25.01.2022 --- HOW to BUILD a GREAT LinkedIn PROFILE --- #English_for_Leaders #LinkedIn_tips 1. Write an informative profile headline. Your headline is a short, memorabl...e professional slogan. 2. Pick an appropriate photo. LinkedIn isnt Facebook. Your profile will be 7x more likely to be viewed with a high-quality photo of you alone, professionally dressed. 3. Show off your education. LinkedIn is an appropriate place to show off your schools, courses, GPA, and honors or awards. Dont be shy! 4. Develop a professional Summary. Be concise and confident about your qualifications and goals. 5. Fill Skills & Expertise with keywords. Find relevant keywords in job listings that appeal to you. 6. Update your status regularly. It helps you stay on your networks radar and build your professional image. Mention your projects, professional books or articles, or events youre attending. Many recruiters read your feed. 7. Show your connectedness. Joining some professional communities and industry groups. They will appear at the bottom of your profile. 8. Claim your unique LinkedIn URL. To increase the professional results that appear when people search for you online, set your LinkedIn profile to public and create a unique URL. 9. Share your work. You can also add actual examples of your writing or design work on your profile. What better way to sell your skills than to show people exactly what you can produce? 10. Collect diverse recommendations. The best profiles have at least one recommendation for each position a person has held. --- Visit us at https://www.englishforleaders.com.au/

24.01.2022 When Im reading I come across many new words. In todays The Australian for example, the word diaphanously was used to describe the word veiled and together mean simply thinly hidden or just enough to cover the truth but also not covered enough to completely hide it. Even as a native English speaker there are so many words Im unfamiliar with, so I write it down, add it to my list on vocabulary.com and play with it; find ways to use it naturally and interestingly. ... How do you digest and play sith new words?

18.01.2022 The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is the 3rd largest comedy festival in the world and I met Celeb 5 from South Korea. The show was awesome! They said "lets meet in Korea" but before I could meet them there I bumped into their horse and cart. They said their goal was to get on the Ellen show so I can be their English teacher...or member #5? ... 3 !! , 5 ?
17.01.2022 Out for my morning walk and coffee and I asked for half a raw sugar. The lady making it shouts out, "whatd he want? 4 sugars? Does it sound like that if you say it aloud? As a pronunciation aficionado it does to me. Now this was a conversation between two native English speakers, I can imagine what it would be like if English was your second language.... Always good to have a laugh with the people that make your coffee. Always good to laugh and smile. Its good for the spirit and it makes learning easier! What funny moments have you had with English?

06.01.2022 Practise, practise, practise. When the task at hand feels big, do something. Move, write, scribble. Anything, anything to keep you humming to the tune of your work. Im practising my lines here for a play Im in in a few months and using new/old/proven techniques is proving useful. "A thousand thousand years of hearts desire" goes one of my lines. And this play was formed from the lives lived over a thousand thousand years ago.... Lazarus and his Beloved is the play Im starring in. Cant wait to bring it alive. https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=509426&

02.01.2022 Today we looked at the most common sound in English, schwa. Which is basically a weak uh sound and especially in Australian English is at the back of words like brother [brah-thuh] and doctor [dok-tuh] and in the middle of words like investigated [in-ves-tuh-gay-ted]. Getting familiar with sound inside words and in function words like his, her, him and of makes your fluency and sounds so much smoother and easier on the ear. Youll also feel so much more confident too!
02.01.2022 There are certain times when you have to refuse a luxury gift or a lunch offer from your clients/colleagues in order not to violate the company policy or damage a business relationship. So, how do you refuse a gift or an offer of lunch/dinner politely? "Make your words simple and avoid drama" =) Here are some phrases for you. #businessEnglish #English_For_Leaders #communication
01.01.2022 How would you explain this chart? Its the assignment from last nights business class. Index charts are a powerful way of comparing different data of any magnitude. For example, you might want to compare the hange in the price of cheese, chocolate and gold. If you put them in a normal chart then what price do you use? $/ounce/kg/pound? We would use an index chart as we can simply track how the prices have changed over time relative to a particular starting point.... The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has a nice article on the topic https://www.dallasfed.org/research/basics/indexing.aspx
