24.01.2022 9.25am: A huge overnight push by crews has restored power to more than 90% of customers affected by yesterday’s rolling storm fronts. This morning, we’re in the air over the Sunshine Coast hinterland and getting in to the hardest-to-reach areas on the ground to repair the last of the damage, so we can safely restore power to the final 2500 customers. We’re looking at all options to restring storm-hit sections of powerlines, including potentially using drones to carry lines ac...ross waterways. People still off supply are concentrated in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, especially around Witta, Conondale and Curramore, as well as Pacific Paradise north of the Maroochy River, and several communities in the Gympie Regional Council area. Crews are also hard at it fixing damage to main feeders around Woodford where more than 600 customers are awaiting restoration, as well as other Moreton Bay Council areas. Please stay safe, and bear with us we’ll have your power back on the minute it’s safe to do so. 24.01.2022 For people who had Customer Service Work booked before the weekend's storm emergency we have had to push it back a few days to reconnect the thousands of customers affected by the storms. Thanks for your understanding.

23.01.2022 COVID LOCKDOWN We’re postponing all non-critical work and ramping up COVID precautions in response to the greater Brisbane area’s 72-hour lockdown announced by Government this morning. While we’ll continue with critical field work and emergency response in affected areas, from 5pm today we’re postponing and rescheduling all planned field work while we review this evolving situation. Crews will also continue reenergising homes and businesses. These temporary cha...nges apply to the Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redland local government areas. Customers who would have been affected by planned outages between this evening and Thursday night will receive a notification in the mail when this work is rescheduled. Thanks everyone for your understanding and support while we play our part in safeguarding our communities. 22.01.2022 We're tackling storm damage that has cut power to 14,000 customers as soon as it’s safe to do so. SEQ has clocked more than 50,000 lightning strikes since 10am, and we’re deploying our troops to repair network damage as soon as we’re confident the storm cells have passed. At 3.30pm today, we had reports of more than 30 sections of wire down due to strong wind and debris. The most affected areas are in and around Caboolture, Bribie, Morayfield, Toorbul, Redcliffe and Woodford, as well as the Brisbane suburbs of Northgate, Nundah and Virginia. Please be vigilant for fallen powerlines, and treat any line as though it’s live report it ASAP to 13 19 62 or 000, stay clear, and warn others. 21.01.2022 STORM DAMAGE POWER UPDATE Springfield Lakes Our crews are making good inroads and the aim is still to have all homes that are not damaged or have been deemed safe by an electrical contractor up and running this evening. Our network is operational but with so many homes damaged we must isolate them from the network first to prevent electrocution and fire hazards. Crews continue this work today. ... Please be aware that some homes are so badly damaged that, for safety reasons, they cannot have power restored until structural and electrical damage has been rectified and signed off by a licensed electrician. We also have staff at the local YMCA if you want to talk to someone face-to-face. Also a reminder that solar panels are not an alternative source of power when the main electricity network is down or they are damaged. So please ensure if your solar panels are damaged that a licensed electrician switches them off at the meterbox and/or at the inverter until they are repaired. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS WORKING IN SPRINGFIELD LAKES When working on storm-affected premises in the Springfield area, please read the Form 3 carefully regarding the Electrical Contractor Actions. If the box is ticked to Re-energise where safe to do so, you are allowed to re-energise the premise and no phone call to Energex is required. If the premise is badly damaged, Energex is recommending that you install an RCD and a GPOs in the Main Switchboard and disconnect all internal circuitry. In this instance, you will be required to sign the bottom of the Form 3 and call Energex to reconnect the premises to the network. Sunshine and North Coasts While access issues and massive trees over the network have hampered our crews’ response, they are still aiming to get most properties back up and running by tonight. There will be some pockets of the worst-affected areas out a little longer, but crews will continue working around the clock to get these properties safely restored. Life support customers in all affected areas If you require powered medical equipment today it is highly recommended you enact your alternative plans such as, if required, visiting your local hospital or medical centre, visit a friend/family’s place who has power or call triple zero in an emergency.

21.01.2022 SUNSHINE COAST and NORTH COAST Our crews are continuing their hard work on the extensive storm damage on the Sunshine and North Coasts (such as shown in these photos). They are working around the clock and the majority will be restored by tomorrow morning but some of the worst affected pockets may not be restored until late tomorrow. Stay safe and thanks for your patience.

20.01.2022 Pop quiz: what do you do if you have a car accident and end up with powerlines on or under your vehicle? It’s a situation 250 Qlders found themselves in last year, and what you do next could save your life. The correct answer: STAY. CALL. WAIT. STAY in the vehicle, or at least 10m away if you’re a bystander it’s likely the car is live along with the ground around it. CALL 000. And WAIT for us and emergency services to arrive so we can get you out safely. This can mean ove...rcoming the instinct to try and exit a crashed vehicle or running to the rescue if any part of the car is in contact with electricity, this is incredibly dangerous. If someone tries to step out of a vehicle in contact with lines (including those little green pillar boxes) and the vehicle’s live, touching the ground it will close the circuit and the electricity will run through their body to the ground: severe injury or instant death. In the rare instance of a crashed vehicle catching fire, when exiting is your last resort, ensure you’re never in contact with the car and ground at the same time, jump away while being careful not to overbalance, and shuffle with both feet in contact with the ground at all times until you’re at least 10m away. Stay safe, everyone #takecarestaylineaware #staycallwait

19.01.2022 When our beaches and waters are clean, everyone wins. This is why we're big fans of the work of Ocean Crusaders, whose community clean-ups of the Moreton Bay islands earned them a share of our 2020 Community Fund. It's a cause close to the hearts of many of our own people, who regularly roll up their sleeves to clear debris and rubbish from the beautiful bay waters. Our local safety team - Simon Warburton, Martin Curtis, Jeff Foreman, Haydon Biglands and Brett Harrison - recently rounded up 30 tyres washed up at St Helena Island. Top work, Ocean Crusaders and volunteers - the local dugongs and green turtles thank you all #communityfund

12.01.2022 So, HERE’S why we don’t send crews out to work on restoration while there’s lightning around. Dashcam footage captured this bolt scoring a direct hit on a pole during Sunday’s wild storms around Toowoomba. It was one of 86,500 strikes within a 100km radius of the Garden City in a band of storms which caused significant network damage and outages on the inner Darling Downs. Big thanks to Wayne Finden for giving us the green light to share his incredible video check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/wfinden01/posts/10220158920176644?__cft__[0]=AZXJKAWDX8-mawoKDX1jHRqNiXwtnrPDQJsIELumGyoGlzyiuQQQyWMH51YUoO-EexxjmAS27dJbRUzbIcn_XDy2v8KA-jCznKXVfacW3VlrsJaheNXORMC4OmoSm_fWZrL9m-bIV04otwXPL4PIp7OVCVGbkjEsEqasEM-5OBC-zQ&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R

10.01.2022 Someone has apparently tried to make their Christmas lights look better by accessing the inside of a nearby street light to disable it and left the cover off exposing live wires to kids in the street. It's potentially deadly and it's also illegal! Our crews were left wondering who even thinks this is ok. #thisiswhywecanthavenicethings Electrical Safety Office

10.01.2022 10.20pm: It’s going to be a long night for our crews working to repair storm damage so we can safely get the lights back on to more than 16,000 customers still without power. While we won’t be able to fix everyone’s supply tonight, we’ll have eyes in the sky from first light tomorrow, with helicopter patrols over the hardest-to-reach damage around the Sunshine Coast. The multiple waves of storms have made things particularly tricky it’s not safe to have our people in the f...ield when there’s lightning around, and we’ve now seen 240,000 strikes in SEQ in the past 12 hours. Check out the map below, showing the situation at 10pm: white Xs represent lightning strikes currently hitting the ground, red Xs mean within the past 30mins, and blue Xs within 60mins (squares are ‘cloud-to-cloud’ lightning). Remember, safety must be the #1 priority there are still 50 sections of wires down, and people need to be particularly careful heading out in the morning: report any fallen powerlines to 13 19 62 or 000, keep your distance, and warn others. Thanks everyone for your patience and kind words for our teams as they work to get the lights back on, and please stay safe Outage Finder: https://bit.ly/36R52st #takecarestaylineaware ABC Brisbane ABC Sunshine Coast Sunshine Coast Council Sunshine Coast Daily Moreton Bay Regional Council News Talk 4BC 1116

09.01.2022 We’re working through the night to tackle what looks to be significant damage to underground cables, cutting power to 3380 customers in Milton, Paddington, Petrie Terrace, Spring Hill and the Roma St end of the CBD. Damage assessments are underway; however, people who are currently affected should be prepared to be without power overnight. We’re doing all we can to scope and fix this, but because it involves underground infrastructure, fault-finding, damage assessment and repairs are difficult. We’ll update everyone as soon as we know more early in the morning we know it’s not easy being without power, but please bear with us.

09.01.2022 The person responsible for this pole-dancing Santa probably thought it was a great joke, but in reality they were putting themselves and others at risk, it’s dangerous and illegal to interfere with the electricity network, and the crews and bucket truck sent to remove it are also required to respond to emergency outages. There are plenty of other places to put Christmas decorations please steer clear of power poles, padmount substations and pillar boxes, which are there to supply you with power. 09.01.2022 We’re keeping a close eye on the weather, with a storm or two potentially on the cards later this afternoon. 09.01.2022 Easter DIY around the house? Top idea! But DIY electrical? A deadly no-no. Any electrical work, no matter how apparently minor, is strictly a job for the professionals. Attempting home electrical work is dangerous, illegal and has cost Aussies their lives. It's also vital to be aware of hidden electrical risks when doing other apparently straightforward DIY jobs around the house. Always check for concealed electrical cables before drilling into walls, floors and ceilings... and take special care careful when drilling in the vicinity of points and light switches. If you ever feel a tingle or shock from an appliance or taps, call us ASAP 24/7 on 13 19 62. Let’s all make this Easter as safe as possible: for more on staying electrically safe at your place, check out https://www.energex.com.au/home/safety/safety-at-home Electrical Safety Office

07.01.2022 We’re on the ground and in the air at Springfield to help ensure we get power back on as soon as possible after last night’s storm. While a chopper is doing aerial surveillance to ascertain damage, our people are on the ground at the YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre providing restoration information and a handy spot to charge mobile phones. 07.01.2022 SPRINGFIELD LAKES AND SURROUNDS UPDATE: Crews have continued working hard around the clock, going door to door (and in a chopper in the air) but the extent of the storm damage to homes in the area is far worse than anticipated. We expect nearly 90% of homes cannot be reconnected until their damage is repaired. Our network is back up and running, but we cannot restore power to all properties (including the few that are not damaged) until each damaged home is disconnected from ...the network. Prematurely restoring supply to homes could create serious and potentially life-threatening electrical and fire hazards. This means our crews and contractors will continue going door to door this evening and from first light tomorrow, however power will not be restored to everyone tonight. We completely understand the frustration this has caused as a result of the damage from the supercell storm, and we thank you for your continued patience.

02.01.2022 #NAIDOC2020: A training program which provides energy industry skills is opening the door to trades futures for promising young First Nations students. We proudly partner with schools and communities to create career pathways, and a Central Queensland cohort are the latest to undertake our Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) pre-vocational training. This intensive week-long course equips students to compete for apprenticeships and traineeships; not just with Ergon and Energex,... but with employers across the country. While COVID put the brakes on these courses for much of the year, we were able to run a new ESI program in Rockhampton during the recent school holidays. Six outstanding students from Heights College, Rockhampton State High School, North Rockhampton State High School and St Brendan's College seized the chance to train in CPR, first aid, chainsaw use, safe work around electricity, and rescues from elevated work platforms. Check out the photos to meet our Rocky participants we’re hoping you’ll see some of them working on your local network in coming years As part of Australia’s largest electricity company, we have a huge obligation to our communities, and that means creating opportunities so that all young Qlders can consider a trade career with us. This is why we have an upcoming ESI program at Rocklea, with 2021 training at Murgon, Beaudesert and Townsville stay tuned We stand behind our First Nations communities, and we’re proud to be marking National Naidoc Week 2020: Always Was, Always Will Be. 01.01.2022 6pm: Bands of storms are continuing to hit SEQ, with more to come. The ongoing wild weather has made it unsafe and unviable to despatch crews in some areas, and until the storms abate, we can’t assess damage or advise accurate restoration times. Heavy rain also brings the potential for access issues, which means some customers are likely to be without power into tomorrow. Crews are working in areas where it’s safe to do so, and we’re bringing in teams from across SEQ to help... in the hardest-hit areas; however, we’re also keeping a close eye on another band of storms brewing on the Darling Downs that look to be packing a lot of lightning. At 5.40pm, nearly 23,000 customers were off supply, mostly around the central Sunshine Coast and hinterland, Caboolture, Morayfield, Bribie area and Woodford. SEQ’s been belted by 160,000 lightning strikes since 10am, and there are more than 60 sections of powerline down. Fallen lines can be deadly and also extremely hard to spot, especially in storm debris and in the dark look out, advise us ASAP on 13 19 62 or 000, and stay well clear.
