25.01.2022 In #2019 I was fortunate enough to visit a #beautifultownship called #Stavanger in #Norway Wandering the #streets I came across this #book and many times in my #life whether it be through #nursing or in my role as an #endoflifedoula or as a #daughter to my #ageing #parents or as a #friend who has lost some dear friends - I have experienced moments and had conversations about what is a #gooddeath For me a good death would be in my #sleep but the chances of that are pretty slim so where possible I hope it were quick (not lingering); that it was not unexpected (so my family and friends dont have that to compound their grief) and that it were #peaceful (knowing I was loved) ... oh, and in surrounded by #sunshine or #warmth Whats a good death look like for you?

24.01.2022 Part 1 Aynsley from Amergin (an innovative aged and disability consultancy business) interviewed me as part of their promotion for #d2kd (Dying to Know Day) to discuss the important role of an #endoflifedoula and the importance of #advancecareplanning and having #endoflife discussions

23.01.2022 #itsthesimplethingsinlife that bring #peace #serenity and #calm into my life #homegrown #sunflowers bringing #sunshine into my #life

22.01.2022 #memories #legacies #love and #remembrance #benchseats - special #memorials Dont know these #people but love sharing #places that were #favourite places for others

22.01.2022 Why not come along to this Dying 2 Know Day event and hear myself and others speak on a range of end of life topics !

22.01.2022 Part 2 Amergin interview where I share more about the importance of talking about - and normalising - #death and #dying and how I facilitate #deathcafes within my role as an #endoflifedoula #deathliteracy #compassionatecommunities Well done on Aynsley from Amergin for engaging in this important space.

20.01.2022 In My Humble Opinion....beautifully said... and yes we need to reclaim the natural process of dying.... Dr Kathryn Mannix has spent her medical career working with people who have incurable, advanced illnesses. Starting in cancer care and changing career to become a pioneer of the new discipline of palliative medicine, she has worked in teams in hospices, hospitals and in patients own homes to deliver the best possible palliative care https://youtu.be/CruBRZh8quc

18.01.2022 It humbles me to meet such #amazing #people who entrust in me to co-craft the #funeral #ceremony for someone they #love who has #died It truly is an #honour Todays #ceremony paid honour to a #man who so many #loved and #respected My goes out to his wife and sons in particular. #COVID19 creates barriers but you cant stop the #humanspirit #resilience and love ... #HandonHeart ( on )

17.01.2022 #Kindness #Compassion #Caring and #Love ... the #world is spinning on its axis in pain at the moment but it is also surrounded by so much kindness ...

17.01.2022 I took this #photo during the #week but only realised afterwards how it captures so many differing #emotions for me.. #calmness #stillness #beauty #life #colours #tonicformysoul

17.01.2022 Saturday 8th August 2020 is Dying 2 Know Day - so what about joining me and some others who are passionate about, curious about, interested in talking about anything and everything about death and dying https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/virtual-death-cafe-brisbane

16.01.2022 I have just been contacted to participate in an event that is on Saturday 25th July 2020 called "Life in a Day 2020". It is going to be one of the largest user-generated films in history and a sequel to "Life in a Day" from 2010. The Producer, Jess Winteringham has emailed me advising that they will create a time-capsule of what life is like on a single day in 2020. The final documentary will be produced by Ridley Scott, and directed by Academy Award Winner Kevin Macdonald. I...t will premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and to a global audience on YouTube. Anyone can submit footage to the film and, if selected, they would receive a co-director credit on it. Jess specifically asked - as they are hoping to touch on every aspect of the human experience and loss is a very important element - if any of the End of Life Doulas in my network would be interested in being involved in the film? So I thought Id pass this on to you all. To find out more go to: https://lifeinaday.youtube/take-part/ See more

11.01.2022 Good on the Redland City Bulletin for promoting the local #DeathCafes in their newspaper this week. As part of creating a Death Positive community I facilitate every month a virtual Death Cafe via Zoom. To register go to Eventbrite and search Virtual - Brisbane and Bayside Death Cafe. And once the library meeting rooms are reopened I hope to resume the #Victoriapoint and #hollandpark face to face Death Cafes.

07.01.2022 Working in the end of life space continues to offer great opportunities for me to share information and experiences. Recently I was interviewed about the role of the End of Life Doula in supporting persons who wish to die at home; and how to help facilitate some of the more difficult discussions about dying and death. Want to read Home Instead Senior Cares June 2020 blog? Go to: Palliative care at home: How to plan for your loved ones wishes. An end of life doula shares how to talk to a loved one about their wishes, so you can help them plan to pass away at home https://homeinstead.com.au/ne/plan-palliative-care-at-home/
