25.01.2022 If we can’t go on an excursion then the excursion will come to us!! Due to covid-19 restrictions we are unable to go on adventures into our local community. Megan created a Woolworths recycling area in the preschool yard so that the Bilby children could put their scrunchy plastic into. She firstly spoke to us about the importance of putting rubbish into the bin and how the materials are reused for everyday items. She also showed us some photos of what happens if animals find rubbish in the environment. After we recycled our plastic we were all presented The Engadine Preschool Environmental Superhero award!!

25.01.2022 The Bilby classroom is creating their own space themed learning area. One activity that is underway is designing a rocket ship out of egg cartons. As you can image, a egg carton rocket ship requires ALOT of egg cartons. Please start collecting them for us. Ask your neighbors, ask your grandparents!! We need them all!!

23.01.2022 We need to look after our planet Earth and this is one way we can all participate in its protection for our children’s future.

22.01.2022 https://drive.google.com//1dWrtUKG81mnM88qAh8eh_5MjT/view This great video was sent to us by Greenheros. It shows how some children and adults in our communities can be wildlife hero's for our native flora and fauna. These are the people that are looking after Mark our sponsored Koala.

20.01.2022 Being able to balance is an important skill that the children were able to practice today using the elevated balance beam.

20.01.2022 Term 3 starts tomorrow. See you all there. We are so looking forward to seeing everyone again.

16.01.2022 A woodwork area has been set up in the Gumnut’s room with real tools. Using real tools in the preschool classroom sends the message that the children are capable constructors and engineers. It also gives them the opportunity to critically think and create, as well as developing hand eye coordination and motor skills.

14.01.2022 Construction was the focus in the Gumnut Room today. Indoors, a construction site with trucks, diggers, roads, Hi-viz vests, hard hats and road signs saw both boys and girls entering the play, taking on a variety of roles. On the verandah area box construction was provided where the children were able to use their creativity to make a variety of wonderful 3-D structures. Both these experiences teach co-operation, strengthen problem-solving skills, help with creative thinking and enhance motor skills.

13.01.2022 Today the children in the Gumnut Room used stimulus pictures as inspiration to express their creativity with our beautiful new Grapat Mandala kit. These loose parts encourage activities such as colour sorting, pattern matching and extension, mandala building, scene creation and calm down/self-regulation play, to name just a few. Thank you to the David family for this wonderful addition to our classroom resources.

12.01.2022 Today we welcome this announcement to support families through the COVID-19 pandemic. A newsletter will come out shortly after details are announced and the management committee has met. This is indeed wonderful news for NSW families.

11.01.2022 During the holidays the preschool adopted Mark, a koala joey , from the Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust. Mark was rescued by Bear,a hero rescue dog, after the devastating bushfires which destroyed the Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust. The children have received a letter from Mark explaining what happened to him and how adopting him will support the wildlife carers in their commitment to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned marsupial joeys. The children are being encouraged to do some drawings which we will forward to Two Thumbs with a letter. We will also research Koalas and and other marsupials and their habitats and how we can help protect these areas. We look forward to following Mark’s progress and documenting and sharing with you what we have learnt.

09.01.2022 Every child is an artist - Pablo Picasso. The Sutherland Shire Preschool Alliance has today opened their exhibition at Hazelhurst Art Gallery. I am so proud to have my preschool be part of this and of how this exhibition has come together so beautifully. It’s a celebration of children’s art and creativity. There’s lots of variety in inspirational form and mediums from portraits, painted murals, sculpture, puppetry, wall hanging, indigenous art, photography, still art, and collage. Please go and see how creative our little ones are. Today many children were having their photos proudly taken in front of their artworks. It made my heart melt seeing their whole families excitement. A proud day for this early childhood director as well as the little artists themselves.

06.01.2022 With the use of stimulus pictures the Gumnuts constructed the Colosseum from blocks. The children worked cooperatively, referring to the photo to determine the placement of each block. Problem solving skills were used to ensure the structure was stable and curved. These are our future engineers, builders and architects in the making.

05.01.2022 This is a wonderful article to read for all parents. The article was written by Katie Moore who was bought up in Engadine who now has two children of her own. Katie's mother was on our parent committee many years ago. A love of reading is one of the best gifts you can give your child.

04.01.2022 This week we have a critter enclosure from ‘Rangers on the Run’. The large, netted canopy enclosure houses insects such as phasmids, spiny leaf insects, crickets, praying mantis and caterpillars, some of which have already changed into chrysalis. The enclosure will be at preschool all week so that the children have an opportunity to see and experience critters firsthand.

04.01.2022 For the next two weeks the preschool will be hosting some children and staff from Jannali Preschool while their centre is being renovated. Today the Gumnuts welcomed Ted and Jack and their teachers. The boys were very active participants in the block play where they worked cooperatively with their new Gumnut friends, constructing this incredible building.

03.01.2022 As part of Science Week we have started discussing lifecycles. We watched excitingly as our first duckling hatched this morning. He has been resting after all the hard work pecking his way out of the egg. We look forward to seeing the other 9 eggs hatch over the next few days. The ducklings will stay with us until 28th August.

02.01.2022 After spinning their cocoons, the silkworms in the Gumnut room are starting to emerge, mate and lay more eggs, completing their lifecycle. The children continued to document this by drawing pictures and dictating what they had observed.

02.01.2022 We have started our enrolment process for 2022.
