21.01.2022 Local fire brigades have recently experienced a lot of people contacting our members or the Shire directly to report fires or smoke. We would like to remind eve...ryone that ALL fires and smoke sightings should be reported to 000. Q. What if its only small fire? A. All fires or smoke sightings are considered emergencies, please call 000. Q. But I know someone in the fire brigade, won’t a direct call to them be faster? A. No. We rely on our communications centre to dispatch our volunteers, if they haven’t received a 000 call then we need to ring them ourselves, which takes more time. Q. What if it’s a controlled burn? A. If you are sure that a fire is a controlled burn, then there is no need to call 000. However, if you’re not sure, or the fire seems to be getting out of control its best to call 000 so we can come and check it out. Q. What if I saw smoke but there’s no fire? A. Great! We would much rather come and check it out than leave it until it’s too late. There’s no charge or penalties for our attendance, and the 000 operators are really friendly! If in doubt, call 000!
