20.01.2022 The coastline between Newcastle and Sydney belongs to the people, not to oil and gas companies. We are calling for PEP 11 to be scrapped and the coastline perma...nently protected from offshore oil and gas. We want swell on the horizon, not gas rigs. #PEPOFF! #nomoredrillingoffshore #drillingiskilling
18.01.2022 Surfers and ocean lovers around Australia, we're calling on you to continue spreading the #stoppep11 message! (If you're a Surfrider Foundation member or branch... please share this video in your story, we're counting on you!) This Monday a motion was brought before parliament with 8 federal MPs standing up in support of the motion to #stoppep11. It's time to STOP PEP-11 & here's what you can do. PETROLEUM EXPLORATION PERMIT 11 is a licence for oil & gas exploration in our Sydney Basin due to expire in February 2021 that’s right, just off our beaches between Manly and Newcastle! Mining companies ADVENT Energy, BPH & Bounty Oil & Gas are now pushing for NOPTA (National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator) to approve a licence extension and change the title to allow drilling for oil & gas offshore. To add to this, there’s a motion before federal parliament to stop PEP11, which means a decision on the issue could be imminent, so we need to make some noise on this!! Join our #stopPEP11 social media campaign and stand with us in telling politicians that our communities will not let this incredible coastline we call home be put at risk and strongly oppose the industrialisation of our oceans. We have three actions you can take right here on Instagram, links are available in our bio. Using our AR-Filter, head to your local beach or a headland, take a photo and tag. #stopPEP11 @keithpittmp @johnbarilaro and @your local Federal MP. A huge shout out must go out to @Save Our Coast / Stop Seismic Testing for their ongoing efforts. And a thank you to so many people who have shared the message far and wide thank you to you all for your incredible contributions this past week.
17.01.2022 Ok All - It’s time to get together at Killalea and the Farm to say no means NO ! And further to that Reflections can no longer be trusted in the role of Park T...rust Managers. It’s time for Killalea State Park to go back to a Community based trust as the current professional trust held by Reflections Holiday Parks has failed to satisfy community expectations in this role and in particular - The recent development proposal. The Killalea State Park Plan of Management (1998) states that its primary role is to: Provide for a variety of recreation and nature study opportunities, primarily day use, but with some camping and low key accommodation, consistent with protection and enhancement of natural, cultural and scenic values. The proposed development is not consistent with this role. The NSR Board supports opposition to the present proposal. Supported By Surfrider Foundation Australia. Chris Homer - Chair Killalea National Surfing Reserve Committee Save The Farm, no tourist development for Killalea State Park group
15.01.2022 There's some great people involved with the Surfrider Foundation Australia and has been since it's inception. Thank you all! Stoked to have Seano & Damo 'officially' on board now - at the helm. Time for next level coastal activism with these great blokes, you and I. Good onya's! Craig www.surfrider.org.au
15.01.2022 Vote for SURFRIDER! Votes close on 31st March so please vote now to help us raise funds for our projects.
14.01.2022 Keep an eye out for an article in The Age tomorrow about the fight for Bells, the election and Maurice
13.01.2022 As thousands of WA people plan trips to the Ningaloo area many of you will also have seen the concerning media in the last few days which makes crystal clear th...e intent of the oil and gas industry to further encroach on the Ningaloo-Exmouth Gulf area. It is startling to learn the Federal Government has announced vast areas along the Ningaloo World Heritage area for potential oil and gas exploration. The areas are really close to Ningaloo and if released to industry, oil rigs would be a few km from the Ningaloo World Heritage area - as close as the Cottesloe to Rottnest swim! Oil and gas here would mean deafening underwater noise impacting whales, dolphins, turtles and fish, and the risk of oil spills or rig blowouts. Help us draw a line in the sand, and Protect Ningaloo! Please consider adding your name to this letter: https://www.protectningaloo.org.au/stop-industrialisation/
13.01.2022 It's wild out there today along the east coast! We're wondering how the proposed PEP11 oil & gas rigs will cope... If disasters like the Montaro oil spill can ...occur in a mill pond like the Timor Sea (2009), devastating the livelihoods of Timorese fishermen and seaweed farmers; um...what hope do amateurs like ASSET Energy have to contain an accident occurring during a pissed off East Coast Low in the Sydney Basin? A Federal Government decision to drill offshore between Sydney and Newcastle will impact our coastlines for generations to come. It's time to speak out to stop new oil & gas rigs off our coast. CANCEL Petroleum Permit 11! Please Contact your MP's today. Jason Falinski MP [email protected] Shop 1 1238 Pittwater Rd Narrabeen NSW 2101 OR Keith Pitt MP Minister For Mining and Resources [email protected] PO Box 535 Bundaberg QLD 4670 Keith doesn't live anywhere near the proposed site, but he is ultimately responsible for the decision to drill - so make sure you let him know too!! **Words adapted from a post by the wonderful folk at Treading Lightly Inc #stoppep11 #oilspoils #nofossilfools #savesydneybasin #DrillingIsKilling Surfrider Foundation Australia
13.01.2022 The original ideas to put an estimated 800M2+ of concrete on the beach further out than this, was just insane. Thank Huey that the council listened to their constituents and decided to revise the plans for South Newy. Surfrider Australia and the rest of the country's coastal management fraternity are looking forward to seeing the updated engineering plans.

05.01.2022 Stockton copping it again. Save Stockton Beach
04.01.2022 The City of Newcastle regularly employs contractors to prepare reports on the erosion problems at Stockton. While the latest ones such as Bluecoast in 2020 are ...professional and comprehensive, they are very long, detailed and technical. They also tend to be factual without providing much simple comment on the causes of the erosion problem. In the coming days I will share a series of maps and short explanations of the problem. These maps and explanations were prepared by Ron Boyd on behalf of the Stockton Community Liaison Group. The easiest way to understand Stockton beach erosion is to contrast the situation before and after the breakwaters were built, and before and after the channel dredging took place. The Stockton Community Liaison Group will submit these models to City of Newcastle so we can refer to our own interpretation of the erosion problem and have it available for the next round of planning for the North Stockton Coastal Management Program starting in February. That way we can present our own position, and not just repond to what is provided to us by CN. Discussion and comments are welcome.
02.01.2022 Spot X in form last week. All southern Australian ecosystems and surfbreaks were in danger recently from the unacceptable risk of drilling for oil.., until we all Fought for the Bight. Good onya!
01.01.2022 #stoppep11 The relentless stupidity of those in power and their continuing threats to our environment are unacceptable and gotta stop, when will they listen to the people they are supposed to represent and stop pursuing fossil fuels and plastic based economies? #stoppep11
01.01.2022 If the idea of an oil spill from the Great Australian Bight hitting the beaches in Sydney freaked you out, Advent Energy's PEP 11 proposal will do your head in.... PEP 11 (Petroleum Exploration Permit 11) is a 4,500 square km zone of the ocean from Manly to Newcastle that will be opened up for oil and gas exploration. Despite opposition from Newcastle, Central Coast and Northern Beaches local councils, the federal government continues to push this harmful and risky project on our community. At the moment dozens of whales are travelling through this zone daily on their traditional migratory paths north. PEP 11 has the potential to significantly impact this whale 'highway' and major environmental assets between Sydney and Newcastle. Stay tuned! See more
