22.01.2022 Community Information Update: Maryborough City Hall floor works to be extended Initial work on the Maryborough City Hall auditorium floor has revealed the subfl...oor will require an extensive amount of work before the old floorboards can be replaced with new timber. Fraser Coast Regional Council Organisational Services Director Keith Parsons said this was not unexpected for a 110-year-old building. Unfortunately, the additional work means the auditorium will remain unavailable for hire for several months longer than previously expected, Mr Parsons said. Bookings in the auditorium have been cleared through to December. Council thanks the community groups involved for their cooperation and patience during this process. The auditorium was to be closed to the public until July while the floor was being replaced with the assistance of a Works for Queensland grant from the State Government. Mr Parsons said that after the old floor was lifted, Engage Consulting Engineers found the floor framing did not meet the current requirements for design loads. Their report recommends a full replacement, including some earthworks to clear rubble and debris. These works would also establish better ground profiles to improve underfloor drainage, including the opportunity to pump water out in the event of future floods. Mr Parsons said Council was working with the Department of Environment and Science to find an affordable and practical solution that also retained the heritage value of the subfloor. We have also worked with local archaeological consultants, engineering experts and our contractors to assist with the process.
