25.01.2022 When was the last time you gave your pets mouth a check-up? Even minor dental disease can increase the risk of kidney, heart disease and other whole-body problems. Signs of dental disease include: bad breath, stained teeth, drooling, lack of grooming, facial swelling, difficulty eating and pain when touching the lips or face. If your pet hasnt been in for a mouth check-up lately, call us to make an appointment today.

25.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who entered our Hills t/d competition. Winners will be contacted tomorrow.

23.01.2022 Spring means slugs and snails in our gardens. Although it can be tempting to reach for snail bait as a quick remedy to unwelcome garden guests, snail bait contains metaldehyde or methiocarb, which, if ingested by your dog or cat, makes it deadly. As snail baits are formulated to attract snails with ingredients like molasses, many dogs can find the smell attractive too. Avoid using snail bait if you have pets and, if you suspect your pet has ingested snail bait, call us immediately.

23.01.2022 Medo showing us his best asset.

23.01.2022 Older cats and dogs can make the best pets but they also require a little additional care to keep them comfy, mobile and in good health throughout their twilight years. Six monthly check-ups are a great way for us to assess your pets condition and quality of life. There, we can discuss any tests, preventative treatments or ongoing management that might be needed to ensure your furry family member can stay happy and healthy. Book your pet in for a senior check-up with one of our friendly vets today.

23.01.2022 As spring begins to near, skin allergies will rear their unpleasant heads too. Allergy treatment in dogs has come a long way, and with such a range of new treatments available, relief is conveniently at hand. Allergies are best treated before a flare-up becomes severe, so if you start to notice your pup with red skin, pustules or increased scratching, make an appointment with us today. Prevention is always better than cure.

22.01.2022 The pleasure was all ours, meeting handsome Mack

22.01.2022 Congratulations to our recent puppy school graduates! Despite having to finishing up a week early youre well on your way to becoming well trained dogs. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 we have needed to temporarily cease running puppy school and appreciate your understanding and support during this time.

21.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why pets need anaesthesia for dentistry? There are several reasons. Firstly, we cant reason with your pet to tell them it will all be over shortly, so keeping them calm, still and awake while using ultrasonic scalers and polishers in their mouth would be terribly difficult. Secondly, general anaesthesia is preferred to sedation. Not only does it allow the airways to be kept clear and avoid aspiration but, most importantly, it keeps your pet stress-free and pain-free.

19.01.2022 Dr Jarrett loved his custom made Dachshund face mask, inspired and provided by the Sausage Dog himself, Stanley for his checkup! Is there anyone else rocking custom face masks inspired by their pets?

19.01.2022 It can be tempting to feed your furry friend food leftovers but dogs can actually develop pancreatitis if they eat a rich or fatty meal, such as fat gristle, bone marrow or other fatty foods. Pancreatitis involves inflammation of the pancreas, which is a gland in the abdomen involved in the digestion of food. Symptoms of pancreatitis can include vomiting, loss of appetite and a painful abdomen. It can also be fatal in its severe forms if left untreated. If your pet is showing any of these signs, have them checked by one of our friendly vets as soon as possible.

18.01.2022 Spring has sprung and as some of you are aware it's breeding season for most wildlife. Check out this chart from Wildlife Victoria in regards to baby birds if you are unsure if it is in trouble or not.

16.01.2022 Everyone loves a new puppy, so making sure your pup is well-trained and socialised will help them grow up to be the best dog they can be! 16.01.2022 Urine spraying can mean a number of things, such as stress and anxiety, territory-marking or a variety of medical conditions, including renal failure and urinary tract infections. If your cat is urine spraying, bring them in for a check-up. We can perform a full physical examination, discuss any further tests that may be required and explain the treatment options available to help manage your feline friends sprays.

16.01.2022 Dental Month has come to an end however due to Covid-19 many of you have been unaware of the competition we have been holding in clinic. To give everyone a fair chance we have decided to extend this competition for a further week online. For your chance to win a 3kg feline or 2.25kg canine bag of Hills t/d simply guess the number of kibble in the jar. Two winners will be chosen. Guesses can only be made by current clients of the clinic. Happy guessing!

We can vaccinate against many forms of canine cough, so its important to protect your pet with regular vaccinations. Speak to our friendly team for more information on what vaccinations are best for your pet.

13.01.2022 If you notice your dog shaking their head, scratching their ears or giving off a bad odour from their ears, they might be suffering from an ear condition. Infections, allergies, parasites and foreign bodies can all cause ear irritation in pets, so its important to have your pet examined to determine what treatment may be needed. Give us a call today to keep your pet comfortable and their ears healthy.

13.01.2022 To keep our cats and dogs healthy, their diet ideally requires a balance of wet and dry pet food, to ensure they receive all of the essential vitamins and minerals that our pets need. Just by chewing and crunching their biscuits, our pets are keeping their teeth clean and reducing their plaque build-up. For tips on occasional treats beneficial to healthy teeth, speak with us today.

13.01.2022 Love them or leave them, magpies are an iconic Australian bird. When nesting, magpies swoop their perceived threats to protect their young. Smart enough to distinguish friend from foe, magpies may even extend their trust to you by taking some feed. Although its not recommended to feed wildlife, if you do, find a natural source like mealworms from a pet store, as mince and other human foods are not balanced enough for our feathered friends and can actually lead to their suffering and death if fed to them.

12.01.2022 Handsome Romeo was in recently for his puppy heath check. During his check, Dr Nina noticed he had an extra tooth. This tooth is a puppy canine that hasnt yet fallen out with the adult tooth erupting. We often see these teeth become retained and require removal with their desexing procedure. If left unchecked, localised dental disease will develop. We will see Romeo back shortly to see if his tooth has made its own way out or not!

10.01.2022 What does it take to become a dog trainer? Surprisingly, there are actually no minimum education or experience requirements to become a dog trainer, but that doesnt mean there arent standards of excellence in the dog training world. Look out for trainers who practice force-free or fear-free training, particularly if they have qualifications from a recognised training or behaviour program.

10.01.2022 The thyroid hormone plays an important role in your cats metabolism. If there is an excess of thyroid hormone production, a condition called hyperthyroidism can cause cats to lose weight, despite them still being hungry. This may also result in your cat developing a poor-quality coat. Hyperthyroidism is particularly common in senior cats, so regular vet check-ups are especially important for them. Luckily, treatment is available to manage the disorder. If youre concerned your cat may have hyperthyroidism, bring them in for a check-up with us.

09.01.2022 Pets are part of the family and, as they age, its not just the greying hairs and loss of hearing that we need to be wary of. Senior pets can suffer from a variety of health conditions, including arthritis, obesity and heart failure. A quality diet, regular exercise and twice-yearly vet health checks will help keep your older pet happy and comfortable in their twilight years.

08.01.2022 As female dogs get older, they can become incontinent, giving them weak control of their lower urinary tract muscles. If your furry friend is incontinent, you might notice wet bedding, see them dribbling urine or excessively licking their genitals. Vet check-ups can be very worthwhile to examine your pet and discuss the management options available.

08.01.2022 Dental month may be coming to an end however the fight against dental disease isn't. Our team at Vets in Endeavour Hills strive for the best in preventative care and so we offer free dental checks all year round. Call the clinic today to book in your free dental check and your pet will receive a free gift from us (while stocks last).

05.01.2022 Just like cats and dogs, rabbits also need to have regular vaccinations to protect them from the potentially-fatal rabbit calicivirus disease. Calicivirus causes internal bleeding but luckily vaccinating is a simple way to keep your bunny protected. After their initial vaccinations rabbits need a booster vaccination every 6 months to keep them protected.

05.01.2022 Canine dementia, or cognitive dysfunction, can occur in older dogs, and a similar condition can affect older cats. Signs of dementia in pets include behavioural changes, such as disturbed sleeping patterns, disorientation, pacing, barking for no reason, staring at walls, and inappropriate toileting. Regular activity, a quality diet, and sometimes medications can be useful in managing dementia. If you have any concerns about your senior friend, come in for a check-up with us.

04.01.2022 Although the arrival of spring hopefully also means the arrival of warmer weather, pets with arthritis will still require management into the warmer months and beyond. Arthritis in pets is a chronic condition requiring ongoing year-round treatment to help keep them comfortable and as active as possible. Book a check up for your senior pet with one of our vets today to keep them playful and pain free.

02.01.2022 Have you noticed your cat displaying slightly more aggressive behaviour towards you, your family or other pets? Status-induced aggression might be one reason. This means your cat is trying to establish social dominance within their household. Behaviours may include sudden Jekyll/Hyde unprovoked aggression and the blocking of resources and doorways. If your feline is guilty of this please contact the clinic for some information on how to establish peace in your household.
