24.01.2022 This week at Empowering Chicks HQ we finished reading the book A Woman Of Firsts the life story of Edna Adan Ismail. Edna who is a nurse is Somalilands former First Lady and Foreign Minister. She has been labeled the Muslim Mother Teresa. In 1998 she took on the unbelievable challenge of building a maternity hospital in her home town of Hargeisa. Edna has saved the lives of untold numbers of women and children and is a leading example of how women can save the world. If you read one book this year please make sure it is this one. It will leave you in awe of what one woman is capable of !!

14.01.2022 This week my beautiful sister @amy_garland brought me this for my birthday . I realised it is an replica of a world war 2 propaganda poster. I dont know about you but I feel at the moment a bit like we are at war. I see people fighting over toilet paper , a lot of the supermarket shelves are looking very bare as people are stocking piling other grocery items and established business/brands that we know and trust are going under. My hope is for everyone to stop and take a breath to consider each other. Lets think about how we can work together to restore the magic back to Australia and come out the other end of this tragedy with a sense of pride.

11.01.2022 Tomorrow is the day we celebrate how far we have come in the campaign to champion womens equality! I recently joined a group called @soroptimistfremantle. The Fremantle club was founded in 1953 and has been working tirelessly behind the scenes in our community to improve the lives of women and girls. The organisation has over 90,000 volunteering members spread throughout 3,000 clubs in 124 countries and here are 83 clubs here in Australia. I have great admiration for these women who work in unison as modern day Mother Teresas volunteering their time and energy to make our world a better place. 07.01.2022 In this moment of time we are all experiencing unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety. So many things are changing daily and are out of our control. As I talk to people I am in awe of every ones capacity to try and do their bit. I have a friend who has set up a neighbour hood chat group on Facebook so people can share supplies and communicate with each other, another friend their boss brought toilet rolls for all the staff, another one of my friends (a nurse) said someo...ne from the public brought chocolates in for the medical staff. People have been messaging me through social media asking if there is anyway they can assist people in need. These are just some of the examples of the kind deeds people are doing to make everyones lives a little bit more manageable. 02.01.2022 The women of Japan just had a big win . You see for working women in Japan it was a requisite that they wear sky high heels to work. After a long day at work Yumi Ishikawa came home one evening to bleeding toes. After being sick of the pain from wearing heels she launched the #kutoo hashtag, which references the Japanese words for shoes and pain. Her tweet went viral, spurring other Japanese women to share their disdain for gender biased dress codes. Ishikawa launched a petition against forced heel-wearing to the Ministry of Health, amassing more than 20,000 signatures. The dress code was over turned and women are now able to wear what ever they feel comfortable it @traumfrollein
