22.01.2022 The Australian Government is supporting small businesses to retain their apprentices and trainees. Eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of 50 per cent of the apprentices or trainees wage for 9 months from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020. Employers can register for the subsidy from 2 April 2020. Final claims for payment must be lodged by 31 December 2020. The subsidy will be available to small businesses employing fewer than 20 employees who retain an apprenti...ce or trainee.The apprentice or trainee must have been in-training with a small business as at 1 March 2020. Employers will be able to access the subsidy after an eligibility assessment is undertaken by an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider. Extra precautions are in place for Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) workers. In camps it is expected that everyone follows these recommendations/rules: Infection control in kitchens and food preparation areas; Suitable accommodation for self-quarantine;... Maintain social distancing in camps, including recreational activities, including outdoor sport; Limiting movement of workers from camps and into the broader community; No more hot bedding to limit contact between employees; Cleaning each room thoroughly between uses, including changing and washing linen. 17.01.2022 Based in Blackwater and Emerald, Energy Skills Queenslands current Drilling Career Start CQ project demonstrates an agile response to the current crisis, allowing the continuation of programs through flexible training delivery. ESQ has liaised closely with training partner, Inclusive Skills Academy as the crisis unfolded, implementing numerous measures to protect the health of participants, staff and the wider community. It has been about ensuring social distance and eli...minating potential sources of cross contamination. Thanks to these efforts, the project was able to commence in late March as scheduled, albeit with fewer participants to meet new restrictions on the size and duration of indoor and outdoor gatherings. ESQ continues to monitor this unfolding situation in partnership with the RTO and all project stakeholders, ensuring that any additional requirements from the relevant authorities are implemented as they emerge! 13.01.2022 Following the deaths of eight miners at QLD coal mines in the past two years, Queensland government passed a legislation introducing a new industrial manslaughter offence. The significant change with this legislation is that, resource company executives and senior officers face a maximum of 20 years in jail for negligence in workers deaths while carrying out work at mines. The companies could receive fines of up to A$13.3 million for each death. It is timely to discuss some important research findings and recommendations by Dr Sean Brady to understand the risks associated with operating mine sites and how each one of us in the industry, can support build a safe workplace.
