19.01.2022 Our team is currently completing Talking Mats training, held by one of our Speech Pathologists, Abby. Talking Mats is a social enterprise whose vision is to improve the lives of people with communication difficulties by increasing their capacity to communicate effectively about things that matter to them. This is an innovative and award-winning communication tool which is based on extensive research, and was designed by Speech and Language Therapists.

07.01.2022 Our feeding specialist Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and Dietitian have been busy this week completing the Advanced SOS Approach to Feeding Workshop "Feeding the Child on the Autism Spectrum". Approximately 80% of children on the Autism Spectrum have feeding challenges. Feeding is unique for a child on the Autism Spectrum due to their developmental, medical, sensory, motor, diet, and learning challenges. We are excited to be expanding the specialized feeding services at Engage Therapy, offering both individual and group programs. 07.01.2022 One of our Senior Occupational Therapists who specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders is completing the Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support (SCERTS) online training. SCERTS is an evidence based framework for working with young people with Autism. The training is suitable for all Allied Health Professionals and Teachers. If you are interested, part one is free. Learn at your own pace. The total cost is a very reasonable $200USD.

05.01.2022 This week is OT week!

04.01.2022 This January 2021, we will be running two ‘get ready for school’ programs completed by one of our Speech Pathologists, Isabelle, and Occupational Therapists, Louise. The programs include a School Readiness Kindergarten group for children stepping into kinder, and a School Readiness Prep group for preschoolers transitioning into prep. The School Readiness Kindergarten group will run from January 18th 21st. The School Readiness Prep group will run from January 25th & 27th ... 29th. Both groups are an excellent way to prepare your child for the schooling years. Sessions will target transitions, play/social skills, communication, listening to instructions, attention, narrative and craft work, fine and gross motor skills, following a schedule, and snack/meal times. Please contact reception if you are interested in your child attending one of these groups on (03) 6343 7852 or email [email protected]. New Engage Therapy clients will require an assessment for suitability prior to attending.

02.01.2022 In January, we will be offering education sessions for parents with children who have communication aids. Our Speech Pathologists will provide information about the total communication approach, how to best use a communication aid, and how to assist your child to communicate to their full potential. This is a great opportunity to practice using your child’s communication aid, interact with other parents, and learn about communication development. Available dates: ... Thursday 14th and Thursday 21st January 2021 at 2:00pm at Engage Therapy. This can be accessed via your child’s NDIS plan. Costs will vary depending on number of participants (for example, for five participants = $77.00 per head) Child minding will be available by one of Therapy Assistants if required. *Attendance only required at one session
