25.01.2022 A big thank you to Minister Di Farmer for advocating for people in domestic violence situations. The essential reasons for leaving a home have been extended: , , : " ;... " See more

23.01.2022 Today is RU ok? Day. It can be easy to flash a smile when people offer their normal "how are you?"... some of us even feel like we might burden people if we tell people how we really are. It might take an extra minute, full attention, and willingness to respond, when we notice someone who might not be coping. ... If you ask if someone is okay... and they respond "no"... everyone of us has the capacity to respond supportively. We can: - offer to cook meals - offer to care for the kids - listen... - be attentive - encourage the person to seek help - call 000 if there is immediate danger - Lifeline is available 24 hours a day 13 11 14

22.01.2022 Happy New Year from the Engage Psychology team! As we consider the new year before us, it's a great time to think about areas we can improve on. One of the areas that many of us struggle with is managing stress levels. While acute stress can be healthy and help us to navigate life, chronic stress affects all areas of our life and our body. Buffers: The dictionary defines ‘buffer’ as: a thing that reduces a shock, to lessen or moderate the impact of something. Creating ‘buffer...s’ in our lives help us to manage unexpected events (e.g., financial buffers, time buffers, etc.). A few tips for managing stress this year: Set aside at least one day each week for leisure/rest time. Review finances and create a rainy-day fund. Regular massage. Saying no to extra tasks if you need to. Reduce caffeine intake during stressful times. Some teas contain L-theanine which can promote relaxation. Regular exercise. Changing the way we think about stress from thoughts of I can’t cope to thoughts of this feeling of stress is telling me something / helping me to achieve or change something We hope these strategies will be useful in managing stress levels during 2019, and finding a healthy balance for work, rest, family, and play. If stress continues to be an issue, contact your local GP for advice.

22.01.2022 Okay... so this short video explains the great benefits of exercise for our mental health... but it says that we are more likely to stick to exercise if we do it in the morning... so we took a poll of our Engage Team to see when we all work out Kasey in the afternoon, so she can clear her mind after a busy day Jane in the morning because it’s hard to switch off after exercising at night... Kylie during the day so she can fit it around her schedule Vinita at night so she can go and rest in bed afterwards Zoe about 9am (earlier in summer) after a bit of caffeine ;) So the moral of story as long as we’re doing it we’re improving our mental health. Find your "right time" to get moving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZBXldCxZEA

19.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the Engage Psychology team. We wish you a safe and happy time with your family and friends. If this is a difficult time, you can speak to someone at Lifeline 13 11 14. Our messages will also be checked regularly over the Christmas and new year break. Our team will be back on deck from 7th January.

18.01.2022 You know, it’s okay not to feel okay all of the time. The best way for someone to start to feel better when they are down, is to CONNECT with others, even thought they might prefer to AVOID reaching out. It can be easier for people to pretend that everything is okay, than to admit they are struggling. But a brief connection from a friend, a family member, the local barber, or a workmate, can be enough to get a conversation started asking are you okay? can be enough to save a life. Don’t be afraid to ask. If you need immediate help, talk to your GP or call Lifeline 13 11 14

13.01.2022 The Engage Psychology Team (minus Daniel!). We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of practitioners.

12.01.2022 We understand that many people are experiencing lots of emotions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those feelings is a loss of control. Research shows that when people experience a loss of control, we then experience an increase in stress. So whether it is a loss of control because of work circumstances, access to services, finances, or a general feeling towards the broader impact of COVID-19, our stress levels will likely increase. We have created this infographic b...ased on the Stress and Control theory (Lazarus), to begin sorting through our appraisals and thoughts, and reducing stress. We know from previous outbreaks and disasters, that the more we can manage stress now, that our mental health in the longer-term is better. As indicated in the infographic below, one of the best ways we can help ourselves to manage stress, is to limit the amount of media coverage we are exposed to. We also need to ensure that the media we are exposing ourselves to is the best quality information available. We can get this from Government sites, the ABC, and the World Health Organisation. Check in once or twice a day at most, and keep kids shielded from media coverage as much as possible. We hope this information helps to navigate this season. The Engage Psychology Team Note: Engage Psychology is continuing provision of services to clients via telehealth sessions. If you need immediate assistance with mental health concerns, please call Lifeline 13 11 14

11.01.2022 Engage Psychology is committed to the care of our clients and clinicians. What are we doing about COVID-19 and to prevent colds and flus in general? As per the requirements from the Department of Health, all team members who have been to China, Iran or the Republic of Korea are excluded from returning to work for 14 days from the date they left that country. This is also the case for team members who have been in contact with a confirmed case or who are having pre-cautionar...y testing (please note that at this time, we have NO team members in any of the above categories). Generally, any team member who is feeling unwell or showing signs or symptoms of being unwell, will remain at home. What can you do? We request you follow the guidelines and recommendations set by the Department of Health and self-exclude if you have been to any of the countries with exclusion periods or have been in contact with someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19. We also ask that you not attend the practice when you are unwell regardless of whether you think this may be COVID-19 or a cold or flu. Please make sure you are practicing excellent hygiene as hand washing and containment of bodily fluids continue to be the best defence against the spread of cold, flus and COVID-19. Appointments We can arrange for sessions to be held by telehealth if you are feeling unwell. For clients who have a mental health care plan, the government has provided a rebate for vulnerable people in the population. Additionally, all NDIS participants can access telehealth if they choose to. For all other clients, we can arrange telehealth via private fee. If you need to cancel your appointment for whatever reason, please provide at least 48 hours (or more) notice. We are committed to supporting our clients during this time.
