19.01.2022 Today is day 18 for #septtextilelove and the @seam_collective prompt is DISCIPLINE. I like the discipline of making art daily to improve techniques and to exp...eriment with the new . Every year , I look forward to #the100dayproject because it not only challenges oneself to the discipline of daily art practice but also of posting on social media as a daily check in. Here are some of the 100 stitched collaged pins with accompanying haiku which I completed this year. #collage #discipline #dailypractice #textileart #empresswu #wilmasimmons See more

18.01.2022 Day 21 #septtextilelove @seam_collective - SUSTAINABILITY. It is good to be reminded that eco dyeing , the use of plants instead of petroleum based colourants,... is a more sustainable approach to reduce the impact of the polluting textile industry . I have just had two days of learning more about sustainable practice with lovely results in a workshop with Anne Leon @timelesstextiles . #ecodye #sustainability #plants #empresswu #wilmasimmons @ Lambton, New South Wales, Australia See more

16.01.2022 ‘Discoveries’ is today’s prompt for the monthly challenge by @seam_collective #septtextilelove ... I was quite a way on my textile art journey when I discovered... that stitching can have a voice - to express political opinion and comment on social justice issues . These images are from my corset series, showing respect to generations of women who made a positive impact in the struggle for women’s equality. #corset #womensrights #empowerment #stitching #textileart #empresswu #wilmasimmons #socialjustice See more

16.01.2022 Day 13 #septtextilelove - the prompt from the @seam_collective for today is ‘temporary/permanent . I often try to capture a moment in time and interpret it so ...that the experience becomes a somewhat permanent record ( for as long as stitched fabric will last) . I practise a lot but not sure I can really portray that transient ‘startled’ moment when birds are disturbed by humans or other animals in the garden ... here are moments of magpies, rainbow lorikeets and pigeons being interrupted and flying off in a flurry of noise and movement. #textileart #movement #capturedmoment #birds #stitching #empresswu #wilmasimmons @ Lambton, New South Wales, Australia See more

15.01.2022 Day 19 #septtextilelove @seam_collective - LOCKDOWN, a prompt for the times . Having a significant birthday during lockdown may have affected the style of celeb...ration, but my beautiful family still surprised me with this amazing quilt, with each panel handmade by a family member (four generations) - truly a textile treasure made with love! #family #stitching #surfacedecoration #quilt #quilting #collaboration #birthday #empresswu #wilmasimmons See more

15.01.2022 Today’s prompt for #septtextilelove @seam_collective Day 15 is CONSIDERED. If anything, I ‘overthink’ decisions related to artwork and I try often to work mor...e intuitively and not consider too much the outcome. However, recently, when a class exercise was to stitch with plastic , I considered this idea for a long time ... understanding that using plastic as a material is far better than it being disposed of carelessly into the environment , but , on the other hand, is the use and elevation of plastic as a ‘thread’ encouraging and condoning companies / supermarkets to continue to over package? Such a dilemma to consider ... eventually , after weeks of consideration, I made a small stitching using outer packaging from paper towel and toilet rolls as a memory of COVID-19 times . #considerenvironment #packaging #waste #stitching #empresswu #wilmasimmons See more

14.01.2022 Day 24 #septtextilelove - @seam_collective prompt for today is UNCERTAINTY.... I approach every art work with uncertainty and like life in general, the only thi...ng one can be certain of is change itself . This artwork I made at the end of last year now seems even more relevant in Covid times as a statement of uncertainty - unpredictability, undetermined direction and ambiguous meaning . #mixedmedia #textileart #scrolls #markmaking #empresswu #wilmasimmons @ Lambton, New South Wales, Australia See more

13.01.2022 ‘Fibre’ is today’s 14th prompt for #septtextilelove @seam_collective ... Flashback- Fibre is now my ‘essential art ingredient’ but it wasn’t always so . About ...15 years ago when I was engrossed in making jewellery and working with contemporary clays and glass beads , fibre and textiles crept up on me and became a new passion. These three art dolls ( Three Wise Women) started this wonder- filled journey of exploring fibre and textile art. #artdoll #artdolls0nly #fibre #textileart #empresswu #wilmasimmons See more

10.01.2022 Structure - day 12 theme for #septtextilelove, @seam_collective. Arranging various elements is always a consideration in an art work and often provides t...he most fun and simultaneously the most challenges!
