02.01.2022 Thinking about trying the Allen Carr method? There's a lot to like about it. We particularly like how it gets you to focus on the reasons you smoke. This helps you decide if you really want to quit - which is a major obstacle for most people. Deciding you DO want to quit (and accepting the loss of the aspects of smoking you like) is a huge step forward. His method also ultimately boils down to a simple idea: Decide to quit, then Rejoice in it. Simple is good.... However, on the downside, there's dozens of Do's and Don'ts within it, and if it doesn't work for you, you may be be blamed of 'not doing it right.' It also doesn't address the underlying problem at the root of the addiction, which causes the internal struggle between the parts of you that DO want to quit and the parts of you that DON'T. They've reported extremely good results, but there's also studies which show that it is effective, but not as effective as claimed. A recent single-blind, randomized controlled trial (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/add.14897) has disappointingly shown it to only be effective for 19.4% of people.
