12.01.2022 EMU PLAINS LIONS say "LEST WE FORGET"

12.01.2022 FRIEND OF EMU PLAINS LIONS Mark Nielsen Supporting each other in our changing World.... I feel as though through the pandemic, there has been a greater understanding as what truly matters in our lives. Many people may be coming to this understanding for the first time in some ways. At the beginning, the uncertainty seemed to have everyone bracing for the worst. Hoarding toilet paper and stockpiling groceries. Cancelling holidays, flights and important events. We were all told to bunker down for the long haul without knowing what the long haul would involve, or when it might end. There has never been a more important time to reach out and check in on people in our life, especially those who may be facing unemployment, people who are at-risk, or who may be older or immobile. Technology and connecting with your family and friends digitally, via phone, social media can help us stay positive and your loved ones continue to feel attached and supported. I have volunteered at Mama Lanas for a few years now which I enjoy doing. Dad now comes along each Friday night with me and now sees how rewarding it is. More and more people are coming on Friday nights as the pandemic goes on. They remain so positive and are so inspiring. With everything 2020 has thrown at so far it would be easy to forget that charities still need our support probably more now than ever. On Thursday August 27 2020 the college is having supporters day. Students at the College will bring a gold coin donation for our compassion children. We are encouraged to wear clothes that support our favourite football team or favourite TV show or someone you feel you want to support. I am supporting the medical professionals that are working on the front line each day to keep us all safe everyday. Stay healthy and focus on eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and doing some regular physical activity, whether thats going for a walk around your garden. The current situation is challenging, but we live in an incredible country and as long as we keep supporting each other we will get through this time of uncertainty in our lives. Supporters day at the College (Penrith Anglican)

08.01.2022 Australian Lions Childrens Mobility Foundation Written by Lion G.L.English ALCMF Chairman 201N5 Fitting of a walker for Eyad... Eyad is a six-year-old boy from Riverwood who needed a Crocodile walker at a cost of $2,682.97. Eyad is currently using a walker funded by Lions Clubs in the Sydney area in 2017 but has grown and his current walking frame is now too small for him to walk safely. Eyad started school in 2020 and he will be able to use the frame in the classroom & in the playground with his peers. Without the upgraded frame he will be unable to walk by himself & needs to crawl on the floor for mobility. Because of this wonderful gift his parents & carers will no longer need to support him to enable him to walk. Eyad was fitted with his walker on 13 July 2020 at the at Cerebral Palsy Alliance Penshurst. His walker was funded by the Lions Clubs of Lugarno, Kogarah and EMU PLAINS. His fitting was attended by Lion Greg English Chairman ALCMF District 201N5 and Lion Rod Bowman , Lugarno Clubs Mobility Chairman. Eyad was a keen boy who took to his walker with gusto it did not take him much time to get the hang of his new walker and then he was off never to look back. Because of the generosity of Lions Avery can now be self-sufficient and is able to walk in the community and play in the local park with his brother without needing support from an adult. The family were very appreciative of the support of the Lions in Sydney and wished to thank everyone for their support.
