16.01.2022 Tomatoes: This is how I prune my tomatoes: (Indeterminate varieties) Lets put the energy of the plant where we want it! !... Especially for urban farming/ small space gardening. U can also plant the suckers after cutting. Remove all lower leaves from about 30cm up from soil, to increase airflow and u dont want leaves touching the ground (to avoid mildew/ mould/ blight/ fungus/ disease etc (caused by excess moisture). U want to keep the actual tomato plants dry, wherever possible, and water deep at the root. I water these guys when they tell me which is about 2/3 times a week, but always depending on weather and plant signs. Hot days everyone is thirty, sure, so open bar. I like to leave a bit of leaf around the fruit also where I can. (hot here in Brisbane)! In summer. I feed with compost, epson salt spray (and a handful in planting hole, when planting), and most recently dolomite lime. Sometimes a seasol spray also, but we do need to be careful not to over feed too. I do believe with a lot of plants: treat em mean, with love. . I water morning and avoid afternoon/ evening watering when I can. Enjoy your pruning when u do and talk to your plants. Seriously! See how theyre doing. Ask them if theyre happy and be proud of them & tell them your proud of them. Seriously. A meditation at least. Which once every now n agin perhaps would be fine, but I do NOT mix soil in a barrow once every now and again! Soil mix I use atm for raised bed mix / today/ top 200/300mm (below plantation tree mulch fines) on installs or whatever organic matter about the farm... Soil mix: At the farm Whatevers about No specific measurements/ barrow Less of the strong stuff, more of the bulk.
