25.01.2022 Great news that from today restrictions have been lifted further and classes can go back to normal! Our COVID plan is in place and we are ready to go, so good to finally get to this place after a hectic few months. Thanks to all the EFers for hanging in there with us and supporting us whilst we managed through all of this. We know it tested you sometimes as much as us.... 2020 is looking better already!

13.01.2022 Great results for or 6ft Track Marathon guys yesterday on a hot and humid day. Our 3 girls were all first timers and had a great day. Anna Pillinger ran a cracking 4:32 and placed 5th female after having a rough couple of weeks with illness. Superb run.... Gillian Scandurra did brilliantly by running 5:23 placing 32nd out of 200 female runners. A well executed race leading into her first 100km at UTA. Faye Lehane has struggled through injury to run an impressive 6:17 on limited training, definitely more in this girl. Troy Burn ran 6:32 for his 4th edition of the race, I hear he ran with a friend. Great results guys, very proud of you! Hope the legs have pulled up ok.

11.01.2022 Ever thought of running for your country? Want to do something epic in this COVID year that you will remember forever?? After having to cancel most of the championship races this year, the IAU (International Association of Ultrarunning) has planned a virtual "IAU 6 Hour Global Solidarity Run to engender athletic interest and friendly global fun. This is a call for interest in being part of the event. ... AURA (Australian Ultra Runners Association) has spots for 9 male and 9 female athletes which are open to all AURA members, (must be an AURA member so no better time to join and start getting member benefits!) No Qualifier Needed. If we exceed those numbers a random draw will be made to select athletes. How it would work: AURA will nominate up to 9 male and 9 female athletes to take part in a virtual 6 Hour race which could be run on either Aug 29th or Aug 30th. Athletes could run indoors or outdoors but would need to record their performances on one of the many sports platforms like Strava or Garmin. AURA will profile the athletes in the lead up to the event. We will cover the event on social media to share your progress and achievements. There are many ways to approach this event and you can put your own spin on it. You could run it with your local group, have a target distance, go for max elevation, or even run it in your own backyard. If you want to raise money for a charity we can help you spread the word. The various ways to personalise your run will make it an interesting and worthwhile event. Email your interest to me at [email protected] by Tuesday 28th July. 09.01.2022 Improved Mental Health and Fitness. We are always told they go hand in hand right? Stay fit, exercise regularly and its PROVEN that you will see improvements that are not just physical, but more importantly mental - especially in 2020 when many of us are struggling with the increased stresses and consequences of COVID.... So why is it so hard for some people to latch onto this well researched concept to help them improve their mental heath and live a happier and healthier life? Why do some people still struggle to get out of bed and get moving? Obviously its not all that simple, but what if we looked at Fitness in a different light? What if we didn't exercise to stay fit or thin, we exercised to stay happy? And if we didn't, we would start each day feeling low and unmotivated? This article looks at this concept, reversing the normal reasons most of us exercise (to look better, get fitter, lose weight, feel better in our clothes etc) because sometimes this isn't enough motivation for some people, especially those suffering from a mental health disorder such as anxiety or depression. It recommends we choose to exercise to improve our mental health FIRST, not worry about our looks or fitness. (Fitness Hack: Obviously we will naturally get the other physical benefits anyway, but we haven't focused on them so the pressure is off. We are here to be happy, not buff ;) ) Instead of trying to exercise to fit into your bikini this Summer, why not get out of bed tomorrow to relieve your STRESS. Forget your biceps, think of how much better you'll sleep tomorrow night, which will benefit your mental health and well being during the day. Imagine saying to yourself "tomorrow I'm getting up early to train because I will walk away feeling happier and less stressed, which will mean I go home a more content person to my family, be a more relaxed and productive team member at work, and have less anxiety about the things I can't control". 01.01.2022 Today we kicked of our new Beginner/Intermediate Run Club session which was a hit! Great work to everyone that cam along. It complements our other run sessions and gives more options for our runners. Some days you may not be up to a hard session but still want to get out there! The differences between the Run Sessions are:... * Express Run Club - 45min of specific work such as intervals, hill reps, sprints, stairs or threshold training. A short but tough session. Distance roughly 5-8km * Energy Run Club - 90mins - The long slog. For the more advanced runners as it involves a longer run of around 13-17km, more intervals, speed work, tempos, hills and stairs (depending on what events they have coming up). A solid session. * Beginners/Intermediate Run Club - An easy paced 60min session, where you can build up your endurance by running with the odd walk break as needed. Go at your own pace, faster runners can loop slower runners but its basically an easy run, no intervals, no hill reps etc. Suitable for anyone. Distance roughly 7-10km * All runs will be a mix of road and trail over the weeks to mix it up. For now our Twilight Trail Run will be put on hold until it gets lighter but it will be back! Don't forget our EFS2S Virtual race will be held on Friday 7th August! Come and join us for 11km or 5km and support our local event and the Wanda SLSC.
