22.01.2022 AEMO say they have "done everything possible" to prevent blackouts in SA from last summer. - AEMO can deliver 800MW from gas generators if needed. - Plans to ask big energy users to cut their use when demand rises (by approx 200MW).... - Still WILL NOT Guarantee power for peak temperature days.

21.01.2022 Australias Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel and other Academics say: * Australia has a long way to go for adequate energy storage. * Battery storage is the most cost-effective way to secure energy.... * $11 billion on storage before 2030 will be required to secure energy supply * Under the National Energy Guarantee 28-36 per cent of power generation is projected to come from renewables by 2030. * Could have created an ADDITIONAL 6,000-20,000 new jobs.

21.01.2022 Power of Choice Substantial reforms to the National Electricity Market (NEM) are underway following recommendations to the state and federal governments by the AEMCs Power of Choice review giving consumers options in the way they use electricity. The AEMCs recommendations include measures to:... * Reform distribution network pricing principles * Expand competition in metering and related services * Give consumers better access to their electricity consumption data. * Establish a framework for open access and common communication standards * Introduce a new category of market participant for non-energy services in the National Electricity Rules * Reform the application of the current demand management and embedded generation connection incentive scheme * Establish a new demand response mechanism in the wholesale market For a full list see: http://www.aemc.gov.au/Major-Pages/Power-of-choice

20.01.2022 ACCC - GAS Inquiry 2017-2020 Interim Report The primary contributors to the east coasts tight gas supply/demand balance are threefold. 1) The State regulatory restrictions in NSW & VIC holding back new exploration and production.... 2) The Reduced gas production in Victoria. 3) The increased reliance on gas powered generation significantly attributed to the demise of ageing coal fired power stations. Here are 5 Key Points of the Inquiry. * If the current supply and demand forecasts are realised, there will be a supply shortfall in the East Coast Gas Market in 2018 of up to 55 petajoules (PJ) in the AEMOs expected domestic demand forecast and up to 108 PJ in AEMOs upper band domestic demand forecast. * With LNG projects holding about 60 per cent of proved and probable (2P) 48 gas reserves in the East Coast Gas Market, the LNG projects are in the best position to increase gas production to reduce the likelihood of a supply shortfall. * LNG projects also currently expect to sell up to 63.4 PJ of gas on the international LNG spot markets in 2018 in addition to meeting their long-term contractual export commitments. * Decisions made by LNG projects are likely to be particularly important for gas buyers in Southern States. Production in off-shore Victoria is forecast to be 116 PJ short of the projected domestic demand in the Southern States. * With the bulk of Cooper Basin gas contractually committed to be delivered to the LNG projects in Queensland, domestic gas buyers in the Southern States will need to rely on contracting with the LNG projects to meet their gas needs.
