Or do you interact with residents, local groups or community service organisations in these neighbourhoods? If you answered Yes! then please spread the word about MAGNETIC PLACES grants. The grants open on 20 August for artistic projects that highlight a public space in any of thes...e 12 neighbourhoods and offers local people creative opportunities to connect with each other. Were also offering a free grant writing workshop on Friday 21 August, 10am-2pm for people who would like to apply (RSVP to me for more details). Share the news through your networks about this excellent funding opportunity: to local groups, artists, community service providers, arts organisations and others. 25.01.2022 A brilliant response to arts-funding cuts by one of the worlds theatre elders: an illuminating read.
25.01.2022 Remember those suitcases from Shoe-Horn Sonata? We now have some for sale... Click to find out more and make your bid!
23.01.2022 Civilian deaths and casualties. Rarely calculated or remembered compared to military deaths, and the purpose behind John Mistos "The Shoe-Horn Sonata" as a memorial. The cost of war is simply staggering. This brilliant animation is just shy of 17 minutes. We recommend you take time to share it and to discuss: and it is essential viewing. Why we need to find other solutions to our disputes than pride, bombs, guns or knives.
22.01.2022 Emu Heights Theatre Company friends: one of our past cast members, Wayne Guy, is going through a rough patch and your help is welcomed. If youre able to support Wayne please click the link to read his story and help as much as you can. The fundraising page will be open the rest of the year, so if you cant donate today, please keep Wayne in mind over the coming months. Feel free to share wide and often. Thank you!... 19.01.2022 WHATS ON AROUND THE WEST: ONE DAY FOR PEACE In one of the most multicultural cities in the world, "One Day for Peace" takes us on a journey across the suburbs of Western Sydney to ask: What do you believe? This multi-faith documentary combines everyday ritual with reflections on humanity, impermanence and social justice. An epic undertaking, One Day For Peace wrestles with some big (and not so big) questions inside homes, prayer houses and from the back seat of a taxi. One Day For Peace will be screened in outdoor and public locations across Western Sydney from 14 27 September.
18.01.2022 A MAJOR opportunity for Western Sydney based artists who have an idea they want to get up on the stage but need the people & resources to make it happen. The recently announced WESTERN SYDNEY ARTS FELLOWSHIP is a $50,000 award offered by the NSW Government to enable an artist or arts/cultural worker from Western Sydney (Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Holroyd, The Hills, Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith and Wollondilly) to undertake a self-directed program of professional development. Applications are due in just two weeks - 14 September - so nows the time to act: read on for info, get your idea and team together and apply ASAP!
16.01.2022 Last Saturday we said our final farewells to the Set and Props stored for Emu Heights Theatre as we bumped them out of our storage garages at Penrith Lock-Up Storage. Thankfully we were able to send all our set-pieces and materials to people who will get the most out of it: all items were donated to Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School in Emu Plains. We are delighted that the legacy of Emu Heights Theatre will continue with bright young creatives in the region: we... wish the students and teachers at Nepean many years of usage out of them! Our huge thanks go out to Amanda Rudolf, Anthony Vassallo and to all at Nepean CAPA HS for finding a home for our wealth of set-pieces; to Charlie, Ben and the team at Penrith Lock-Up Storage for being a major sponsor of EHTC and the above and beyond support you provided over the years; and to Paul Slack, Michael Fernandez, Grant Brett and Anthony Vassallo for your mega-strength and edurance in moving the (often incredibly heavy!) set-pieces); and to everyone who designed, constructed, used and gave beautiful feedback for the set-pieces that brought out plays to life over our five years, and proving just what is possible with brilliant minds working togethr in the West.
16.01.2022 EHTC needs YOU: become a member and make your voice heard about the way ahead for Emu Heights Theatre Company at the Annual General Meeting this August!
14.01.2022 Happy New Year! I'm proud to say an actress from Emu Heights Theatre Company's "The Crucible", the talented Lauren Grimson, is about to be seen in a brand new Aussie film - and we're trying to get it screened here in Penrith! The film, "The Legend of Ben Hall", is based on the true story of the last nine months of the infamous Australian bushranger Ben Hall and his gang. This is the first time his little-known story has been brought to the screen! We're gathering our own gan...g together to support Lauren and the film at Penrith Hoyts on Monday 23 January for a fun night out on the town... but here's the catch: the screening can only go ahead if at least 57 more tickets are sold before 10am tomorrow (Friday 13 January). Click on the link below for the details. Book a ticket and help support our artists and film industry - book two tickets and bring a date - or book for your own gang, and make a night of it right here in Penrith! Spread the word and hope to see you here, cheers!

11.01.2022 In tandem with the previous post: growing disparity and restrictions on Arts & Cultural support from the top is actually bringing people together to fight for equality. Grab a cuppa and soak these up.

08.01.2022 Today is Emu Heights Theatre Companys 5th Birthday! Were taking a moment to celebrate the achievements of our small but determined theatre company with a montage of many of the people and presentations EHTC has been able to bring to life. Our productions have also been a wonderful opportunity for the Wests audiences to engage with some powerful very real human stories affecting us today: ... * Hamlet and Ophelias tragic tale, of their attempts to grow into morally-centred adults in an immoral world, in Shakespeares Hamlet; * the fear and madness that gripped the town of Salem against a false menace, causing its people to turn on their own, in Arthur Millers The Crucible; * the charming yet vacuous privileged class in Venice clashing with misrepresented and mistreated underclass represented by Shylock the Jew, in Shakespeares The Merchant of Venice; * and the beautiful, powerful Australian story of two women confronting their past as Prisoners of War and the powers that be that kept their legacy a secret from the public, in John Mistos The Shoe-Horn Sonata, the play that bookended our 5 years worth of productions. For fans of statistics, heres a life by numbers: * 7 full-scale theatre productions presented at the Joan; * 3 sets of Shakespeare Seminars taken to schools around Western Sydney and beyond; dozens of generous and enthusiastic sponsors who have shown their belief in our mission through their support; * scores of talented professional artists who have worked with us over the years; over 5,000 engaged students and teachers from Greater Western Sydney and beyond who have joined us at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre to see the plays they have been reading about; * hundreds more students have connected with these plays through our Seminars; the hundreds of public-audience members whove also shared in both our stories and the belief that theatre is a means for connection and force for change, and that Penrith deserves its own theatre company to share these stories with its community. Special thanks to all the photographers whove captured these moments from across the years. We hope you enjoy this look back!

06.01.2022 Recalibrating Culture - Survey Call Out Western Sydney University (WSU) has created the following survey aiming to provide a deeper understanding of the working lives of artists/cultural workers in Greater Western Sydney. It will take about 30 minutes to complete: the more who complete it, the better a picture of the regions support for the arts and what arts development is needed and what priorities for WSU to focus on. The research is being carried out by the Institute fo...r Culture and Society at the University, and completed surveys will be collected and stored at the WSU in secure conditions according to university guidelines. If you live and/or work in this area, take part in the Recalibrating Culture survey to support this research. The survey closes Friday 16 October.
