23.01.2022 YES YES and YES!!!! This quote from the amazing Valerie Gent just sums it up so beautifully. Over the last week I have had many little kiddos brave enough to explore with food and meal times -Setting the table for a family meal, choosing a recipe from the Coles magazine and asking mum to make it, sitting down for a family meal of roast beef and vegetables (not eating it but brave enough to pick up the food, touch it, squish it and smell it!! ) woohoo!!!

16.01.2022 Such great ideas to keep our kiddos active as well as working on gross motor skills. Also a great activity for problem-solving and extending on ideas from the child. I can only imagine what some kids will find around the house to balance on

15.01.2022 Excited to try some cool virtual backgrounds during my next zoom sessions.

10.01.2022 Devise a game plan....... With the current health crisis and uncertainty around how we proceed with our usual daily routine, it can be very difficult as parents to know how we support our children around these changes. As a Keyworker and Early Intervention professional, I have supported many children and families with game plans. So, what do I mean by a game plan? Well, game plans are usually referred to as social stories or visual timetables/schedules. What is a social ...story? A social story is a visual way to prepare your child for an upcoming situation or event that may be anxiety-provoking for them. This can be done through the use of pictures, photos, boardmaker images, words or even videos. It is important to first consider, what medium your child responds to the best pictures, photos of their own objects, videos or words. For many children, photos of their actual object, environment and family members make more sense to them and the child is more likely to respond to it as it represents their life. Every social story can look and sound different as each one is based around the individual child and the event that they need support with. If your child is finding it difficult to understand changes to schooling and staying at home, a social story may help. You can make one like the photo shown using photos of your child and their life or you can search for picture books online. If you would like a bespoke social story made but just don’t have the time to make it, email me at [email protected] and we can discuss your specific needs. See more

05.01.2022 Not a bad view to look at while writing reports for Plan review It has been a busy time over the last few weeks, writing reports and supporting families during their child's NDIS plan review meetings. This is just another part of my job that I LOVE! Supporting families as they go through the process of plan review. It can be a daunting process for some and even though I have every confidence that they can advocate for their child, sometimes, parents like that little extr...a support. It may be - just to be at the meeting as another person that knows their child, to offer examples of the areas of challenge their child may face, to clarify terms such as cognitive skills, fine and gross motor or emotional regulation, to be a reminder of points that we had discussed in sessions, but within the moment parents find difficult to recall, or it may even be to get yoghurt from the fridge to give to a hungry child while mum sits with the planner . I always walk away from these meetings in such awe of parents, of their strength and resilience and if I can be there in some small way as their cheer squad then I feel very privileged See more

04.01.2022 With the ever-changing developments around COVID 19 (Corona Virus), I have made the difficult decision to put on hold visits to homes, childcare centres and schools for at least the next two weeks. As always I will do my best to be flexible and think outside the box in regard to service delivery over the coming weeks and beyond. During this time, I will be available during usual business hours of 9am to 5pm to take your call or respond to your email so please feel free to ...contact me. Please take care and keep well, Megan

02.01.2022 Read this book with a little kiddo at his child care last week. So many opportunities for purposeful language and back and forth interaction. He would open the flap to reveal the animal and then look to me to label the animal. I labelled "monkey" and he imitated "key". Such lovely connection and engagement

02.01.2022 Stuck at home and want to do a fun activity with the kids? Squishy stress balls - helpful for everyone during this time. Stay tuned and I will post a video shortly on how to make these colourful sensory toys :-)
