are your thoughts on this?
09.01.2022 Stop looking at the clock and watch your baby instead.
09.01.2022 6 weeks old on the left, 30 weeks old on the right. Its been 6 months. Six months since I was allowed to breastfeed my son. Six months of a hard battle against... CANCER, getting poisoned with chemo that tainted my breastmilk and prevented me from nursing my infant son. Six months of pumping every few hours and dumping every single ounce of it all down the drain, just so I could keep my supply up, in hopes of eventually being allowed to nurse my baby again. Six months of having a dear, sweet, generous friend (Bec Nikodem) come to my house 1-2 times a week to latch my son, just so he would remember HOW to breastfeed again when I was able. Well, here we are, I had my last chemo session in January and its been 35 days post-chemo. My breastmilk no longer contains any remnants of chemo in it, and last night I was able to BREASTFEED MY SON AGAIN!!!! Its been a long road, but I wanted to share my journey publicly in hopes that it can be shared and might inspire others in some small way. God is GOOD. The power or prayer is REAL. #normalizebreastfeeding #fcancer #breastfeeding **Photo credit for image on the left: @RHusbandsPhotography ** Rita Husbands
09.01.2022 Breathtaking Why birth photography is so important, totally priceless and TOTALLY not ok for hospitals to ban/control. This is every parents right!
08.01.2022 Catacholamines are the fight-or-flight hormones and they have a very important role to play in keeping labour and birth safe and healthy for mum and baby. But if these stress hormones are elevated at the wrong time during labour, things can go sideways. Learn about what catacholamines do, and how to help them flow optimally. A few things mentioned in the video for you to do further research: - the Ferguson reflex... - the fetal ejection reflex - the work of Dr Sarah Buckley (Hormonal Physiology of Childbearing: Evidence and Implications for Women, Babies and Maternity Care and Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering (Also, I know I often pronounce catacholamines wrong, terrible habit. Its cat-a-chol-a-meens )
06.01.2022 I was "allowed" to birth in the water. . I was "given" the ok to continue as I was. . They "let me go" another hour before further checks.... . There is so much control over the woman and her birth to the point where some don't even realise they have a choice. . You can say NO. . You can ask questions. . You can chose a different option. . You can ask for privacy. . You can trust yourself and your instincts. . You DO have the power to be in control, don't "let" anyone else tell you otherwise! . by the talent @laceybarrattphotography See more
05.01.2022 "A meta-analysis of more than 24,000 births in multiple countries found lower rates of severe laceration, episiotomy and cesarean section with planned home birt...hs compared to planned hospital births. Maternal outcomes are likely better at home because the possibility of unnecessary interventions is removed, although those interventions can still be obtained efficiently through transfer to a hospital. There is also evidence from Britain that there are fewer maternal complications, like postpartum hemorrhage, when women give birth at home. Cochrane, a trusted global network of health researchers, distilled these factors to what is most important: the overall safety of home birth is comparable to that of hospital birth for healthy patients assisted by experienced midwives" See more
05.01.2022 Oh god there is a dad here. I ask if hes lost. He tells me that hes a proud co-sleeper. This is outrageous. Men dont co-sleep. Men are meant to want their marital bed back. Does he not know that co-sleeping will make him cheat, buy a Ferrari and ride off into the sunset with his secretary Janis? He tells me that co-sleeping helped him bond with his babies and he loves that the whole family is together at night. He loves that his wife gets rest and he feels like his role is as vital as hers. Co-sleeping is a choice hes made with his wife and theyre really happy with it.

04.01.2022 YOU CAN DO BIG THINGS! Like push a 14 lb 7 oz baby out naturally with NO VAGINAL TEARING! 4 hours of labor, 15 mins of pushing. Rockstar You rock Co...astal Midwifery! A few days ago I had the pleasure of attending the beautiful HOME BIRTH of this BIG man. His mama saw a Licensed midwife throughout her pregnancy and prepared physically and emotionally for the birth of her second baby. During her 4 hour long labor she rocked, walked and danced her baby down, she instinctively pushed in the standing position for 15 mins and delivered all..... are you ready for it.... 14 lbs 7oz of him! She was also able to deliver this chunky baby with no tears. After doing their research this family chose a midwife to guide them through their pregnancy and birth and were able to have an amazing experience in the comfort of their own home. This baby stayed with his mama on her chest breastfed within the first hour. Mama and baby are doing amazing. People are capable of delivering their baby, even when they are big! Way to go mama! 03.01.2022 When professionals tell you that there are no published studies showing there is proof of harm in training babies to sleep by leaving them to cry, they are talk...ing crap. To my knowledge, there are no published studies proving that cigarettes cause lung cancer, even though there is plenty of evidence. When they tell you this is just a protest cry or this is a stress release cry they are talking crap. Forget the fancy pants jargon YOU know YOUR baby, if he sounds distraught to you, he is. Baby tamers who tell you to ignore vomit or you will be rewarding the baby for this behaviour are talking crap too. Vomiting is a stress response to being left to cry. Would you like to be left all alone in a pool of vomit? If you leave an eight week old baby unattended all night how will you know he hasnt choked on his vomit? Or what if he shits himself? Does he get to lie in it stuck to his bum all night because you mustnt go in until morning? https://www.pinkymckay.com/baby-sleep-trainers-do-you-have/
02.01.2022 Why a religious fanatic should not be head of state. Discrimination under the guise of religious beliefs will soon be ok.
01.01.2022 Babies are NOT meant to sleep through the night! NOT NOT NOT! It isnt until the 2nd or 3rd year that a child will normally sleep the entire night. And sleeping through the night actually means a 5 hour stretch, not 8-10. Babies wake for very important reasons; - because they need connection. Touch and connection is an essential nutrient for growth and development. Dont give it out in spades during the day and deny your baby at night. He doesnt know what the time is. He ju...st needs you. - because they need breast milk. Babies dont adhere to your schedule of when it should eat/drink. Breast milk is far more than that. Read up on it if you dont understand the importance of night feeds. - waking through the night is protective against SIDS. They are neurologically designed to wake frequently because a deep sleep is one they may not be able to rouse themselves from. Stop with the awful and harmful sleep training practices and lean in to the reality that parenting in the first few years is bloody hard, tiring and thankless. It passes though and you and your baby will thrive, I promise. https://www.sbs.com.au//baby-wont-sleep-through-night-your
01.01.2022 There is no such thing as extended breastfeeding, it's simply just breastfeeding. . Here I am feeding my squirmy, 3 year old.
