11.01.2022 This case study on Pandemic Preparation and Mitigation from Bergamo, Italy was published in the NEJM. Learnings on how we can improve our hospital and health system response to the pandemic are vital: 1. Western health care systems have been built trying patient-centered care, but an epidemic requires a change toward community-centered care i.e. tailoring health information communication for the general public & understanding their home experience 2. Pandemic solutions are re...quired for the entire population, not only for hospitals. We need to think about implementing preparedness protocols across all health & care facilties e.g. nursing homes, etc 3. We need a long-term plan for the next pandemic.
