19.01.2022 Two hours of gaming = snorting one line of cocaine as far as the effect it has on the brain. This is according to world renouned expert, speaker, author and teacher on the ‘Dark side of technology’ Brad Huddleston. I first saw him present on this while I was attending PD whilst working helping troubled kids in schools. I have written and presented my own workshops for parents and students on social media addiction and balance and what signs to watch out for and this is a st...at that shocks parents and students. Sure social media platforms have a lot of positives to offer but to learn more about how web developers program and hijack our minds particularly our young people check out the new NETFLIX documentary called ‘Social Phenomenon’. Everyone who watches will be shocked and their eyes opened about just how negatively impactful it is on peoples self perception and MentalHealth. A MUST watch for all PARENTS. #socialmedia #people #experimentation #addiction #human #behaviour #mentalhealth #wellbeing

15.01.2022 On the day I got married I was five years sober and yet still very messed up emotionally. On my wedding night we had a fight and I slept in the spare room of the hotel. We had been together 22 months when we were married. My husband had no understanding of what living with someone battling addictions was like. I had come along way but was still flanked with much anger, shame, fear and jealousy. We continued to fight every day for the first year and didn’t know if we could s...tay together. He kept believing I would change and I did. We have both had to meet in the middle on every single area of life. We couldn’t be more opposite and have come from totally different backgrounds. When our children were young I read a book called ‘The five Love Languages. You guessed it ours are totally opposite. That book has played a key role in keeping our marriage together for the past 33 years. My hubby is still trying to work me and my complex nature out. Thankfully I am still sober. Today I no longer battle shame or jealousy and I have great strategies in place when I feel overwhelmed with anger or fear. Together we have been able to be an example of what HOPE under pressure looks like. Living life sober for me will always be ‘one day at a time’. #marriage #inspiration

14.01.2022 #RUOKDay #worldsuicidepreventionday It ain’t we to speak it’s also brave to cry. Someone can seem to be very much okay but then the next minute may not be. Than...k goodness the tide is changing and culture is shifting. Men’s mental health is of utmost importance to me. As I have seen in my own dad’s life, my uncle and many men close to me, for many different reasons the journey of mental health can spiral downhill very quickly and when it does it is emperative to have people around who are caring and understanding. When someone dives down into the place of desperation the cognitive reasoning is often gone to be able to make rational decisions and they can be stuck in their own irrational mindset. When we connect with others we can help eachother problem solve, especially in those vital moments where dangerous snap decisions can be made. So while we all remember RUOK today, let’s think about tommorow, next week and the months to come in order to help ourselves and others live a mentally healthy life. Connection saves lives. 13.01.2022 I recently received this reference from a young guy I was counselling for a few months over the period of a year. When he first came to me he was feeling suicidal and hopeless and struggling to find sense and direction for so many areas and I am so glad I was able to help him immensely find HOPE and healing for his life. It’s stories like these that make me love my work so much. He is a true champion and has gone on to find a great purpose and much happiness. I will be fo...rever grateful to Kerrie, she helped me turn my life around in some of my darkest days. Session by session she taught me the skills and knowledge I needed to cope with my situation and learn to trust again. I still refer to this knowledge on a regular basis as it also applies to daily life. Without her help I fear I would still be in the same dark place I was rather than emanating positivity and kindness. If I am ever in need, I know I can count on Kerrie to give me guidance in future. 11.01.2022 The day I let go of Shame, I was free. Rape can’t take that away from me. Confronting YES! Hard to talk about YES! But with so many people silently suffering with shame as a result of sexual assault and abuse, I can’t be silent. ... I was someones daughter. Someones sister. Maybe you are someones father or someones son. Today I read someones definition of shame. ‘Shame makes us leave safe places. It breaks the rhythms we’ve established with each-other. It makes us silent. It strips the few words we might have. It mutes our life and our love. Shame caused me to feel invisible and to be voiceless for a long time. To feel unworthy of peoples love or attention. But today I speak out so that others may know, that they too can heal. And today I tell my stories and the stories of others, so that people will know there is HOPE. #mentalhealth #love #wellbeing #trauma #healing #survivor #recovery

11.01.2022 Choosing your childs school Is something that weighs heavily on a parents mind. Here is some helpful information on what schools have been ranked the highest in the Sunshjne Coast area. 02.01.2022 The snapshot of an alcoholic! The night started out like any other. I was 16. I was just going to have a couple of drinks. ... I couldn’t socialise sober so I had a couple of pills beforehand just to get out before I started drinking. At sometime that night the personality change kicked in. One minute I was the shy placid introverted girl but after a couple of drinks I became the aggressive girl and things quickly escalated. I was over the point of no control. I had arrived with my boyfriend to the nightclub but don’t know what happened after that. I remember an argument with two women in the toilet and then fleeing on foot through the dangerous back streets of inner Sydney. It was about 12pm when a car full of guys pulled up and tried to drag me in. Just one of the many close calls I endured. Someone saved my life that night. For an alcoholic, one drink is too many and 100 is not enough. If you’re reading this and identify, know that there is HOPE for recovery and HOPE for a greater life after addiction. Don’t do life alone.
