25.01.2022 Thinking of all our Victorian friends, family, star weavers, emergency services, health providers and community hubs. Take care of your mental health, stay informed, reach out for help when you need and wear your masks #inthistogether

24.01.2022 How did you go figuring out how to make an 8 coloured-strand star? Well done @bucketsofblue for working it out: Why not give it a try?... 1) select 8 colours and measure 25cm for each strand. 2) tape 2 strands together. Swipe to see image 2. Now, you should have 4 lengths. 3) watch the next post where I show how I've woven the 4 strands together. You will have a natural fold where the 2 colours join and are taped together. Fun!! #starweaver #inthistogether #endingviolenceiseveryonesbusiness

24.01.2022 Displayed across 4 levels, this star installation was a beauty! The @qldpolice wove 15,000 stars and displayed 10,00 in the Police Headquarters building in Brisbane, 2016. Led by super star weaver Deborah Loughran, QPS Executive members, Police Liaison officers, Police Citizen and youth clubs took part in weaving their stars. #onemillionstars... #starweaver #endingviolencetogether #throwback See more

23.01.2022 Thank you @happydiane! for sharing these beautiful pics "Wow! What a beautiful Art installation by @maryanntaliapau She started this project in 2012 as a personal response to a local tragedy. It's about bringing happiness, creating light, hope & peace in the world, & will mean different things to different people.... It's quite breathtaking close up, & creates this sense of calm. And you can't help but feel happy when you see all the colourful stars" - @happydiane This installation of one million woven stars was part of the @festival2018 in King George Square from March 29th - April 15th. 19.01.2022 The first star I ever wove was about 11 years ago. I can't recall where it is now because I've woven so many Mine is the silver one in the top right hand corner. I used a different technique that I worked out through trial and error, beginning with the fish weave Check out all the other weaves, sizes and materials I was trialling and still use today in my practise. There's even a little red paper crane gifted by someone many moons ago... 19.01.2022 3000 STARS SHINE A LIGHT "Portland residents have shown their support for Portland District Health and essential workers by helping to shine a light on their work and to ending violence. Early during lockdown periods in Victoria, Portland District Health asked community members to be Stay at Home Stars and weave stars from materials they had at home.... PDH community liaison officer Carolyn Malseed said the stars were made by many community members along with PDH staff and volunteers. In 2017 PDH joined the One Million Stars to End Violence Project and led Portland and the wider community to achieve status as a `star weave community’ by making more than 13,000 stars. All the stars this year were delivered using COVID-safe drop-off points." - @Carolyn Malseed AMAZING!!! #onemillionstarstoendviolence #starweaver #onemillionstars #endviolencetogether #community

16.01.2022 Perspective. I'm excited by some of the changes happening for the One Million Stars project, but I'm also anxious and nervous. Releasing an updated video this weekend, still the same technique just in a fresh, current light, is a small start to this change.... I also updated the website to have a clearer call to action, another "small" shift moving forward. Check it out if you haven't seen it already! Link in the bio. 15.01.2022 Earlier this year, I worked with Rana El-Mekarry, Manager at the Multicultural Women's Office & @multicultural_families office in Southport, Queensland, where the traditional owners are the Yugambeh people. We ran a star weaving workshop at the Gold Coast Mosque in March as part of their Chirstchurch Memorial service preparations. Due to COVID19, the service and star installation was cancelled for community safety, however the community solidarity and support continues. Than...k you Rana, for sharing some insight into star weaving in your community: What made you happiest about weaving stars with me / as part of the One Million Stars project? As we weaved stars with a group of like minded individuals with a shared vision for a better world that is free of all violence, I felt an overwhelming sense of hope and optimism and a strong belief that united we can actually make a huge difference. What was the reason you wanted to weave stars and create a star installation at the mosque? One of our guiding principles at MFO is that we, as a community need to collaborate and share our wisdom and resources to end all violence and live in cohesive community. Our message works in perfect resonance with the One Million Stars strong message that united we can end violence and increase community safety. 11.01.2022 Thank you Samantha @sammartinuzziart and Katherine Ellis @k_atellis for sharing these pics with us: "Dont the stars look great?!! I snapped them up when I saw them at Reverse Garbage and they are now proudly installed at St Josephs Nudgee College Art department- an elite private boys school and the perfect place to have discussions about the important message of that work .... a great conversation starter about a tough, but ubiquitous issue. That artwork will live ...on for many years to come. Samantha was Head of Art at Nudgee for 2018/2019 when she purchased the stars last year. These strands were installed by the current Head of Art Katherine Ellis, @k_atellis earlier this year. The school currently has an enrolment of 1600 boys. The mural artwork in the background was done in 2018 by Brad Eastman @bradeastman. Love this!! #starweaver #onemillionstars #stjosephsnudgeecollege #dimensionsartsfestival2020

06.01.2022 REST to RE-ENERGISE & REGROUP for impact. Working to end violence through collaboration and long term relationship building requires sustenance and rest. When we bring all our skills and stories together, often we find similarities and shared visions for peace, joy and dignity for everyone. When we work together, we can get more done and tap out when we need to for rejuvenation. Rest is not giving up - it's an opportunity to bring others in, activate new ideas and share the ...load. One story and one star can lead to another story and another star That's all it takes: gentle, inclusive, simple.
