23.01.2022 The sad and heartbreaking images of Kuta Beach and Legian Street, Kuta, Bali, as it is today. For anyone who has attended one of our retreats here in Bali, you may recognize the empty spot on the beach where we would normally take you for your fun surfing afternoon. After 8 months of no work at all, and no sign of the possibility of tourists being able to return soon, will continue to have an ever deepening devastating impact on all the locals. ... As I often say in my posts, we are inundated with requests for help. The people and their stories inspire us to keep doing our best to help as much as we can, and rather than just keep appealing for cash donations, we are now implementing some of the fundraising ideas I had previously mentioned. Our first event, organized by Kerry and Tara is a Mega Garage Sale, (see the last Photo) which is being held in Perth, Sunday November 29th. So much more than your average garage sale: * Raffles * Money Board * Sausage Sizzle * Cool drinks, juice, water * Fundraising chocolates * Cake Stall (see below) We have had the idea to add a cake stall, and would greatly appreciate if anyone could donate any baked goods of any kind. We are also still seeking donations of items that can be sold at the sale and any donations at all of goods or services that can be added to the raffles we are organizing too. 18.01.2022 Here are some more images depicting the reality of the struggle here in Bali. The decline of the economy in Bali due to the ceasing of all tourism, has had a far deeper and widespread devastating impact than the immediate direct loss of jobs for hospitality staff in hotels, bars, cafes, spas etc. Entire family units are effected. The village farmers who supply fresh produce, taxi drivers, private drivers, all the other suppliers who would service the hotels and restauran...ts, the beach sellers, surfing teachers; and even the small local shops and supermarkets are effected as locals have no money to buy anything. The fall out is massive. Many people who leave their villages to work in town, do so to support their families who remain in the villages. As they have no work, they cannot support themselves, or their families. Also there are many Indonesians originating from other islands, who have come to Bali for work. Who not only can no longer send any financial assistance home, they themselves do not have the funds to return home, and are stranded here without support. One man who received a care pack from us recently, thanked me and told me, he hasn’t eaten for two days. I was moved, not only by his story, but mostly by his presence, and the heartfelt gracious way he received his sembako (carepack) The villages are struggling. Elderly people are now resorting to collecting plastic to recycle. And yesterday I heard a story of a 85 year old lady who lives alone in a village in the north of Bali, who had absolutely nothing left in her small home to eat, nothing, not one grain of rice. This breaks my heart to hear, and compels me to get her story and many others like this out there. Please consider a donation if you can, or simply share our posts or Gofundme link. 18.01.2022 Can you Help? Actually the truth is, can you help me? The fantastic Fundraising Garage Sale is this Sunday, November 29.... Typical of me, I have thrown a creative curve ball idea in at the last minute, and thought it would be a great idea to add a cake stall. Pretty sure the idea was inspired by a nostalgic trip down memory lane, thinking back to Netball fundraising in Albany. But........ the reality is, I don’t live in Australia, and I’m not there amongst the community to be able to implement this idea. 16.01.2022 Here are some of the families we have been able to help. On average we feed around 170 people per week. We are passionate about this cause, and our hearts feel compelled to help. We have managed with the help of all those who have donated to keep our project running weekly. However in this moment we only have enough funds to cover this week’s care packs. To be able to continue, we are in Urgent need of donations! Last week I shared some photos of the reality of... the hardships here in Bali, and whilst it generated a lot of interest and sympathy; it didn’t actually result in many donations. So for us we are digging deeper and thinking of other ways we can fundraise. My personal assistant and friend, Kerry has joined to collaborate with us, and is working on fundraising ideas. Tara will also be helping, and I’m sure the two of them will come up with some awesome ideas. I will also personally be fundraising. I have some ideas involving my work, and how I can use my gifts and donate my time. I will meditate and bring completion to the ideas, and update everyone soon. Thank you for listening.
