21.01.2022 We adore the details in this painting by Anna Gore! Gore states, " The works I have included in Starburst respond directly to the exhibition's focus on mid-century form and design, and its collusion with the Scammells mid-century auction. This collection of paintings incorporates motifs, imagery and compositions that allude to late modern styles and conventions, especially those belonging within the field of painting. They continue an ongoing part of my practice, which engage...s emotional and unknowable content by using modes and methods that are associated with the practice of painting. Partially, this engagement includes using aspects of painting's history to provide or suggest connections to particular kinds of mysterious, multivalent and ever-shifting content. The work combines depictions of nature with abstracted and geometric shapes, merging different kinds of forms to create fantastic pictorial spaces and interactions." 17.01.2022 Today we are featuring the work of Alex Mullen! Mullen's work sits somewhere between the observed and the imagined. The combined use of observation, reference images, memory and invention generate scenes which feel distinctly familiar, yet are skewed by perspective and colour distortions. Narrative holds an important role throughout Mullen's practice, as he engages the viewer with both familiarity and ambiguity. The narratives unfold throughout the making process; drawing fro...m art history, research, environment, and experience. We love the references to mid-20th century culture in "Beat" which compliments the current mid-century auction lots exhibited in STARBURST! 17.01.2022 In the final week of endspace's inaugural exhibition - STARBURST - we will be showcasing work from each exhibiting artist. Today we are featuring "Hive" by Sam Gold, Gold is currently a ceramic associate at the JamFactory who works primarily as a sculptor with training as both a ceramicist and furniture maker. Gold produces ceramic installations that explore the body’s faculty for Poiesis in order to embed meaning and its capacity to reconcile with material to achieve cathars...is. This processed oriented work is held together by the indexical trace of gesture; the repetitious mark making which is embedded within the clay. Gold's body is a tool, the clay becomes a site to document time and experiential narratives of what we birth, rise and resolve within. Gold speaks of the ‘storiness’ of our lived materiality, by living amongst objects in our homes they become relics and artefacts we imbue with meaning, with loves and losses, with hopes and desperations. The conferring of emotion, tales of times lived into the material and investigating an essentially human and revealing act. "Hive" can be viewed in the endspace gallery until March 24.
